Put an end to diversion of Srisailam dam waters immediately: DY CM Bhatti to AP
KHAMMAM: Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka has urged Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu to immediately stop diverting 11 tmcft of water per day through the Pothireddypadu lift system from the upper reaches of the Srisailam Dam. 'If 11 tmcft is diverted daily, farmers in Nalgonda and Khammam will suffer severe losses. The Srisailam project will be emptied in just 25 days. If there is genuine concern for tribals, the height of the Polavaram project should be reduced to save two lakh acres from submergence. The [Telangana] government will never agree to Banakacherla,' he asserted. Speaking at a massive public meeting in Vangaveedu of Madhira mandal, after laying the foundation stone for the Rs 600 crore Jawahar Lift Irrigation Scheme, Vikramarka said that while just 1 tmcft released daily through the left canal of Nagarjunasagar project irrigates lakhs of acres, diverting 11 tmcft through Pothireddypadu is 'a grave injustice to Telangana farmers'. He thanked Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and Irrigation Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy for fighting in the courts and at the Centre to halt Banakacherla and Srisailam lift operations. Recalling the UPA era, Vikramarka said he had appealed to former Congress president Sonia Gandhi to exclude seven tribal mandals in Bhadrachalam from Polavaram's submergence area, which was achieved through legal amendments.

Hyderabad: The Deputy Chief Minister, Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, said that the Chokka Rao Devadula Project holds the highest priority for the state government. During his visit to the project along with his cabinet colleagues N Uttam Kumar Reddy, Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy, Vaakiti Srihari, and Seethakka, as well as local MPs and MLAs, Bhatti said that from the very beginning of the Devadula Project until now, the Congress government has taken it up with the utmost prestige. 'It is said that a total of Rs 100 crore is pending, including land acquisition costs and other outstanding bills. We will release these funds in phases. Officials should immediately send the related details. Through this project, irrigation water is being supplied to 17 constituencies in the state,' he said. The Irrigation Minister, N Uttam Kumar Reddy, who accompanied him, said that the project is designed to irrigate 5.57 lakh acres across Hanamkonda, Warangal, Karimnagar, Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Mulugu, Jangaon, Yadadri, Suryapet, and Siddipet a total lift of 469 metres—from +71 m to +540 m—and the utilisation of 38.16 TMC over 170 pumping days annually, the project is being executed in three phases. It includes major pump houses, rising and delivery mains, balancing reservoirs, and an extensive canal network to deliver water to high-elevation command areas. Uttam said the revised project cost was Rs 18,500 crore, of which Rs 14,168.49 crore had been spent. An additional Rs 4,331.51 crore was urgently required to clear contractor dues, complete delivery main encasement works, and finalise pending land acquisition. Uttam pushes for fast-tracking Devadula project, calls Jawahar LIS a game changer
Hyderabad: Irrigation minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy on Sunday said the J Chokka Rao Devadula Lift Irrigation Scheme (JCRDLIS) would be a lifeline for upland, drought-prone regions of Telangana and directed officials to complete it at the earliest. Reviewing the project after visiting the Sammakka Sarakka barrage and the off-take point in Gangaram village, Kannaigudem mandal of Mulugu district, he said JCRDLIS is designed to irrigate 5.57 lakh acres across Hanamkonda, Warangal, Karimnagar, Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Mulugu, Jangaon, Yadadri, Suryapet, and Siddipet districts. With a total lift of 469 metres and utilisation of 38.16 TMC over 170 pumping days annually, the project is being executed in three phases. Tenders had been finalised and the project would be completed within a year to provide irrigation to 33,000 acres. Announcing ayacut statistics, Uttam said the scheme will serve three major segments — Nidhanapuram major (13,000 acres), Jamalapuram major (10,000 acres), and Mailavaram major (5,000 acres). Mandal-wise, 12 villages in Madhira mandal would receive water for 13,219 acres and 23 villages in Yerrupalem mandal for 19,800 acres — totalling 35 villages with 33,025 acres. Designed in line with the State's irrigation policy of delivering maximum water at minimal cost, Jawahar LIS, he said, would boost agricultural productivity and serve as a model project for other upland areas. Turning to broader water policy, Uttam reiterated Telangana's fight for its rightful 71 per cent share of Krishna river waters. He accused the previous BRS government of accepting only 34 per cent, calling it a grave injustice to the state. Stay updated with the latest local news from your city on Times of India (TOI). Stop Srisailam water diversion: Bhatti
Hyderabad: Deputy chief minister Bhatti Vikramarka on Sunday urged Andhra Pradesh CM N Chandrababu Naidu to immediately halt the diversion of 11 TMC of water per day through the Pothireddypadu lift irrigation system from the upper reaches of the Srisailam Dam. "Drawal of just 1 TMC of water per day via the left canal of Nagarjuna Sagar irrigates lakhs of acres. Diverting 11 TMC daily through Pothireddypadu causes severe injustice to farmers in the erstwhile Nalgonda and Khammam districts. This diversion would result in the Srisailam reservoir being emptied within just 25 days," Bhatti said, addressing a public meeting after laying the foundation stone for the Jawahar Lift Irrigation Scheme, being constructed at a cost of 600 crore—in Vangaveedu, Madhira assembly constituency, alongside ministers N Uttam Kumar Reddy, Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, and Vakiti Srihari. During the UPA govt's tenure, he had appealed to Sonia Gandhi to exclude the seven tribal mandals of the Bhadrachalam division from the Polavaram project's submergence area, which were indeed excluded through legal amendments. However, the subsequent BJP govt at the Centre and the BRS govt in the state issued an ordinance handing over two lakh acres of tribal land to the Polavaram project. "If AP CM genuinely cares about tribal welfare, he should reduce the height of Polavaram to safeguard these two lakh acres," Bhatti stated. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 20 Things Women Should NEVER Wear! Undo You Can Also Check: Hyderabad AQI | Weather in Hyderabad | Bank Holidays in Hyderabad | Public Holidays in Hyderabad He expressed his gratitude to CM Revanth and the irrigation minister for their efforts, both at the Centre and in the courts, to stop Banakacherla, and for taking a firm stand to halt lift operations at both Banakacherla and at Srisailam. He emphasised that only after Telangana's irrigation projects upstream of the Godavari are completed and the state's share of both net and flood waters is clearly determined, should the AP govt raise the issue of Banakacherla. Highlighting the significance of the Jawahar Lift Irrigation Scheme, Bhatti pointed out that, despite raising the issue in the assembly for ten years, the previous BRS govt neglected the project. "Farmers in the tail-end regions of Madhira constituency have long suffered, as the water flow path enters AP territory before returning to Telangana. After the Congress assumed power, the irrigation minister sanctioned 600 crore for the scheme, which will irrigate 30,000 acres. Madhira constituency has five mandals, each with a natural water source between every two mandals. Using these resources, two projects have already been constructed, and now work on the scheme has commenced." Stay updated with the latest local news from your city on Times of India (TOI).
