CM Sukhu flags off cycle run on World Environment Day, urges people to make Himachal plastic-free

Chief minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Thursday flagged off a cycle run from Oak Over, Shimla with the aim of eliminating plastic pollution on the occasion of World Environment Day. The event was jointly organized by the Department of Environment, Science, Technology & Climate Change and HP Council for Science, Technology & Environment (HIMCOSTE). He also launched the Plastic Neutral Himachal- 2030 awareness campaign and the Clean Shimla Drive. Students, volunteers, home guard Jawans and people from various sections of society participated in this initiative. On this occasion, the Chief Minister also administered a pledge to the gathering to make Himachal Pradesh plastic-neutral. Extending his greetings on World Environment Day, the Chief Minister emphasized that everyone must contribute towards making Himachal plastic-free. He stated that protecting the environment from plastic is a shared responsibility. Meanwhile, Sukhu on Thursday also distributed the Environment Leadership Awards to eight individuals and institutions for their outstanding contributions in the field of environmental conservation. HP govt to give 6 lakh stainless steel water bottles to school students The CM presided over the State-level World Environment Day function held at Peterhoff, Shimla. The event was jointly organized by the Department of Environment, Science & Technology and Climate Change, and the Himachal Pradesh Council for Science, Technology & Environment (HIMCOSTE). On the occasion, the Chief Minister announced the distribution of six lakh stainless steel water bottles to school students across the state as an initiative to wage war against plastic use. He emphasized that the state government is according top priority to environmental protection. Concrete measures were being taken to control plastic pollution. Regulations related to plastic use have been made quite stringent and consistent efforts were being made to increase public awareness. The State Government has set a target to make Himachal Pradesh a 'Green Energy State' by 31st March 2026, and several innovative initiatives were being implemented in this direction, he reiterated. New schemes were being rolled out to increase green cover in the state. Multiple steps were being taken to promote solar energy projects, green corridors, electric vehicles, and green energy. The State Government has also requested for 'Green Bonus' from the Central Government to strengthen the efforts being made to preserve green cover, he remarked. The Chief Minister also launched the 'Single-Use Plastic Challan Mobile App', which will allow officials to issue paperless and instant challan for illegal use of plastic. He also released pamphlets brought out by the Environment Department. Machines for making eco-friendly 'doona' (leaf bowl) and 'pattals '(leaf plates) were gifted to both Shakti and Ekta Self-Help Groups, and Kushala Sankul Sangathan. Additionally, an eco-shredder machine was also presented to the Eco Club of Rajya Kanya Maha Vidalaya (RKMV) Shimla.

DG CRPF visits Srinagar, takes stock of security and operational preparedness

Srinagar, May 27 ( UNI) Director General Central Reserve Police Force G P Singh visited Srinagar on Tuesday and reviewed the operational preparedness of the Force. The DG, who is on a three-day visit of the Valley, proceeded to 181 Bn, CRPF, Charar-e-Sharif in Budgam district shortly after landing in Srinagar. The DG, accompanied by Vitul Kumar, Special DG Operations , Rajesh Kumar, ADG J&K Zone, Vineet Brij Lal, IG, Pawan Kumar Sharma, IG, and Mitesh Jain, IG inspected 181 Battalion and deliberated upon the security scenario and Operational preparedness with the commanders on the ground. In addition to the review of the overall security scenario, the DG's visit also focused on the readiness and preparations of the Force in the upcoming Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra, beginning in the first week of July, a CRPF spokesman said. The DG then interacted with the Jawans in a Sainik Sammelan and addressed their grievances. In his address, the DG lauded the personnel for their steadfast commitment to duty and their service to the motherland. He also expressed his confidence that the Force will continue to serve the Nation with zeal and valour. Returning to Srinagar later that day, the DG interacted with Range DIGs and Commanding Officers of 47 Battalions deployed in the valley in a conference that lasted more than three hours. UNI MJR BD

In the ongoing fight against Maoists, Jharkhand police on Tuesday (May 27, 2025) gunned down Maoist commander Tulsi Bhuinya in Palamu district during a joint operation by Jharkhand Jaguar and Palamu Police. 'Operation is going on against Maoists in Palamu since early morning. Jharkhand Jaguar and Palamu Police personnel are involved in this operation. A Maoist commander has been killed in the encounter and a weapon has also been recovered. There are reports of many Maoists getting shot during the encounter. Jawans are conducting search operations on a large scale in the area,' Jharkhand police spokesperson and IG (Operation) Amol V. Homkar told The Hindu. ANALYSIS | Is this the endgame for the Maoists? Maoist Nitesh Yadav, who has a reward of ₹15 lakh, and Sanjay Godram, who has a reward of ₹10 lakh, were in the squad of Bhuinya. Ahmedabad, May 18 (UNI) Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday praised the Armed Forces for eliminating terror camps in Pakistan and POK, and said that Operation Sindoor had exposed the nexus between the Pakistani Army, the Pakistan state and terrorism before the whole world. Addressing a gathering in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, Shah said, "Our Brahmos missiles destroyed Pakistan's airbases. Our brave soldiers of the Indian Army have eliminated the hideouts of Hafiz Saeed, Masood Azhar and many terrorists who were taking refuge in Pakistan and for this, the whole country bows down to the Jawans of our armed forces", a Home Ministry statement said. Stating that Operation Sindoor had exposed many things about Pakistan, Shah said, "Pakistan used to tell the whole world that there are no terrorists and terrorist activities in our country. But when our missile fell there under Operation Sindoor and the terrorists were wiped out, Pakistan was exposed in front of the whole world". He said that whenever the history of protecting the security of the country and its borders will be written, the name of Operation Sindoor will be written in golden letters. "After the Pahalgam terror attack, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had promised the people of the country in Bihar that the Indian Armed Forces would destroy the terrorist hideouts. In a few days, Prime Minister Modi's strong political will, the valour of the Army, the accurate information of our intelligence agencies and the firepower of the Armed Forces attacked nine locations in Pakistan and destroyed the terrorist hideouts," Shah said. He said, "The government gave a befitting reply to the terrorists by first carrying out surgical strikes, then airstrikes and now by eliminating the terrorists who wiped off the vermillion from the foreheads of the women of our country". Shah said, "After Operation Sindoor, Prime Minister Modi made it clear in his address to the country that the water of Sindhu and blood cannot flow simultaneously, trade and terrorism cannot go on together. He has also made it clear to the whole world that we are ready for talks with Pakistan, but the talks will be for taking back Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (PoK) and ending terrorism". He said that today 140 crore countrymen are saluting and praising the bravery of our armed forces, the accuracy of our intelligence agencies and the strong political will of Prime Minister Modi. The Home Minister said that the inauguration and foundation stone laying of development works worth more than Rs 1,550 crore is taking place simultaneously. He said that today the beneficiaries have also benefited under many employment -oriented schemes by Khadi Village Industries Commission (KVIC). Shah said that today KVIC has provided employment facilities to more than 1,000 beneficiaries through electronic potter's wheel, sewing machine, leather tool kit, Kachi Ghani oil machine, automatic incense stick making machine.
