Chery rolls out ‘Cherished' pre-owned car programme across SA
Chery SA has introduced a certified pre-owned vehicle programme called Cherished. The pre-owned models come with the full backing of the Chinese carmaker and provide dealers with a selection of carefully inspected and high-quality pre-owned Chery SUVs, said Jay Jay Botes, GM for Chery SA. He said all cars retain the remainder of the 10-year/one-million-kilometre engine warranty, a benefit exclusively available from Cherished dealers within the Chery dealer network. The engine warranty was initially available only to the first owner and was not transferable. Botes said every vehicle undergoes a comprehensive inspection and all Cherished pre-owned vehicles receive the balance of the service plan, with a minimum of one-year/15,000km remaining. To qualify as a Cherished vehicle, all Chery models need to have been maintained within the Chery Dealer network. Additionally, customers will be offered the chance to extend their service or maintenance plans, providing further peace of mind. Chery returned to the SA market in 2021 after exiting in 2018. It has become the country's second-best-selling Chinese car brand behind GWM/Haval.

Chery to launch major hybrid offensive in 2025
Chery is set to significantly expand its presence in the SA automotive market in 2025 with the launch of 19 new hybrid vehicles. The first models highlighting Chery's advanced Super Hybrid (CSH) brand will debut at Auto Shanghai 2025, including the Tiggo 7 CSH, Tiggo 8 CSH, and Tiggo 9 CSH. This move underscores Chery's commitment to offering a diverse range of electrified options to consumers. The next-generation CSH range will feature highly efficient hybrid engines boasting a thermal efficiency of 46.5%, paired with a 93% efficient hybrid transmission. This combination will result in exceptionally low fuel consumption figures of 2-3 litres per 100km, a key attraction for drivers seeking cost-effective and environmentally conscious vehicles. Chery's CSH technology incorporates a dedicated 2.0 T-GDI hybrid engine, coupled with DHT230 and DHT280 transmissions, delivering a potent total system output of up to 280kW. Engineered for versatility, CSH will also offer tailored power solutions for off-road driving, appealing to drivers with varied lifestyle needs. The super hybrid technology will be integrated across multiple platforms, including Super Hybrid Off-road, Super Golden Extended-Range, High-performance Electric, and the core Super Hybrid platform, ensuring a wide selection of models for the market. Chery Himla revealed as marque's long awaited first bakkie
Himla has been confirmed for South Africa and will make landfall in 2026. Mentioned back in 2021, the Himla has finally been revealed as Chery's first ever bakkie. Picture: Jaco van der Merwe Chery's long awaited first-ever bakkie, the Himla, officially made its world at the Shanghai Auto Show on Wednesday (23 April). Details around the bakkie remain sketchy, but the Chinese carmaker confirmed that the double cab will be offered with a brand-first diesel engine alongside a hybrid version. It is expected to go on sale in South Africa in 2026 with specification and pricing expected in due course. Known so far The name was inspired by the Himalayan mountain range, which including China, crosses six countries. Chery also uses it as an acronym for high performance, innovation, multifunctional, longevity and all-terrain. The four pillars of functionality it is based on is loading, crossing, camping and towing. It was originally thought that the Chery Himla will be powered by petrol engines used in the manufacturer's SUVs. These include the 1.5-litre and 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engines. A brand-new hybrid powertrain called Chery Super Hybrid (CSH) was introduced at the Shanghai Auto Show. It will be offered in the Tiggo 7, 8 and 9 Pro, which was all on display. The BYD Shark last month joined the three GWM bakkies, the Steed, P300 and P500, as well as JAC's X- and T-Series, the Foton Tunland G7 and LDV T60. Also confirmed for South Africa is the range extender electric bakkie the Riddara RD6, a plug-in JAC T9, the LDV Terron 9, the Changan hunter, a bakkie from Deepal and one from Chery sister-brand Jetour.
