A Delhi-bound IndiGo flight from Patna, with 169 passengers on board, had to make an emergency landing after a bird hit. The flight (6E509) landed safely at Jay Prakash Narayan International Airport. Efforts are underway to repair the incident occurred at 8:42 am, right after takeoff at 8:42 am. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate and lay foundation stone of multiple development projects worth over ₹48,520 crore in Bihar's Karakat on Friday (May 30, 2025). The Prime Minister, who arrived in Patna on a two-day visit to the State on Thursday (May 29, 2025), will also address a public rally in Karakat. According to an official communication, "The PM will inaugurate, lay foundation stone and dedicate to the nation multiple development projects worth over ₹48,520 crore in Karakat. Boosting power infrastructure in the region, he will lay the foundation stone for the Nabinagar Super Thermal Power Project, stage-II (3x800 MW) in Aurangabad district worth over ₹29,930 crore, which will aim at ensuring energy security for Bihar and eastern India". It will boost industrial growth, create job opportunities, and provide affordable electricity in the region, it added. Further, in boost to the road infrastructure and connectivity in the region, the PM will lay the foundation stone for various road projects including the four-laning of the Patna-Arrah-Sasaram section of NH-119A, and six-laning of Varanasi-Ranchi-Kolkata highway (NH-319B) and Ramnagar-Kacchi Dargah stretch (NH-119D), and construction of a new Ganga bridge between Buxar and Bharauli. These projects will create seamless high-speed corridors in the state along with boosting trade and regional connectivity. He will also inaugurate the four laning of Patna-Gaya Dobhi section of NH 22, worth around ₹5,520 crore and four laning of the elevated highway and grade improvements at Gopalganj town on NH 27, among others. Besides, the PM will dedicate to the nation the third rail line between Son Nagar — Mohammad Ganj worth over ₹1,330 crore, among others, it added. Patna: Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the newly constructed terminal building of Jay Prakash Narayan International Airport in Patna on Thursday. He landed at the airport at 4:30 PM and proceeded directly to the new terminal for the inauguration ceremony. He was welcomed by Bihar Governor Arif Mohammad Khan and Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, apart from the cabinet ministers of state and the Central government. Constructed at Rs 1,400 crore, the new terminal spans 65,155 square meters and is equipped with modern facilities. It features 54 check-in counters, five aerobridges, eight X-ray baggage scanners, five luggage conveyor belts, a multi-level parking facility, a VIP lounge, and a cafeteria. With this new infrastructure, the airport's daily passenger handling capacity is expected to rise to 4,500, while the annual capacity will increase to 1 crore, up from the current 25 lakh. The number of daily flights is also projected to more than double, from 34 to 75. In addition to the inauguration, PM Modi will also lay the foundation of development projects worth over Rs 48,520 crore in Karakat, including a new airport at Bihta, located approximately 35 kilometres from Patna. The upcoming Bihta airport will be developed across 116 acres, with a terminal building covering 68,000 square meters. It will have the capacity to handle 3,000 passengers per hour and up to 50 lakh passengers annually. Following the ceremonies, the Prime Minister also held a roadshow from the airport to the BJP office on Veer Chand Patel Path, passing through Sheikhpura Mor and the Income Tax roundabout. Large crowds gathered along the route to catch a glimpse of the Prime Minister. BJP workers showcased cut-outs of Operation Sindoor and the BrahMos missile during the procession. At the BJP office, PM Modi will also interact with party leaders before heading to Raj Bhavan for an overnight stay. On Friday, he is scheduled to travel to Bikramganj in Rohtas district to address a massive public rally. This marks PM Modi's first visit to Bihar following the launch of Operation Sindoor. He has visited the state four times, earlier this year.
