Min Gore accepts errors in planning amid water scarcity
Kolhapur: Solapur's guardian minister Jaykumar Gore announced that a meeting of the canal advisory committee will be held under the state water resources minister, Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil, on May 21 to address the water scarcity concerns in the district. In the meeting of the district planning and development council, several MLAs raised the water scarcity issue across the district and demanded immediate action. The authorities informed the ministers that only 1 TMC of water was left in the reservoirs, which needs to be used carefully until the monsoon. "I can see that there was some error in the planning of water utilisation. We will hold talks with the minister of the water resources department on May 21. We will also discuss utilising the tourism potential of Ujani Dam," said Gore in the meeting. The MLAs demanded that the Mangalweda tehsil should get water from the Mhaisal irrigation scheme and Sangola tehsil should get water from the Man River. Sangola MLA Babasaheb Deshmukh said for the last month, water from the Man River was not released for his constituency. A separate meeting was held to review the water situation in the district. Gore asked the authorities to make water tankers available within 48 hours. At present, 64 water tankers are deployed in the district, whereas in the same period last year, 179 water tankers were operational. Recently, Solapur collector Kumar Ashirwad directed the authorities to mark and acquire the wells and borewells to draw out water for the water-scarce villages.
