Murder arrests after tragic death of toddler Jayla
Two people have been re-arrested on suspicion of murder following the death of a one-year-old girl who was injured on the Isle of Wight. Police were called to a report of a child being taken to hospital with serious injuries at an address on Dairy Crest Drive, Newport, at 11.34am on Friday, August 1. One-year-old Jayla-Jean Mclaren died in hospital on Sunday, August 3. Prior to her death, a 31-year-old man and a 27-year-old woman, both from Newport, were previously arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent. They remain in custody. Detective Superintendent Rod Kenny said: 'We know this case has caused considerable distress within the community and our thoughts remain with those affected by Jayla-Jean's death. 'The arrests made today are just one part of a much wider set of enquiries in our investigation to establish exactly what happened to Jayla-Jean, and those enquiries remain ongoing. 'We would like to reiterate that you should not speculate on this case, particularly on social media, as this could affect our investigation.' Jayla-Jean's family previously paid tribute, telling the County Press: "Mummy and daddy and nanny will always love you. Fly high princess xxxx". A man and a woman have been re-arrested on suspicion of murder following the death of a one-year-old girl on the Isle of Wight. Jayla-Jean Mclaren died on Sunday Aug 3 after being taken to hospital with serious injuries on Friday night, Hampshire Constabulary said. A 31-year-old man and 27-year-old woman had previously been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent prior to her death, but were released on conditional bail pending further inquiries. The force said they were re-arrested on suspicion of murder on Tuesday and remain in custody. Det Supt Rod Kenny said: 'We know this case has caused considerable distress within the community and our thoughts remain with those affected by Jayla-Jean's death. 'The arrests made today are just one part of a much wider set of inquiries in our investigation to establish exactly what happened to Jayla-Jean, and those inquiries remain ongoing. 'We would like to reiterate that you should not speculate on this case, particularly on social media, as this could affect our investigation.' In a statement issued by the force on Thursday, Jayla-Jean's family said: 'Mummy, daddy and nanny will always love you. Fly high princess.'
