UNF loses leading scorer for the second season in a row as Jasai Miles transfers to Indiana

UNF loses leading scorer for the second season in a row as Jasai Miles transfers to Indiana The University of North Florida men's basketball team has lost its leading scorer and third starter from the 2024-25 season, all to larger schools with deeper NIL pockets. Jasai Miles, a 6-foot-6 sophomore, has signed to play with Indiana, the second time in two years that the Ospreys' leading scorer has entered the transfer portal and moved on to a Power Four conference. The news was first reported by University of North Florida guards Jaylen Smith (4) and Jasai Miles (0) celebrate their 77-73 victory over Jacksonville University on Feb. 20. Both are transferring, Smith to East Tennessee and Miles to Indiana. Chaz Lanier left last year for Tennessee. He led the Volunteers in scoring with 18.0 points per game as they went 30-8 and reached the NCAA Tournament's Elite Eight. Advertisement UNF had already lost two other starters, sophomore point guard Jaylen Smith (11.4 points, 5.6 assists per game) to East Tennessee and graduate forward Liam Murphy (13.0 points per game) to Purdue, where he will have one year of eligibility. Freshman forward Josh Harris (13.4 points per game, 7.1 rebounds per game) and senior guard Ametri Moss (5.3 points per game) also are in the portal and expected to move on. Jacksonville University lost its leading scorer, junior guard Robert McCray V, who transferred to Florida State on April 4. McCray was first-team All-ASUN and averaged 16.2 points, 4.8 rebounds and 4.5 assists for the Dolphins. Advertisement The moves mean UNF coach Matthew Driscoll and JU coach Jordan Mincy will have wholesale rebuild jobs for the coming season. Counting graduation losses, the Ospreys will return four players from their 15-17 team, with junior guard Kamrin Oriol (7.3 points per game) the most experienced. The Dolphins could have as many as six players back from their 19-14 season, led by forward Stephon Payne III of Jacksonville (8.4 points per game, 6.3 rebounds per game).
