Jazan Leads Silk Production Drive Furthermore, the Jazan Mountains Development Authority presented this strategic project. Crucially, the initiative directly addresses the sourcing of natural silk. Instead of importing this precious material, Saudi Arabia will now cultivate and produce it domestically. This vital effort supports the revered Kiswa and Sacred Chamber coverings. Moreover, the Authority established a key partnership with the General Authority for the Care of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet's Mosque. Under this collaboration, the Jazan Mountains Development Authority will manage the entire raw silk production process. Importantly, they will supply the King Abdulaziz Complex for the Holy Kaaba Kiswa with material meeting exact project specifications. Boosting Economy & Heritage Visitors explored this initiative prominently at the Jazan Region pavilion. The Madinah Region Principality organized the two-day forum. Significantly, the project focuses on localizing cultivation and processing of rare natural silk derived from silkworms. This material is essential for high-value textile industries. Additionally, the initiative promises substantial socioeconomic benefits. It will generate new job opportunities across the region. Farmers in mountainous areas will see enhanced income streams. Furthermore, the project fosters an attractive investment climate and drives sustainable development. It also aims to significantly boost Saudi Arabia's domestic silk output. New Initiative to Localise Silk Production for the Kaaba's Kiswa
A new Jazan-led initiative is replacing imported silk with locally farmed fibers for the sacred textiles of the Kaaba and Prophet's Chamber. A new initiative will localise the production of natural silk used in the Kiswa of the Holy Kaaba and the covering of the Prophet's Sacred Chamber. The project, led by the Jazan Mountains Development Authority in collaboration with the General Authority for the Care of the Affairs of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet's Mosque, seeks to replace imported silk with locally cultivated alternatives. Under the plan, raw silk will be farmed and processed in Jazan and then delivered to the King Abdulaziz Complex for the Holy Kaaba Kiswa, adhering to specifications established during the initiative's feasibility study. The initiative is part of a broader push for sustainability and rural development. By cultivating silk, the project aims to create economic opportunities for farmers in mountainous areas, stimulate private investment, and enhance Saudi Arabia's natural textile output. The program has received formal approval from the General Authority and is expected to support national goals around economic diversification and local industry empowerment.
