Elite CB Spurns Michigan For Penn State In Chaotic Commitment Reveal
Class of 2026 four-star cornerback Jaziel Hart is headed to Penn State after announcing his commitment to the Nittany Lions over Michigan in a wild reveal on Thursday. Hart (6-foot, 170 pounds) plays for North Cross High School in Roanoke, Virginia. According to On3, the highly-touted cornerback ranks as the No. 35 player at the position and the No. 7 player in his state. Advertisement Five major programs made Hart's final list, including Penn State, Michigan, Tennessee, Virginia Tech and Notre Dame. Hart held a live commitment on Thursday at North Cross High, joined by his family and some of his teammates. After On3's Josh Newberg asked where Hart would be playing college football, he briefly donned a Michigan hat before tossing it aside and putting on a Penn State hat while unveiling a Nittany Lions' jersey. Wolverines' fans had a short-lived glimpse of a key recruiting win before Hart's interesting move marked the victory for Penn State and head coach James Franklin. I know where I want to be," Hart said via On3. "This commitment is really me shutting my recruitment down unless something crazy happens. Penn State is where I want to be." Advertisement Hart previously took unofficial visits to both Penn State and Tennessee. His trip to State College to witness the Nittany Lions' spring game appears to have been a key experience. 'I was there the day before the spring game and I knew my mind was made up then," Hart said. "It felt right and I knew there was no reason to hold it in. Penn State did everything correctly with me and the place and the people fit me.' Penn State's 2026 class is shaping up to be one of the best in the country. The group includes 17 commits with eight four-star recruits, ranking 11th nationally and fourth in the Big Ten. Notre Dame football recruiting update ahead of 'Pot of Gold Day' St. Patricks Day is will always coincide with Notre Dame football, as its their 'Pot of Gold Day' with multiple offers being dished out. While there will be a lot of action regarding Irish recruiting today, that doesn't discount the coaching staff's efforts from this past weekend. There was plenty of new developments with some of the top recruits across the country. Find out below the latest on Notre Dame football recruiting before a good amount of offers are sent out to new prospects. (Note: All recruiting rankings are according to the 247Sports Composite and are in the 2026 class unless otherwise noted.) Cornerback Jaziel Hart While Hart had already trimmed his list down to six schools, Notre Dame not included, he will still make a visit to South Bend this spring. There will be more visits for the 5-foot, 11-inch and 170-pound defender who is currently unranked. Running back Javian Osborne An official visit to Notre Dame has been scheduled starting on March 18th, as the nation's No. 83 overall prospect figures out where he wants to attend college. This would be a huge recruiting win for the Irish, but they'll have to wow him on his trip as it looks like Michigan and Miami have a leg up on the competition. Multiple prospects announce their official visits There were multiple players who decided to make the announcement over the weekend that they will visit South Bend. Safety Nick Reddish (No. 593), edge rusher Ebenezer Ewetade (No. 152), tight end JC Anderson (No. 145), wide receiver Brayden Robinson (No. 324), cornerback Caden Harris (No. 158), running back Jonaz Walton (No. 118) and offensive tackle Ekene Ogboko (No. 59). It's a big time group of prospects that the Irish will have the opportunity to show what Notre Dame is all about. Linebacker Landon Sams The unranked Ohio prospect will take an unofficial visit to see Notre Dame this spring, in hopes of earning an offer. He's a bit on the smaller side for a linebacker, at 6-foot and 225-pounds, but that doesn't matter if he can make the plays. You have to think that if the Irish do offer, they'll jump to the top of his list. Quarterback Donald Tabron II This is one recruitment that will be a lengthy one, as Tabron is in the 2028 class. He already holds multiple offers, but one is not from Notre Dame. This visit could be the start of potentially getting one, as the Irish would like to see him throw and if he is as big as his listed 6-foot, 3-inch and 180-pound frame is. Notre Dame makes offer to Jaziel Hart The WR/CB from Virginia is in the Class of 2026 Notre Dame has made an offer to cornerback and wide receiver Jaziel Hart. Hart, who is in the Class of 2026 and is from the Roanoke, Virginia area, now has offers from the Fighting Irish and 23 other schools. Some of the other schools include Michigan, Penn State, Tennessee, Indiana and Virginia Tech. He's had official visits to Virginia Tech, Michigan, Penn State and Tennessee.
