Notre Dame football recruiting update ahead of 'Pot of Gold Day'
St. Patricks Day is will always coincide with Notre Dame football, as its their 'Pot of Gold Day' with multiple offers being dished out.
While there will be a lot of action regarding Irish recruiting today, that doesn't discount the coaching staff's efforts from this past weekend. There was plenty of new developments with some of the top recruits across the country.
Find out below the latest on Notre Dame football recruiting before a good amount of offers are sent out to new prospects.
(Note: All recruiting rankings are according to the 247Sports Composite and are in the 2026 class unless otherwise noted.)
Cornerback Jaziel Hart
While Hart had already trimmed his list down to six schools, Notre Dame not included, he will still make a visit to South Bend this spring. There will be more visits for the 5-foot, 11-inch and 170-pound defender who is currently unranked.
Running back Javian Osborne
An official visit to Notre Dame has been scheduled starting on March 18th, as the nation's No. 83 overall prospect figures out where he wants to attend college. This would be a huge recruiting win for the Irish, but they'll have to wow him on his trip as it looks like Michigan and Miami have a leg up on the competition.
Multiple prospects announce their official visits
There were multiple players who decided to make the announcement over the weekend that they will visit South Bend. Safety Nick Reddish (No. 593), edge rusher Ebenezer Ewetade (No. 152), tight end JC Anderson (No. 145), wide receiver Brayden Robinson (No. 324), cornerback Caden Harris (No. 158), running back Jonaz Walton (No. 118) and offensive tackle Ekene Ogboko (No. 59). It's a big time group of prospects that the Irish will have the opportunity to show what Notre Dame is all about.
Linebacker Landon Sams
The unranked Ohio prospect will take an unofficial visit to see Notre Dame this spring, in hopes of earning an offer. He's a bit on the smaller side for a linebacker, at 6-foot and 225-pounds, but that doesn't matter if he can make the plays. You have to think that if the Irish do offer, they'll jump to the top of his list.
Quarterback Donald Tabron II
This is one recruitment that will be a lengthy one, as Tabron is in the 2028 class. He already holds multiple offers, but one is not from Notre Dame. This visit could be the start of potentially getting one, as the Irish would like to see him throw and if he is as big as his listed 6-foot, 3-inch and 180-pound frame is.
Notre Dame commits prepare for 'Pot of Gold Day'
Multiple current Irish 2026 commits are excited for what is to come today, as they will see plenty of their classmates get offers. You have to believe that they will all help out with their recruitments as well. It going to be a fun one today.

BALTIMORE — Detroit Tigers pitcher Jackson Jobe will undergo season-ending Tommy John surgery on his right elbow, the team announced Wednesday. The 22-year-old rookie went 4-1 with a 4.22 ERA in 10 starts after making Detroit's opening-day roster. He was placed on the 15-day injured with a Grade 1 right flexor strain following his May 28 outing.

The Tigers Need To Trade For A Starter After Losing Jackson Jobe
The Detroit Tigers have the best record in MLB at 44-24, but they'll have to press on without a highly promising young pitcher for the rest of the season. Jackson Jobe will undergo Tommy John surgery according to Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press. Jobe, a 22-year-old right-hander, was the third overall pick in the 2021 draft and the consensus top pitching prospect in the minors before the 2025 season (excluding Roki Sasaki). Every major prospect ranking outlet had him in the top five overall on their preseason lists. He made two appearances for the Tigers out of the bullpen at the end of the 2024 season, then pitched twice more in the playoffs. He began the year in Detroit's rotation, but failed to live up to the hype. In 10 starts and 49 innings, he compiled a 4.22 ERA and a 1.49 WHIP with just 39 strikeouts. Batters hit .296 with a .519 slugging percentage against his vaunted fastball. Even more concerning was that his fastball velocity decreased rapidly over the course of the season. Early in spring training, he averaged 98.5 mph, but in his last start before going on the injured list, he was down to 95.5 mph. That can often be a precursor to an injury, and now he will miss the rest of this year and most or all of the 2026 campaign too. The Tigers have enjoyed a dream start to the season and are positioned to make an easy run to the playoffs, but they have to be concerned about their pitching depth. Jobe is one of five Detroit starting pitchers on the injured list at the moment. Reese Olson is sidelined with ring finger inflammation, while Alex Cobb, Ty Madden, and José Urquidy have all yet to pitch this year. The front three pitchers in their rotation have certainly held their own. Tarik Skubal is aiming for his second Cy Young Award in a row, and he leads the American League with a 1.85 FIP, 0.8 walks per nine innings, and 11.3 strikeouts per nine innings. If he can maintain his 15.0 strikeouts-to-walks ratio, it would shatter the MLB single-season record. Jack Flaherty and Casey Mize also have excellent 3.41 and 2.91 ERAs respectively. Keider Montero and Sawyer Gipson-Long have been pressed into duty by all the injuries. Montero has made six starts and three relief appearances, but has only struck out 30 batters in 46 innings while giving up 48 hits and 17 walks. Gipson-Long missed almost the entirety of the 2024 season, only making one appearance in the minors. He has already pitched at four levels this year, including 8 1/3 innings for the Tigers. With Jackson Jobe out of action until possibly 2027, Detroit has already scraped the bottom of the barrel of their pitching depth. They should become major players in the trade market for starting pitching before the deadline at the end of July. They may even need to acquire more than one hurler, especially if another pitcher gets hurt, and Jobe's fate is a reminder of how fragile pitchers' arms can be.

Venezuelans in exile urge U.S. to deny visa to soccer player over ties to Maduro regime
A Miami-based Venezuelan exile organization has asked the U.S. State Department to deny the visa of a Venezuelan soccer player set to participate in the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup, due to his close ties to the Nicolás Maduro regime. In a letter sent to Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Politically Persecuted Venezuelans Abroad, or VEPPEX, expressed concern over the imminent entry into the U.S. of Matías Lacava, a player on the South Korean team Ulsan HD, which will play its first match on U.S. soil on June 17 at Inter & Co Stadium in Orlando. Matías Lacava is the son of Rafael Lacava, current governor of Carabobo state in north-central Venezuela and a prominent figure in Maduro's regime. The official was sanctioned on Feb. 25, 2019, by the U.S. government along with three other Venezuelan governors for corruption and obstructing humanitarian aid. In the letter, VEPPEX argues that allowing the entry of immediate relatives of sanctioned officials such as Matías Lacava represents a clear contradiction to the principles of justice, accountability and respect for human rights that the United States has historically upheld. 'Allowing the son of a top Maduro regime official to enter the U.S. for an international sporting event is a direct affront to the Venezuelan exile community, many of whom have fled precisely the oppression that family represents,' the letter stated. The organization formally requested that the State Department revoke any valid visa or entry permit held by Matías Lacava and deny him entry into the country until a thorough review of his case is conducted, 'taking into account possible implications for human rights and national security.' In its decision to sanction Rafael Lacava in 2019, the Treasury Department argued that the four governors were involved in endemic corruption practices and that he helped obstruct the delivery of critical humanitarian aid, thereby worsening the ongoing humanitarian crisis 'caused by Maduro's illegitimate regime.' In Rafael Lacava's specific case, the department noted that he 'has long been a friend and key intermediary' of Maduro and continues to act on his behalf. 'In early 2018, he was accused of hiding funds in Switzerland and Andorra.' Rafael Lacava was re-elected in the controversial regional elections held on May 25, which were widely denounced for lack of transparency, voter repression and the exclusion of opposition candidates, according to VEPPEX. For the Venezuelan exile community, the case of Matías Lacava 'carries deep symbolic weight' because, according to VEPPEX, the United States has been a bastion of hope and refuge for thousands of politically persecuted individuals, and decisions like this send a contradictory message about its stance toward authoritarian regimes. 'We trust that you will take swift and decisive action on this matter,' the letter to the leadership of the State Department concludes.
