Police officer and wife mysteriously found dead in 'love motel' hot tub
A police officer and his wife have been found dead in the hot tub of a Brazilian motel.
The lifeless bodies of Jeferson Sagaz, 37, and Ana Silva, 42, were discovered at the Dallas Motel in the city of São José on Tuesday night.
Neither body showed any sign of violence or struggle, according to the authorities probing their deaths.
Santa Catarina Civil Police chief Felipe Simão told Brazilian news outlet G1 that they have not ruled out the possibility that the couple was murdered and are also looking into whether they died by accident or committed suicide.
Simão added that it's 'important that speculation about the cause of death and the couple's private life be avoided.'
Results of an autopsy showing the cause of death would take about 10 days to be completed.
The couple were last seen alive on Sunday at their four-year-old daughter's birthday at a park, according to Joice Botelho, who is married to Silva's cousin.
The couple then went to a bar, but failed to return to Sagaz's sister's home to pick up their daughter.
'They went to a bar and were last seen around 11:30 pm,' Botelho said.
'The next day, they were supposed to pick up their daughter from his sister... and they didn't show up.'
Simão said that while the family noticed that Sagaz and Silva were missing, they did not contact the police to file a report.
Th Dallas Motel offers rooms for $29-per-night or $14 for four hours.
The couple have been married for almost 20 years.
Sagaz was assigned to the Santa Catarina Military Police's academy in Florianópolis.
Silva was the owner of Moodnailsbr, a salon in São José which she opened nine years ago.
'We say goodbye to a mother, a boss, a daughter, a wife, a sister, an exceptional woman,' the salon said in a tribute message posted on its Instagram account.
