Lakers jersey history No. 3 — Jeff Lamp
Through the 2024-25 season, the Los Angeles Lakers have had a total of 506 players suit up for them, going back to their days in Minneapolis. Some were forgettable, some were serviceable, some were good and a select few were flat-out legendary.
As the Lakers approach their 80th season of existence (they were founded back in 1946 as the Detroit Gems in the National Basketball League), LeBron Wire is taking a look at each player who has worn their jersey, whether it has been a purple and gold one or the ones they donned back in the Midwest during their early years.
Here's a look at Jeff Lamp, a forward who played for the Lakers in the late 1980s.
Lamp played four seasons at the University of Virginia, where he earned two first-team All-ACC nods and averaged 18.8 points a game. The Portland Trail Blazers took him with the No. 15 pick in the 1981 NBA Draft.
In his first five pro seasons, Lamp was a decent bench player for the Trail Blazers, Milwaukee Bucks and San Antonio Spurs. The Lakers signed him as a free agent just prior to the start of the 1987-88 season.
He was largely kept on the bench by Lakers coach Pat Riley, but he did earn himself a world championship ring in 1988 and a second trip to the NBA Finals in 1989. During those two years in L.A., Lamp averaged 1.6 points in 4.6 minutes a game during the regular season.
The 1988-89 season happened to be his final one in the NBA. For his career, he put up 5.1 points in 11.9 minutes per game.
