Eagles' training camp: Looking at Philadelphia's biggest perceived weakness

A recent review of the Eagles' defense misses key details in the latest critique from We're getting closer to the launch of the Philadelphia Eagles' 2025 campaign. The regular season begins at Lincoln Financial Field with a Super Bowl banner reveal and a game vs. the hated Dallas Cowboys. There's still work to do. The goal? It's pretty obvious. Win the National Football Conference. Then, win Super Bowl 60 two weeks later. NFL columnist takes his shot at revealing the Eagles' biggest weakness Santa Clara provides the backdrop for football's biggest game this time around. Every team entered training camp with dreams of booking a flight there. Some teams have better chances than others. Some teams, all of which shall remain nameless, have no shot at all. We've reached the point of the calendar year when we begin discussing strengths and weaknesses, and who might raise the Lombardi Trophy and why. recently released the biggest challenges facing each team as they enter the regular season. Jeffri Chadiha, the writer of this one, says the most significant obstacle facing the Eagles is acclimating the new faces on defense. "The Eagles lost some valuable veterans (on defense) after stomping the (Kansas City) Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX... As is usually the case, Philadelphia has been grooming players to move into all these positions, but change isn't always easy. The edge-rusher situation is particularly interesting to watch, as third-year pro Nolan Smith is the only player in that group without major questions attached to him. That said, these are the Eagles. Defensive coordinator Vic Fangio will make it all work." That last line is key. Vic Fangio will make this work. The 'losses' angle has been bludgeoned to death. Key contributors are gone, but Philadelphia isn't rebuilding. They're reloading. Everywhere they've lost someone, they have someone else who is potentially just as good, if not better. There aren't many reasons to be fearful about this defense. If you're looking for real potential obstacles, here are a few. Don't worry about the defense's acclimation. Worry about its depth, especially at edge rusher, and cross your fingers that a committee system is used in the backfield. This team can't overwork Saquon Barkley as they did last season. Philadelphia must find actual depth behind A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith. Lastly, let's hope Howie Roseman pays some of this young talent before the asking price gets too high. Coach Fangio has his unit under control. There aren't many reasons to question that theory, if any.

NFL analyst predicts Falcons QB Kirk Cousins will start elsewhere in 2025

The Atlanta Falcons are planning to move forward with Kirk Cousins as their No. 2 quarterback this season. While the team had hoped to move the veteran signal-caller during the offseason, Cousins' contract made that extremely difficult. It turns out NFL teams aren't overly desperate to trade assets for an overpaid 36-year-old who's coming off the worst five-game stretch of his career. Not only did Cousins toss a career-high 16 interceptions, but his 18 touchdowns were the fourth-fewest he's thrown since entering the league. Advertisement However, while no trade has come together yet, there's still a chance Cousins plays elsewhere this season. Jeffri Chadiha released 10 "way-too-early bold predictions" for the 2025 season. His final prediction was that Cousins would start for another team this season, citing the history of starting quarterbacks getting injured around the league. 'Kirk Cousins will start for another team this year' "[Dak] Prescott was one of four different signal-callers who didn't finish last season because of injury," wrote Chadiha. "Two years ago, the Browns started five quarterbacks, while the Vikings and Jets each started four. It's a fact of life: Quarterbacks go down in this league. This is why Cousins has a decent shot of playing some place this year." Advertisement As poor as Cousins played down the stretch of the team's uneven 2024 campaign, he looked good during Atlanta's 6-3 start. Cousins even passed for a franchise-record 509 yards in an overtime win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. After that, the wheels began to fall off. Cousins reportedly suffered an injury during the team's Week 10 loss to the New Orleans Saints. While the Falcons surely hoped to move Cousins before the start of offseason training programs, it's still a possibility going forward. "If history tells us anything, some team will come calling for him sooner or later," Chadiha concluded. Cousins was present for mandatory minicamp, and it's tough to imagine him getting traded before the team reports for training camp on July 23. Caleb Williams unique gift explained by Bears Super Bowl QB

The post Caleb Williams unique gift explained by Bears Super Bowl QB appeared first on ClutchPoints. With only one season under his belt, Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams is facing historical expectations. columnist Jeffri Chadiha predicts Williams to throw 4,500 yards as well as 35 touchdowns this season. Advertisement Chadiha is not alone, as former Bears quarterback Rex Grossman has entered into the fray. He also anticipates Williams putting up historical numbers, according to Ryan Droste of Windy City Gridiron. In addition, Grossman expects Williams to be a franchise player within the right system. 'A lot of people can't (succeed out of structure), so he's got something a lot of people can't do,' Grossman said. 'I sure as hell couldn't do it. I was pretty much stuck in the pocket, and I had to. He's kind of got to force himself to resist the urge of rolling out when he doesn't need to, or taking unnecessary sacks. If you keep to schedule, meaning you keep your third downs manageable, it makes it a lot easier.' Later on, Grossman referenced his breakout 2006/2007 season in which the Bears went to the Super Bowl. He used it as the basis for Williams to make history this year. Advertisement 'During our Super Bowl run, we were ahead in a lot of games and didn't throw the ball a lot,'he said. 'That really wasn't our identity. We were more play-action pass, run the ball and quick passes. I did have some big games, but the priority of that season wasn't to put up stats. Stats are great if you have the personnel and the play package to throw the ball a lot. I think they will have a balanced offense, and he'll be around 4,200 or 4,300 yards this year.' Rex Grossman dismisses Caleb Williams draft claims Recently, Williams has been the subject of allegations that he didn't want to be drafted by the Bears. A book by Seth Wickersham, entitled American King: A Biography of the Quarterback, claims that Williams and his father coordinated efforts to ensure the Chicago Bears didn't draft him but instead by the Minnesota Vikings. Williams has refuted those claims, as has Grossman. Advertisement 'You start to develop a bond with all the people behind-the-scenes and the fanbase,' Grossman said. 'You get a house. Anything that happened before the draft should be ignored. I'm sure Caleb's all-in now. I think that's something he tried to do with his team before the draft, but now, it's a non-story. … I know everybody behind the scenes in Chicago is amazing, from the owner, to the equipment managers, to the training staff. It's a beautiful facility, so I'm sure he's all bought in.' Additionally, Bears coach Ben Johnson has created an environment that allows Williams to develop into a franchise quarterback.

Bills Given Top Billing in Analyst's Bold Predictions

Bills Given Top Billing in Analyst's Bold Predictions originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Do the Buffalo Bills have enough to end their Super Bowl drought ... finally? According to columnist Jeffri Chadiha, they finally do. Advertisement Chadiha made 10 bold predictions for the 2025 season, with the Bills becoming champions as the top overall prediction. "This is bold simply because the Bills have dealt with so much heartache over the last five seasons," Chadiha said. "The team has too much talent and smart coaching to continually miss out on opportunities to get over the hump, which is why this prediction makes so much sense today." The long-time analyst isn't the only one who believes in Buffalo this year. With the reigning MVP at quarterback, the Bills think they have enough to become the best team in football. There is - maybe - just one team standing in their way. Advertisement While the Bills have succeeded in the regular season against the Kansas City Chiefs, the team has yet to defeat their conference rivals when it matters most. The Chiefs have eliminated Buffalo in back-to-back years, the latest of which came in the AFC Title game. It really is quite simple for Buffalo. If they want to be able to win a Super Bowl, the first thing they must do is to try and get over the hump against Kansas City. It's easier said than done. Only two active quarterbacks can claim they have defeated Patrick Mahomes in a playoff game. One of them (Philly's Jalen Hurts) just joined the list in Super Bowl LIX. That is what it comes down to, though. If Chadiha is correct with his prediction, the Bills need to finally have an answer for the Chiefs come playoff time.
