ECU children's hospital holds annual ‘Jell-o Toss'
GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) — ECU Health gave patients at a local children's hospital a chance to make a mess Tuesday.
The James and Connie Maynard Children's Hospital at ECU Health Medical Center held their annual Jell-o Toss, where patients get to share a smile while doctors brace for impact. Tons of doctors sign up for the event each year to help children have fun away from an intimidating setting.
'A lot of times patients are upstairs. We like to get them downstairs and get them outside. They can be a kid. This is supposed to be a really fun event to kind of help our nursing staff and our patients. It's like when two worlds collide, they can kind of have a little bit of fun while they're in the hospital.' said Kelsey Bennett, Child Life Specialist. 'Being a patient in the hospital is very scary for kiddos and having them be able to come out, be a kid, run around, have some fun, you know, it's very it's we have a beautiful day outside. So making sure they can get some energy out instead of being in their rooms upstairs and being in the hospital. So it kind of makes them have a little divide from all the medical things and have a little bit of fun.'
Bennett added that the annual event is very rewarding.
