17 flood victims in Kg Iban Merotai rescued

Tawau Fire and Rescue Station chief Jemishin Ujin said the victims included 12 adult men, two adult women, two boys, and a girl. His team received the emergency call at 10.58am and arrived at the location, 35km away, by 11.39am with seven personnel and a fire engine. The operation involved support from 20 Merotai Volunteer Firefighters, four police officers, and three Civil Defence Force members. "All victims were moved to safety using villagers' boats. Sulawesi quake is felt in Tawau, Lahad Datu

TAWAU: No structural damage was detected following a strong earthquake that struck the Minahassa Peninsula in Sulawesi on Saturday. The 6.1 magnitude tremor occurred about 28km from Tawau at 8.51pm. Tawau Fire and Rescue Station Chief, Jemishin Ujin, confirmed this assessment after his team conducted monitoring operations at several key locations throughout the district. 'We deployed a team of five personnel to monitor various important sites, particularly Tawau Hospital, hotels, financial institutions and petrol kiosks, after receiving emergency calls at 9.11pm,' he said. According to the Malaysian Meteorological Department website, tremors from the earthquake were felt in Tawau, Lahad Datu and Semporna, besides surrounding areas. However, officials confirmed there was no tsunami threat to Malaysia. Meanwhile, observations on several active social media platforms in the district found numerous comments from residents reporting they had experienced strong tremors lasting several seconds. Two men killed in Tawau, Kota Kinabalu accidents

TAWAU: A 31-year-old man was killed in an accident involving four vehicles along the Kunak-Tawau road on Tuesday. Tawau Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) Chief Jemishin Ujin said the vehicles involved were a five-tonne lorry, two four-wheel drives (a Mitsubishi Triton and a Toyota Hilux SR) and a Perodua Aruz, which the deceased had been travelling in. He said the victim was pronounced dead at the scene and his body was handed over to the police for further action. Those travelling in the other vehicles escaped injuries. According to Jemishin, a team of eight firefighters along with two fire engines were dispatched to the scene after receiving an emergency call at 12.54pm via the MERS999 emergency line. 'They arrived at the location, about 52km away, at 1.43pm. The operation ended at 2.42pm after ensuring the area was safe and there were no further hazards,' he said. In KOTA KINABALU, a man in his 20s died after losing control of his motorcycle and crashing into a car near the Syariah Court on Jalan Tun Fuad Stephen, Tuesday. The car was said to be travelling from Jalan UMS towards SK Likas when the 11.30am accident happened. Kota Kinabalu District Police Chief ACP Kasim Muda, in a statement, said the motorcyclist was believed to have collided with the rear right side of the car driven by a man in his 30s. Medical officials pronounced the motorcyclist dead at the scene due to severe head injuries, while the car driver escaped unharmed. Man dies after car crashes into pole, overturns in Tawau

Tawau Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) chief Jemishin Ujin said the 32-year-old victim was confirmed dead at the scene by medical personnel. He said a team of 10 firefighters and two engines were dispatched to the location immediately after receiving an emergency call via Mers999 at 5.13am. The accident involved a Proton Satria believed to have skidded before crashing into the pole and overturning. 4WD plunges into ravine in Tawau

Tawau District Fire and Rescue Station Deputy Supt II Jemishin Ujin said the four-wheel-drive vehicle flipped over after falling into a 7m-deep ravine. 'All victims trapped inside the vehicle sustained injuries but were successfully and safely extricated by quarry workers at the scene,' he said. Earlier, the Sabah Fire and Rescue Department in a statement, said the victims are aged between 31 and 46. The media was informed that an emergency call regarding the incident was received at 1.34pm., prompting a team from Tawau Fire and Rescue Station to rush to the location. The team, consisting of seven personnel and led by Operations Commander Usman Shahbudin arrived at the scene about 10 minutes later. Upon arrival, initial treatment was immediately administered to the victims before two of them were sent to the hospital by the fire department and the other two via ambulance.
