Relay For Life celebrates 40 years of honoring cancer survivors
WARREN, Ohio (WKBN) — The American Cancer Society celebrated 40 years of Relay For Life in Warren on Sunday afternoon.
People from Mahoning, Trumbull, and Columbiana counties joined in. In the past, each county had its own event, but this year they all came together at the Saint Demetrios Community Center in Warren.
The event honors cancer survivors and remembers those who have died from the disease. Survivors were recognized during a special lap.
Relay For Life has become the largest volunteer-based fundraiser in the world. Jen Snodgrass, a manager with the American Cancer Society, is hopeful about reaching this year's goal.
'Our goal is to raise $70,000. We're about $3,000 shy right now, which is super exciting, and so hopefully after today as well as some additional fundraising, we'll be able to hit our goal. I'm pretty confident we will. So, it's awesome that everyone here in Trumbull County are raising $70,000 for an awesome mission. So, it's really great to be out,' Snodgrass said.
Snodgrass said the money raised benefits the American Cancer Society with programs and services for those battling cancer and for cancer research.
