Oklahoma just outside top 10 in final USA TODAY Sports Women's Basketball Coaches Poll

Oklahoma just outside top 10 in final USA TODAY Sports Women's Basketball Coaches Poll The Oklahoma Sooners finished the 2024-2025 season in the Sweet 16, falling to the eventual national champion, UConn Huskies. It was a strong year for Jennie Baranczyk's crew in their first season in the SEC, but OU ran into one of the greatest to ever play the game in Paige Bueckers. Though they couldn't pull off the upset and advance to the Elite 8, the Sooners picked up several big-time wins along the way, including Top 25 victories over Louisville, Michigan, Tennessee, Alabama, and Kentucky. The Sooners knocked off Iowa in the NCAA Tournament in dominating fashion to advance to the Sweet 16. With their strong finish to the season, a run that included a stretch where the Oklahoma Sooners won nine games in a row spanning the end of the regular season and the SEC Tournament, OU landed just outside the top 10 in the final USA TODAY Sports Women's Basketball Coaches Poll. The Sooners were the fourth highest ranked SEC team coming in behind South Carolina at No. 2, No. 4 Texas, and No. 8 LSU. The Sooners just missed out on the top 10, one spot behind North Carolina State. The Wolfpack missed out on the Elite 8 as well, losing to LSU in the Sweet 16. For the Sooners, it was a season that could propel them to greater heights moving forward. OU will bring back four of five starters, including Raegan Beers, Peyton Verhulst, and Sahara Williams. The Sooners will also be add the No. 1 high school prospect in America, Aaliyah Chavez, who chose the Sooners over Texas, South Carolina, Texas Tech, and LSU. Though it wasn't quite the season the Sooners would have envisioned for themselves, their success in 2024-2025 helped set the bar higher moving forward. Social media reacts to Aaliyah Chavez's commitment to Oklahoma Sooners

The Oklahoma Sooners picked up a huge win on the recruiting trail, landing the No. 1 prospect in the nation and superstar Aaliyah Chavez. The Sooners earned her commitment over offers from Texas, South Carolina, LSU, and Texas Tech. It adds to the year that the Sooners have had on the recruiting trail, in the transfer portal, and on the basketball court as Jennie Baranczyk continues to build the Sooners into a women's basketball powerhouse. It's the type of addition that will keep the Sooners a threat to make the Sweet 16 every year but also push them into national title contention for the next four seasons. Along with what they've done on the court, the Sooners are showing they're a force to be reckoned with off the court as well. Aaliyah Chavez is a game changer and must-see television. She's a generational prospect that received well-deserved time on ESPN to make her announcement. ESPN led into the decision with discussion on USC women's basketball star Juju Watkin's injury, the return of Golden State star Jimmy Butler, Dallas Cowboys star edge rusher Micah Parson's contract discussion. That was the lead in to her decision. If there were a red carpet of top storylines to lead into a commitment decision, that would be it. ESPN rolled out the red carpet for Aaliyah Chavez, giving time to a future women's basketball star and highlighting just how big of a decision this was. Chavez choosing the Sooners potentially puts Oklahoma among the elite contenders in college basketball. It was a big day for Oklahoma Women's Basketball and for Jennie Baranczyk and here's how social media reacted to the decision. Social media reacts to Oklahoma Sooners win over Iowa Hawkeyes in NCAA Tournament

The Oklahoma Sooners came away with a dominant victory over the Iowa Hawkeyes on Monday afternoon. The 34-point win was the second-largest in program history and the largest margin of victory since 1995. Against her alma mater, head coach Jennie Baranczyk pressed all the right buttons for the Sooners, leading them to an emphatic statement win over one of the better programs in the nation. Despite falling behind in the early going, the Sooners used a 16-1 run to completely take control of the game and never looked back. Sahara Williams layup with just over three minutes left in the first quarter gave the Sooners a 12-10 lead and they would lead for the remainder of the game. Despite shooting just 11% from three, Oklahoma used their massive rebounding edge to pull out to an 11-point halftime lead. Oklahoma then put together a fantastic third quarter to all but seal the victory, outscoring the Hawkeyes by 14 points to lead by 25 going into the fourth quarter. The Sooners were so locked in during the final frame that they nearly led by 40 points over a team that's been to the final four in recent years.
