Social media reacts to Aaliyah Chavez's commitment to Oklahoma Sooners
The Oklahoma Sooners picked up a huge win on the recruiting trail, landing the No. 1 prospect in the nation and superstar Aaliyah Chavez. The Sooners earned her commitment over offers from Texas, South Carolina, LSU, and Texas Tech.
It adds to the year that the Sooners have had on the recruiting trail, in the transfer portal, and on the basketball court as Jennie Baranczyk continues to build the Sooners into a women's basketball powerhouse.
It's the type of addition that will keep the Sooners a threat to make the Sweet 16 every year but also push them into national title contention for the next four seasons. Along with what they've done on the court, the Sooners are showing they're a force to be reckoned with off the court as well.
Aaliyah Chavez is a game changer and must-see television. She's a generational prospect that received well-deserved time on ESPN to make her announcement. ESPN led into the decision with discussion on USC women's basketball star Juju Watkin's injury, the return of Golden State star Jimmy Butler, Dallas Cowboys star edge rusher Micah Parson's contract discussion. That was the lead in to her decision. If there were a red carpet of top storylines to lead into a commitment decision, that would be it. ESPN rolled out the red carpet for Aaliyah Chavez, giving time to a future women's basketball star and highlighting just how big of a decision this was.
Chavez choosing the Sooners potentially puts Oklahoma among the elite contenders in college basketball. It was a big day for Oklahoma Women's Basketball and for Jennie Baranczyk and here's how social media reacted to the decision.

It can't be said enough about the job Jennie Baranczyk did in recruiting Aaliyah Chavez. Texas was long thought to be the clear choice. And she a lot of big NIL offers, too. Unbelievable job selling the program and getting Chavez to Norman on Saturday.

UNC women's basketball team's top reserve earns Team USA Basketball invite
UNC women's basketball team's top reserve earns Team USA Basketball invite One of the UNC women's basketball team's top guards earned a pretty exclusive offseason honor. For the Red, White & Blue 🇺🇸 Congrats Lanie on earning an invite to USA Basketball's Women's U19 Trials! — Carolina Women's Basketball (@uncwbb) June 5, 2025 The UNC women's basketball team is fresh off one of its best seasons under head coach Courtney Banghart, advancing to the Sweet 16 for the second time in four seasons. A major portion of North Carolina's success came from its veteran trio of Alyssa Ustby, Maria Gakdeng and Lexi Donarski, who played their final year of college basketball. The Tar Heels welcomed a few high school recruits to Chapel Hill, while lucking out in the transfer portal. One of UNC's greatest additions was sixth woman Lanie Grant, the 2024 Virginia Gatorade Player of the Year. In two starts across 37 games played for North Carolina, Grant averaged 7.3 points per game (best amongst reserves). Just three months removed from her freshman season, Grant received some big news, earning an invite to the USA Basketball Women's U19 Trials on June 18. Grant, one of 27 athletes selected, has an opportunity to make the final, 12-player roster. The 2025 FIBA U19 Women's World Cup will take place July 12-20 in Brno, Czech Republic. Though she came off the bench for most of the Tar Heels' games last season, Grant delivered a major impact. Grant scored in double digits 11 times, netting a career-high 19 points during UNC's 79-75 win at Louisville on February 23. Grant will likely be asked to step into a starting role during North Carolina's upcoming campaign, replacing Lexi Donarski as a starting guard. The Tar Heels will have a younger, new-look roster, with Grant poised to take on a leadership role in just Year Two. Two Oklahoma softball players named to WCWS All-Tournament team
Two Oklahoma softball players named to WCWS All-Tournament team Sam and Ella. The two names go together like peanut butter and jelly. A fun coincidence, then, that Oklahoma pitcher Sam Landry and Sooners designated player Ella Parker were the two OU softball players named to the Women's College World Series All-Tournament team over the weekend. Oklahoma fell in the WCWS to eventual runner-up Texas Tech in the penultimate series of the tourney, carried there in large part by its ace pitcher and its best hitter. Parker went 7 for 17 in Oklahoma City with two home runs and four RBI. Her three-run walk-off homer in the Sooners' first WCWS game against Tennessee kept OU in the winner's bracket, eventually leading to an elimination of Oregon. Landry pitched in all four of Oklahoma's games in the tournament. She allowed seven runs over 24 innings while striking out 16 batters. In her 4 1/3 innings of relief against the Ducks, she gave up just three base-runners as the Sooners rallied to win. Oklahoma coach Patty Gasso expects to get Parker, a rising junior, back for another year in Norman, though Landry was selected No. 1 overall in the inaugural Athletes Unlimited Softball League draft. She signed a couple days after the Sooners were eliminated from the tournament.

An early look at the jersey numbers for Kentucky basketball
An early look at the jersey numbers for Kentucky basketball Mark Pope spent this offseason putting together a roster that many consider one of the country's best. They upgraded the defense, and brought in more high-level talents, adding them to a solid Freshman class, and a great group of returning players, including Otega Oweh, who removed his name from the NBA draft. The season is still a ways away, but there is plenty of excitement around the program. Pope took a squad that was cobbled together quickly to the Sweet 16 last season, so expectations are high. While fans wait for the season to get here, one of the fun parts of the summer is finding out the jersey numbers the players will wear. Kentucky hasn't released an official list yet, but there have been clues or reveals to many of them already. Here's a look at each player on the roster, and their expected number. These aren't official, and could be wrong, so take them with a grain of salt for now. Returning Players Otega Oweh Number- 00 There's no reason for Oweh to change his iconic number from last season. Fans are excited to see number 00 back on the court for his Senior season. Collin Chandler Number - 5 Chandler got better as the season wore on last year, and hit some big shots late in the season. He should be even better in year two. Trent Noah Number - 9 Noah is one of the home-grown talents on the team, and returns for his Sophomore season. His hustle and knack for making shots made him a fan favorite last year. Brandon Garrison Number - 10 The coaching staff is expecting big things from Garrison this season. He'll be one of the leaders on the team, and will get a chance to shine. The Freshmen Jasper Johnson Number - 2 If the number you've been wearing is available, you wear it. That's what Johnson, the talented guard recruit has done with the number two. Andrija Jelavic Number - 4 This is more of a prediction than fact, but Jelavic wears number four with his overseas team, and it's free, so it makes sense. Braydon Hawthorne Number - 22 Hawthorne was the last addition to the Kentucky roster, and a big recruiting win for Pope. Like Jasper Johnson, he wore #2 previously, so switching to 22 makes sense. Malachi Moreno Number - 24 Moreno will also stick with his high school number as a Wildcat. He is a multi-talented big man with loads of potential in Pope's offensive system. The Transfers Denzel Aberdeen Number - 1 It looks like Aberdeen will switch from 11 to 1 with the Wildcats. He was a big addition for Kentucky, and brings a multi-faceted skillset. Kam Williams Number - 3 This isn't official yet, but Williams wore number 3 at Tulane, and it's an open number, so it's likely that he'll keep it. He was Kentucky's first transfer commitment, and is a big-time shooter. Jaland Lowe Number - 15 Like Williams, keeping the number he's been wearing is likely for Lowe. He'll almost certainly be the starting point guard for the Wildcats, and looks to benefit from a more talented supporting cast. Jayden Quaintance Number - 21 Quaintance was number 21 at Arizona State, and will likely be number 21 at Kentucky. He is a potential superstar, and was a huge win for Pope and his staff. Mouhamed Dioubate Number - 23 This one is perhaps the most uncertain, but it has been reported that he'll take number 23. He wore number 10 at Alabama, but Garrison has that. Reece Potter Number - 33 Potter has worn numbers in the 30s in high school and at Miami (OH), so it's logical that he'll stay in that range. Number 33 is a great number if that's what he goes with.
