No. 5 North Carolina advances to Super Regionals with win over Oklahoma
No. 5 North Carolina advances to Super Regionals with win over Oklahoma Baseball season at Oklahoma is over. The Sooners saw their season come to an end Monday evening in a winner-take-all game against national No. 5 seed North Carolina in the NCAA Tournament, 14-4. OU had beaten the Tar Heels on Sunday to force one of the favorites for the national championship to Monday's brink. But UNC showed why it earned that fifth seed when it had to. North Carolina scored those 14 runs by pounding out 17 hits and drawing six walks against a depleted Oklahoma pitching staff. Coach Skip Johnson used seven pitchers Monday as he couldn't to go any of his usual weekend starters nor closer Dylan Crooks as the weekend's previous four games had left them exhausted. Reid Hensley, OU's starter, gave up the first five runs of the game, three of which came in the first inning. All three were unearned as a throwing on error on Kyle Branch extended North Carolina's initial time at the plate. Cleanup hitter Gavin Gallher reached and Luke Stevenson, who walked in the plate appearance before, advanced to second. The next two Tar Heels batters hit a double and a single to bring them home. OU responded with two runs in the second inning, but North Carolina tacked on four in the third and another in the fifth to take a commanding lead into the late innings. Easton Carmichael was the only Oklahoma player to collect two hits. His ninth-inning single provided an RBI and Jason Walk's seventh-inning home run scored OU's third run. Every OU pitcher but one allowed at least one run. North Carolina advanced to the Super Regionals for the second straight year and third time in the last four seasons. The Sooners finished the season with a record of 38-22 overall, having made the NCAA Tournament for a fourth year in a row.

Oklahoma softball eliminates Oregon from Women's College World Series
Oklahoma softball eliminates Oregon from Women's College World Series If the cliche fits: survive and advance. The Oklahoma softball team did just that Sunday night in Oklahoma City as the Sooners knocked Oregon out of the Women's College World Series with a 4-1 win. OU advanced to play Texas Tech on Monday at 6 p.m. If the Sooners win that game, the two will meet again Tuesday in a game that will determine which team plays for the national championship. Sunday's game was all about Cydney Sanders. The OU first bagger popped two home runs, the first of which, a two-run shot, broke a 1-1 tie in the third inning, to lead the Sooners to victory. She hit her second in the fifth inning, a solo shot, to give Oklahoma a 4-1 lead. Both times she took the ball deep over the left field fence. Oklahoma was in position to take the lead after Isabela Emerling hit a solo home run in the second inning to tie the game. OU starter Kierston Deal gave up a solo shot herself in the top of the frame that gave Oregon the game's first lead. Sooners ace Sam Landry entered in the third inning and was on point. Landry worked the final 4 1/3 innings, allowing just two hits and a walk while striking out five on 65 pitches, keeping her fresh enough to likely pitch two games Monday if OU needs them. Oklahoma's win Sunday clinched a ninth straight year in the WCWS semifinals. If the Sooners beat Texas Tech in the first game Monday night, the two would meet again immediately after.

Oklahoma baseball eliminates Nebraska from NCAA Tournament
Oklahoma tied a season high with 18 hits and stayed alive in the NCAA Tournament during the early afternoon hours Sunday, rolling Nebraska, 17-1, and eliminating the Cornhuskers. OU will get a couple hours rest before playing another elimination game Sunday night against the No. 5 national seed, North Carolina. The Tar Heels beat Oklahoma on Saturday night, setting up the Sooners' doubleheader. If the Chapel Hill Regional hosts win that game, they advance to the Super Regionals. If the Tar Heels lose, OU and UNC will meet again Monday in a winner-take-all finale. Advertisement In Sunday's first game, Oklahoma put up crooked numbers on the scoreboard in four different innings. The Sooners struck for three runs in the first inning, six in the third, four in the sixth and two in the eighth. Each of Nebraska's first five pitchers allowed at least one run. Eight different OU hitters had at least two base knocks. Easton Carmichael and Sam Christiansen were most impressive. Carmichael finished 2 for 5 with a walk, two home runs, four RBI and three runs. Christiansen went 3 for 5 with a walk, two doubles, two RBI and three runs. On the other side, Oklahoma starter Cade Crossland pitched perhaps his best game of the season. The right-hander worked seven innings of one-run ball, allowing just five hits and two walks while striking out nine. The lone run Crossland allowed was unearned. Oklahoma and North Carolina will meet in Sunday night's game at 5 p.m. CT. This article originally appeared on Sooners Wire: Oklahoma baseball beat Nebraska in Chapel Hill Regional in NCAA Tourney

North Carolina beats Oklahoma in NCAA Tournament
North Carolina beats Oklahoma in NCAA Tournament Oklahoma's baseball season is now one loss away from ending. The Sooners fell Saturday to No. 5 overall seed North Carolina in the second round of the Chapel Hill Regional in the NCAA Tournament, 11-5. Oklahoma will next play Nebraska, a team OU beat on Friday in the first round, on Sunday in an elimination game on Sunday at 11 a.m. CT. North Carolina touched up Oklahoma ace Kyson Witherspoon for a season-high nine runs against. Witherspoon, a projected top-10 pick in this summer's MLB Draft, gave up six runs in the first inning as the Tar Heels batted around. UNC collected five straight hits, including three run-scoring singles and a home run, all with two outs to take command. Oklahoma's bats took too long to come around. The Sooners scored runs in each of the final four innings, but the hole was too large. OU had just three hits through the first five innings and trailed 9-0 before finally scoring. Sam Christiansen hit an RBI double and Jaxon Willits scored on a groundout for OU's first two runs. But North Carolina, which scored in five of the eight innings in which it came to the plate, responded with a run itself in the bottom of the inning. When OU scored again in the seventh, the Tar Heels matched them again, keeping any rallies at bay. Witherspoon finshed having worked just four innings, allowing the nine runs on 10 hits and three walks. Dasan Harris picked up three hits to lead the Sooners, while Trey Gambill, Easton Carmichael and Jaxon Willits each had two apiece. Oklahoma beat Nebraska on Friday, 7-4. Cade Crossland is expected to start Sunday's rematch.
