Father Stephen Brandow: A Life of Service, Faith, and Healing

Jennifer Pierce Contributor Hear this story Stephen Brandow, also known as Father Brandow, is a Catholic priest and clinical chaplain with the Alexandria VA Healthcare System in Louisiana. Ordained in 1996, Father Brandow has been engaged in numerous roles throughout the Diocese of Alexandria, including associate pastor in several parishes. He holds a bachelor's degree in social work, a bachelor's degree in liberal arts, and a Master of Divinity (MDiv) from the Graduate School of Theology at Notre Dame Seminary. Father Brandow's entry into healthcare was an unexpected one. Having worked in medical administration within the system before being ordained, he returned to serve when asked by his bishop, feeling as if it was divine intervention. Being a chaplain, he holds a unique component that lends to addressing the spiritual and emotional needs of veterans, including reintegration and PTSD. His role has evolved over the years, and he has become a critical part of patient care teams, providing veterans with stability and the emotional support they need. Father Brandow emphasizes listening more than speaking, helping veterans to navigate difficult life questions. Father Brandow finds great joy in his work and challenges individuals to whom chaplaincy has been offered to consider the calling. He views chaplaincy as a way to offer his gifts to others in service. Despite the uncertainty, he believes people are never alone when they have faith. His impact extends beyond the VA's walls, touching lives throughout the Diocese of Alexandria. He continues to serve with dedication and compassion, inspiring others to listen and respond to their own callings with their whole selves.

How Travis Rush is Reinventing Health Screening with Reperio Health

Jennifer Pierce Contributor Many people wait until they are sick before they visit the doctor. Travis Rush, founder and CEO of Reperio Health, wants to change how people view healthcare by emphasizing the importance of preventive measures. Reperio Health offers at-home preventive care screenings with instant results, allowing people to take charge of their well-being. People often avoid preventive care because of the cost and inaccessibility of seeing a doctor for wellness screenings. Reperio Health, however, uses patented technology paired with a mobile app and FDA-cleared devices to bring a consumer-grade experience to annual preventive screenings. In less than 30 minutes, the screenings assess key health indicators like cholesterol, glucose levels, and blood pressure, allowing users to stay informed and on top of their health, all from the comfort of their own homes. After completing the screenings, Reperio Health virtually connects users with a healthcare professional to review the results. Using AI, Reperio summarizes five years of health history so doctors can better understand actions needed to improve the user's well-being. Reperio Health envisions a world where everyone can easily manage their health without waiting for costly lab results. The health kit includes everything needed to complete wellness screenings and is mailed directly to the user's home. The company hopes to offer medication delivery as part of its future expansions.
