Coldplay frontman Chris Martin plays surprise gig at community pub in Sowerby Bridge
Coldplay frontman Chris Martin has surprised fans with a hour-long gig at a small community pub in West Yorkshire.
The 42-year-old turned up unannounced at The Puzzle Hall Inn in Sowerby Bridge on Thursday night and treated crowds to hits like Viva La Vida and Yellow on a mixture of piano and acoustic guitar.
Between songs he had conversations with the crowd, dedicating one song to a fan who was celebrating their birthday.
Jeremy Meadowcraft, who was at the gig, posted on Facebook: "It was an intimate, personal, wonderful chance moment and what a wonderful man he is.
"I watched him exit gracefully, from the baying crowd, taking time to chat to every single fan, as he worked his way out. Not wallowing in selfies but being genuine, kind and patient.
"What a guy and what a night to remember on the eve of my birthday."
The intimate gig came ahead of two stadium concerts at Craven Park Stadium in Hull next week as part of Coldplay's World Tour.
Tickets for both gigs have completely sold out.
Jodie Smith saw Chris Martin in Sowerby Bridge and posted on Instagram: "Money couldn't buy that experience we had last night.
