More awareness of apprenticeships as career route needed
The Senedd's economy, trade and rural affairs committee has published its Apprenticeship Pathways report, which urges the Welsh Government to work with schools, colleges and employers to raise awareness of vocational education.
The Electrical Contractors' Association (ECA) contributed evidence to the report, emphasising the need for a stronger focus on vocational training to support the economy and workforce development.
Jeremy Parkin, vice president of the ECA and director of Powerlink Electrical Services Ltd in Ebbw Vale, said: "We welcome the Apprenticeship Pathways report promoting apprenticeships as a respected and high-quality career pathway.
"Apprenticeships are the preferred route for training the skilled workforce needed to meet the demands of our industry.
"We urge the Welsh Government to heed the Committee's recommendations to embed apprenticeships as an essential part of the Welsh social and economic fabric."
The report also calls for faster development of a vocational education and training strategy.
