Jun. 2—A Harrison Twp. woman was sentenced to probation for her part in a robbery and shooting in 2024. Crystal Carpenter, 36, was sentenced by Montgomery County Steven Dankof to up to five years of probation, on the condition that she have no contact with the victim or co-defendants Jerrell and Jermaine Harbor, as well as completing up to 500 hours of community service. Carpenter and her co-defendants were charged after an incident Nov. 30, 2024, when Montgomery County sheriff's deputies were called to Miami Valley Hospital around 4:26 p.m. for a shooting victim. The shooting victim said he med Carpenter in the 2400 block of Rugby Road to sell her marijuana, after which two men approached his vehicle with guns drawn and robbed him, according to an affidavit filed in Vandalia Municipal Court. The men reportedly dragged the victim out of the vehicle and shot him in the back as he ran away. The victim's brother, who was in the area but did not witness the shooting, took him to the hospital, records said. Video from the area showed a Chevrolet Impala pull up to the man's car, followed by a woman getting out, making a transaction and getting back in the car, court documents said. The Impala then pulls out of view and two man approach from that direction with guns drawn. The video shows the men drag the victim out of his vehicle take his bag, shoot him as he ran away, the flee in the Impala, the affidavit said. Hours later around 8:30 p.m., deputies found the Impala and tried to pull it over on North Dixie Drive near Bartley Road, but it fled, records said. Tire deflation spikes were deployed in the 5400 block of North Dixie Drive, and the Impala came to a stop near Republic Drive. Carpenter and the two Harbors were arrested. Jermaine Harbor was sentenced to four years and nine months to six years and three months for aggravated robbery, failure to comply and having weapons while under disability, according to court records. Jerrell Harbor was sentenced to four to six years for a felonious assault and aggravated robbery conviction.

Apr. 17—The third and final defendant in a Harrison Twp. armed robbery where a man was shot in the back in November has pleaded guilty. Crystal Carpenter, 35, pleaded guilty to one count each of aggravated robbery and felonious assault in Montgomery County Common Pleas Court Wednesday. A second felonious assault and aggravated robbery charge were dismissed. She is scheduled to be sentenced on April 30. Around 4:26 p.m. on Nov. 30, Montgomery County sheriff's deputies responded to Miami Valley Hospital for a shooting victim. The victim said he met Carpenter in the 2400 block of Rugby Road to sell her marijuana, according to Vandalia Municipal Court records. "After completing the transaction, two males approached his vehicle with guns drawn and robbed him of his black Nike bag," an affidavit read. The men reportedly dragged him out of the vehicle and shot him in the back as he ran away. His brother was in the area, but did not witness the shooting, and took him to the hospital. Video footage from the area showed a Chevrolet Impala pulling up to the man's car and a woman getting out to make a transaction before getting back into the car, according to court records. The Impala then pulls out of view and two males approach from that direction with guns drawn. The video captured the pair dragging the man out of his vehicle and taking his bag before shooting him as he ran away, according to the affidavit. The pair then fled in the Impala. Around 8:30 p.m., deputies located the Impala and attempted a traffic stop on North Dixie Drive near Bartley Road, but the car fled. Tire deflation spikes were used in the 5400 block of North Dixie Drive and the Impala came to a stop near Republic Drive, according to court records. Carpenter, as well as two co-defendants, Jermaine Harbor and Jerrell Harbor, were detained. Jermaine Harbor was sentenced to four years and nine months to six years and three months for aggravated robbery, failure to comply and having weapons while under disability, according to court records. Jerrell Harbor was sentenced to four to six years for a felonious assault and aggravated robbery conviction.

Mar. 27—Two men who were accused along with a Harrison Twp. woman of robbing and shooting a man following a drug deal and then fleeing from law enforcement last fall in Harrison Twp. were sentenced to prison Wednesday after pleading guilty in the case. Jermaine and Jerrell Harbor were each sentenced by Montgomery County Common Pleas Court Judge Steven Dankof to four years in prison. Jermaine Harbor also had his driver's license suspended for three years. Jerrell Harbor, 37, of Jefferson Twp., pleaded guilty Wednesday to one count each of aggravated robbery and felonious assault, while Jermaine Harbor, 23, of Kettering, pleaded guilty to one count each of aggravated robbery, having weapons while under disability and failure to comply with the order or signal of a police officer. The Harbors were charged alongside Crystal Carpenter, 35, of robbing a man after buying marijuana from him. According to an affidavit filed in Vandalia Municipal Court, at about 4:30 p.m. Nov. 30, 2024, Montgomery County Sheriff's deputies responded to Miami Valley Hospital and the 2700 block of Rugby Road near Golfview Avenue for a reported shooting. At the hospital, deputies spoke to the victim, who said that he was in his car in front of a house on Rugby Road when a woman he knew from Snapchat bought marijuana from him, the affidavit said. After the sale, he said two men approached his vehicle with guns drawn, robbed him of his bag and dragged him out of his vehicle. He then ran and was shot in the back, he said. A family member who didn't see the shooting took him to the hospital, court documents said. On Rugby Road, deputies said they found shell casings and blood on the north side of the road. Court documents said the shooting also was caught on video. The video showed a car pulling up to the victim's vehicle, a woman getting out of the back and making a transaction with the victim, then getting back in the car, investigators said. The car then pulls out of view but two men, later identified as Jerrell and Jermaine Harbor, come back into frame with guns drawn and approach the victim's car, the affidavit said. The two men rob the victim, and when he runs Jermaine fires a gun in the air before both chase the victim out of frame, documents said. Investigators said the victim was then shot in the back and the men fled in the car. The suspect vehicle was identified on a Flock camera as it fled, the affidavit said. At about 8:30 p.m. that day, deputies found the suspect vehicle and tried to stop it on North Dixie Drive near Bartley Road in Harrison Twp., documents said, but it fled, pursued by law enforcement. Tire deflation devices were used during the chase, and the vehicle finally stopped near North Dixie Drive and Republic Drive. Investigators said the Harbors and Carpenter were arrested and matched the description of the people in the video. Deputies executing a search warrant on the vehicle found a black bag containing a wallet with the victim's ID and credit cards, the affidavit said. Carpenter is scheduled for trial April 21 on two counts of aggravated robbery and two counts of felonious assault, all of which have three-year firearm specifications.
