BGT star suffered disastrous injury before semi-final
Britain's Got Talent semi-finalist Jerry Pop managed to break his ankle on the basketball court just weeks before his big moment on Saturday, May 24. The 13-year-old street dancer revealed his almost catastrophic injury during the VT that aired prior to the opening act of the night. He was ultimately left with around three weeks of practise time before facing off against the other performers hoping to make the final, and found solace in watching videos of past BGT champions when the cast was still on his leg. Speaking to the BGT film crew, Jerry began by reminiscing about his "amazing" audition and the adoring Blackpool crowd. "It was the best feeling in the world. I've been working so hard for this but then the worst thing happened: I broke my ankle playing basketball and I couldn't move for weeks," he said. I'd love to do as well as they did, go on tours, put on shows all around the world. "I haven't had long to prepare but tonight is gonna be the biggest performance of my life, I'm determined to still put on a good show for everyone." All five judges - Simon Cowell, KSI, Bruno Tonioli, Amanda Holden and Alesha Dixon - ruled that he'd done just that, too, with the former expressing his "respect" for Jerry. "Well, well, well... that's how you do it on the semi-final. The song choices are brilliant, your personality is off the chart," said Cowell. Once the public vote had closed, it was announced that Binita had made it to next weekend's grand final for a chance to do her thing infront of the royal family at the Royal Variety Performance. "I feel very good and I'm gonna do my best for the finals!" she smiled. Armed with this week's Golden Buzzer, KSI smashed his hand down on it for magician Harry Moulding earlier in the episode. Having promised to create a "moment of real magic" for one lucky audience member, he didn't disappoint at the crescendo of his routine, which ended with a beautifully crafted wedding proposal between Jess and her boyfriend Harry. He'd taken part in a pre-recorded film for the latest magic show and turned up behind Jess on one knee. It went super smoothly and the soon-to-be finalist gave them both a big squeeze on stage. Commiserations to CJ Emmons, Jackass wannabes Lazy Generation, Manho Han, Red Panda, and Han & Fran. The final of Britain's Got Talent airs next Saturday (May 31) on ITV1 and ITVX.

Opening the night were dancer Jerry Pop and vocalist CJ Emmons, both delivering stellar performances despite facing health adversities in the lead-up to their spotlight moment. Jerry disclosed a setback in his BGT VT, sharing that he sustained an ankle fracture while playing basketball. This mishap led to less rehearsal time and a need to absorb dance routines from the sidelines. At the conclusion of his routine, Jerry admitted that his medical boot was removed just two to three weeks prior to his performance this evening, reports the Mirror. CJ, filled with emotion after belting out James Brown's 'It's A Man's Man's Man's World', confided in presenters Ant and Dec about his recent brush with mortality. With visible tears, CJ opened up about his ordeal. He expressively recounted to Ant and Dec: "Two weeks ago I was in the hospital having life threatening surgery," adding, "I fought for that, and I'm fighting for this. I want this so bad." Earlier this week, the star disclosed that he was recuperating from gallbladder surgery. "They cut into my abdominal wall and every time after that, it's been hurting to sing. But my doctor's like, 'keep singing, strengthen it, strengthen it, and it's going to get better.' So there's still a bit of pain. But I can tell it's getting stronger and stronger," he shared. This revelation followed a show-stopping performance that had the audience urging guest judge KSI to utilise his Golden Buzzer privileges to fast-track the star directly to the final. However, the YouTuber chose to reserve his power, later awarding it to magician Harry. Nonetheless, Amanda Holden reassured the performer that he needn't worry as the public would undoubtedly rally behind him. This year, fans have had to exercise more patience than usual to discover which acts have advanced to the final due to a scheduling reshuffle. Typically, the ITV talent show would broadcast the semi-finals consecutively over one week. But that's not the only alteration. For the first time in its history, the show has incorporated the Golden Buzzer feature in the semi-final. Originally, this feature was employed during auditions to automatically advance an act to the semi-finals, bypassing the shortlisting process. However, this year, the judges wield more influence than ever before. Each week, one of them is granted the authority to propel one act directly to the final, with the other finalist being determined by public vote. This evening marked the final appearance of the Golden Buzzer for this year, with future decisions now resting entirely in the hands of the audience. Dance LED troupe The Blackouts wrote their names into the Britain's Got Talent annals during the inaugural semi-final by becoming the first act to receive the Golden Buzzer at this advanced stage of the competition. It was a momentous occasion for Amanda Holden as she exercised her privilege to make an exceptionally challenging choice. "Your audition took our breath away and this evening, it was even better," Amanda confessed before hitting the pivotal buzzer. Tonight, dancer Jerry Pop and singer CJ Emmons were the first two acts to take to the stage. The two smashed their performances, but it hasn't been an easy few weeks for either acts, as they'd both been hit with health struggles just weeks before their live semi-final. In his BGT VT, Jerry Pop revealed that he had broken his leg - therefore, hadn't had as much time to rehearse at he'd like. At the end of his performance, he revealed he only had his boot taken off 2-3 weeks before his performance tonight. Next, CJ was overwhelmed with emotion after his rendition of James Brown's 'It's A Man's Man's Man's World'. With tears in his eyes, CJ told hosts Ant and Dec that just two weeks ago, he was in hospital fighting for his life. Earlier in the week the star revealed he was recovering from gallbladder surgery. This year, fans have had to wait even longer to find out which acts had made it through to the final due to a schedule switch up. Usually, the ITV talent show would air the semi-finals consecutively over one week. It's not the only change though. This year, for the first time ever the show has introduced the Golden Buzzer in the semi-final. The feature was Initially used in the auditions to put an act straight through to the semi's without having to be a part of the short listing process. However, this year, the judges have more power than ever as each week, one of them was given the power to send one act straight through to the final. The other is decided by public vote. Tonight was the last time viewers will see the Golden Buzzer this year, with the final decision being left completely in the publics hand. It was Dance LED group The Blackouts who made BGT history during the first semi-final - as the first act to receive the Golden Buzzer at that stage. Amanda Holden was the first judge to be given the honour, as she made a very difficult decision. "Your audition took our breath away and this evening, it was even better," Amanda said before pressing the all important buzzer. "I cannot wait to see what you do in the final," Amanda exclaimed, as she joined them to celebrate on stage.
