Morocco champions Two-State Solution as essential path to lasting peace, FM says

Morocco, guided by its historical responsibility and as chair of the Jerusalem Committee, considers the two-state solution the key to ensuring security and stability in the region, Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccan Expatriates Nasser Bourita stated Tuesday in Rabat. Speaking at the opening of the fifth meeting of the International Coalition for the Implementation of the Two-State Solution—held in Morocco in partnership with the Kingdom of the Netherlands under the theme «Sustaining Momentum for the Peace Process: Lessons Learned, Success Stories, Next Steps», Bourita affirmed that the two-state solution «is the only option without losers, as everyone benefits: Palestinians gain freedom and dignity, Israelis their security and stability, and the entire region its prospects for development». He stressed, «The two-state solution is not an empty slogan or a diplomatic bargaining tool, but a moral obligation and a realistic political option that cannot be postponed». Bourita added, «There are those who lose from this solution: extremists on all sides who thrive on conflict and exist only in its shadow. They trade slogans and claim to support the Palestinian people without offering even a sack of rice, preferring opposition to responsibility». He emphasized that the two-state solution is a historic option endorsed by the international community decades ago. Despite crises, it remains the only viable path toward a just and lasting settlement, enabling the establishment of an independent Palestinian state based on the June 4, 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital. The minister recalled that Morocco, under the leadership of its kings, from King Hassan II to His Majesty King Mohammed VI, Chairman of the Jerusalem Committee, has remained steadfast in this commitment. Moroccan diplomacy has worked calmly and effectively to promote the chances of a just peace. Bourita highlighted that the King, in his address at the last Arab Summit in Baghdad, outlined key steps to break the current impasse: immediate cessation of military operations; addressing West Bank aggressions including demolitions and forced displacement; ensuring humanitarian aid access; supporting UNRWA; and launching an integrated reconstruction plan supervised by the Palestinian Authority with Arab and international oversight, aligned with the last Cairo Summit decisions. «But let us be clear: no economic aid can replace a political solution. We seek not temporary fixes but a radical remedy to the conflict», he stressed, urging enrichment of the «Compendium» Morocco plans to present jointly with the Netherlands. He concluded that convening this meeting amid the tragic situation in the Palestinian territories, especially the ongoing Israeli aggression in Gaza, is more than a diplomatic event, it is a message of hope and a practical step to reactivate the two-state solution through concrete measures. «At this critical historical moment», the minister emphasized, «we believe our coalition is among the most promising initiatives to revitalize peace efforts by proposing concrete steps that advance the political process and create the momentum necessary to establish the two-state solution as the only path to a just, comprehensive, and lasting peace for the Palestinian cause».

Arab Foreign Ministers Laud Morocco's Role in Jerusalem and Palestinian Cause

Rabat — Morocco's role in defending the Palestinian cause keeps attracting praise at international political gatherings. On Wednesday, Arab foreign ministers lauded Morocco's critical role in supporting Jerusalem. Convening in Cairo for the 163rd session of the Arab League Council at the ministerial level, the Arab officials specifically commended the Jerusalem Committee, chaired by King Mohammed VI, for its ongoing efforts to protect the holy city amid Israeli violations. Morocco's leadership on Jerusalem Arab foreign ministers strongly endorsed the work of the Jerusalem Committee's body, Bayt Mal Al-Quds Agency. The Arab Ministerial Committee tasked with confronting illegal Israeli policies in Jerusalem held its ninth meeting on the sidelines of the session, where members recalled the significance of King Mohammed VI's leadership on Jerusalem issues. Ministers commended the agency's concrete actions supporting Jerusalem and its residents. The committee's work has become increasingly vital amid ongoing Israeli violations in occupied East Jerusalem, which Arab officials condemned in their resolution on 'Israeli Developments and Violations in Occupied Jerusalem.' Libyan peace process In a separate resolution, Arab foreign ministers recalled the central importance of the 2015 Skhirat Agreement as the general framework to achieve a political resolution for the ongoing crisis in Libya. The ministers expressed support for the United Nations mission in Libya, working under Security Council resolutions to facilitate a comprehensive political settlement based on Libya's Skhirat Political Agreement. Morocco has consistently pushed for an inter-Libyan dialogue to solve the ongoing political crisis, firmly rejecting any foreign interference in the issue. Morocco's human rights leadership On Morocco's leading role in human rights, Arab foreign ministers welcomed the North African country's election as president of the Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions (GANHRI). This achievement came during the Alliance's General Assembly held in March on the sidelines of the 58th session of the Human Rights Council in Geneva, further strengthening the country's international position on human rights issues. Morocco's election has previously received support from GANHRI's other three regional groups, confirming the country's position as a leader in defending human rights. Upcoming Arab Summit The ministerial meeting also discussed several political, economic, and social issues, along with developments in current Arab and international issues, particularly regarding Palestine. Officials reviewed arrangements for the upcoming Arab Summit scheduled for May 17 in Baghdad. A delegation headed by Morocco's Ambassador to Egypt Mohammed Ait Ouali and the country's Permanent Representative to the Arab League represented the North African country at the meeting. The delegation also included Abdelali Al-Jahiz, Head of the Arab and Islamic Organizations Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, and Hisham Wald Al-Salai, Deputy Representative of Morocco to the Arab League.
