Goodlettsville Board of Commissioners set to consider RiverGate Mall economic plan

GOODLETTSVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — City leaders in Goodlettsville are set to pass a major economic plan related to the complete revitalization effort of the RiverGate Mall property. As part of the plan to completely overhaul the northern Davidson County property, Metro Nashville leaders passed a substantial economic plan related to the deal. The plan estimates nearly $100 million in annual earnings and millions more in tax revenues for the community. RiverGate Mall redevelopment could make multimillion-dollar impact in Nashville Because the property is also located in Goodlettsville and Sumner County, the Goodlettsville Board of Commissioners must also approve all the plans Metro has for the property. They will have a special called meeting on Thursday, May 29, in order to go over the proposed economic plan and give their stamp of approval on it. The conceptual site plan for the RiverGate Mall property redevelopment includes a number of components, such as multifamily housing, townhomes for sale, senior housing, retail, restaurant, sports and entertainment facilities, medical offices, general offices and hotels. The goal will be an 'integrated mixed-use community' that will 'promote significant economic development,' according to Metro documents. In addition to considering the economic plan, Goodlettsville commissioners will also consider a tax increment financing plan, or a TIF, as part of the overall proposal for the city. Neighborhood News: Stories impacting your community | Read More According to the Tennessee Comptroller of the Treasury's office, TIF projects allow cities to pay for community improvement projects using future tax revenues. TIFs essentially allow development projects to pay for themselves over time, such as by increased property tax values for specific developments. Commissioner Jesse Walker told News 2 he was 'encouraged' by the proposal before the commission. 'Throughout my campaign, one of the most common concerns I heard from Goodlettsville residents was the need to revitalize the RiverGate area. I'm encouraged to see a viable proposal on the table and look forward to working closely with the developer, and Metro Council, to ensure that any project brought forward serves the best interests of our entire community,' he said in a statement. 'A development of this scale has the potential to bring a transformational effect to RiverGate, and I'm committed to making sure we get it right.' The board of commissioners will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 29, at City Hall – Massie Chambers. Do you have news happening in your neighborhood? Annual Career Day held at Fayette Elementary School

VIGO COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Earlier this week, Fayette Elementary School held its annual career day for 3rd through 5th grade students. The elementary school invited those of all career fields to come and speak, show demonstrations, and conduct activities with the students. WTWO/WAWV's very own Chief Meteorologist Jesse Walker, and Julia Prickett were in attendance to talk about all things weather with the students. Fayette Elementary School Counselor Monica Tener-Smith, spoke about how crucial it is for the students to see and learn from those in a variety of fields. 'Many parents and community organizations come in and talk to the kids about their careers,' said Tener-Smith. '(Students) get to see people just ordinary people. They tell them what their everyday life is like, show them the tools, and the things they use.' There were over 30 careers represented at the career day including radiologists, realtors, engineers, meteorologists, and nurses. With the recent Indiana diploma changes, the Fayette Elementary School Counselor mentions how important it is to educate the students for their future. 'Indiana requires that we talk about it from kindergarten on up to 5th grade. In 9th grade, they are going to have to narrow down from all the possibilities down to a pathway. We talk about it as a journey. You've got to go down the right road to get to the right place. You can't go down the wrong road and expect to be what you want to be… so you have to make a choice,' said Tener-Smith. Fayette Elementary School has held its annual Career Day for over 10 years, every spring. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. How to stay prepped for severe weather: Chief Meteorologist Jesse Walker weighs in

FARMERSBURG, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — This week is Severe Weather Preparedness Week in Indiana, and even though the temperatures outside are nice and warm, it's important to stay vigilant for severe weather conditions. That's why for the next several days, the National Weather Service is working with local and state governments to inform people of the dangers of severe weather. IN Governor announces Severe Weather Preparedness Week During Severe Weather Preparedness Week it would be a good time to make sure your family has a plan in place for all types of events. Here are some tips about the importance of being prepared for severe weather from WTWO/WAWV Chief Meteorologist Jesse Walker. Walker started his discussion on the terminology of tornado notification. The reason for this is that there is often a misunderstanding between a tornado watch and a tornado warning. First there is a tornado watch, which means that the weather forecasted has favorable conditions that would make a tornado likely to appear. You can remember this a little easier by knowing if its a watch you should 'watch out' for a tornado. When a tornado warning is in effect, it means that someone has spotted a tornado, either on the radar or storm spotter. On rare occasions, a tornado emergency can also be issued. Walker said tornado emergencies are reserved for when a particularly large tornado is confirmed and headed for a populated area. Local school recognizes Severe Weather Preparedness Week Walker also went into what to do in case of a tornado. Walker said the easiest way to stay safe is to remember low and inside. The best course of action is to go indoors and head to the lowest part of the building. Also, small inside rooms such as hallways, closets, and bathrooms are places to get to, but the best place is a basement. Walker also added that it's good to stay away from windows, doors, and outside walls. Walker also had on screen that it's good to cover yourself in blankets or a mattress for extra protection from the elements. Walker ended the discussion by stating that we could have some strong to severe thunderstorms coming in on Friday. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
