State Democrats roll out endorsements in Virginia
The Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee (DLCC) rolled out a slate of new target districts in Virginia ahead of November's House of Delegates elections. The committee is targeting the 82nd, 22nd, 71st and 41st state House districts. Democratic candidate Jessica Anderson is seeking to unseat Anne Ferrell Tata (R) in the 82nd district, while Democrat Elizabeth Guzman is running against state Rep. Ian Lovejoy (R) in the 22nd state House district. In the 71st state House district, Democrat Jessica Anderson is seeking to unseat state Rep. Amanda Batten (R) in the 71st district, while Democrat Lily Franklin is running against incumbent Chris Obenshain (R). The Hill was the first outlet to report on the new slate of target districts. 'These four returning Spotlight candidates are mounting strong challenges against unpopular Republicans who have rubber-stamped Trump's reckless agenda that's tanking the economy and threatening jobs,' said the group's president Heather Williams. State Democrats in Virginia and across the country are holding the line against extremism in Washington. All eyes should be on the commonwealth as competitive campaigns ramp up and voters prepare to hold Republicans accountable for their extremism this November.' Earlier this month, the DLCC announced it was investing seven figures in the battle to keep the Democratic majority in Virginia's House of Delegates. The committee made the announcement in its 'Roadmap to Victory in Virginia' memo, which included its first batch of House of Delegates target races in 2025. The initial target list includes the 21st, 65th, 84th, and 97th House of Delegates races. Additionally, the committee announced it is adding the state's lieutenant governor's race to its target map. The lieutenant governor could play a pivotal role in casting tie-breaking votes in the state Senate, which this year is not on the ballot.
