Why Future Marvel TV Shows Will Be Less Connected To MCU Movies

Kevin Feige, the head of Marvel Studios, delved into the company's plans for movies and TV shows during a recent interaction with a select group of journalists. In recent years, the studio has encountered a variety of issues with its projects. Feige offered details on how they intend to tackle them during the above-mentioned conversation with the media. Kevin Feige explains new MCU shows will be more independent of Marvel movies Feige spoke to the media at the Burbank HQ of Marvel Studios and discussed the plans they have for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. When he ultimately focused on Marvel TV, he disclosed that they would have less connection with the MCU movies going forward. Feige also mentioned that the studio will produce around three movies and often only one live-action TV show every year. 'Making two or three movies a year, some years it will be one, some years it will be three…We'll be down to a single live-action show a year,' he stated. (via Deadline) The executive clarified that these TV shows will have little overlap with the movies, so that the audience wouldn't need to watch everything to enjoy a given MCU project and understand what is happening in it. Feige used shows such as Netflix's Daredevil and Jessica Jones and ABC's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and Agent Carter as examples, noting how small their connection to the mainstream MCU was. 'I think allowing a TV show to be a TV show is what we're returning to,' Feige said. (via Variety) He also made it clear that the events of Thunderbolts*, where a considerable portion of the New York population was turned into shadowy figures, would not have any impact on Daredevil: Born Again Season 2, which will also be set in the Big Apple. Earlier in the conversation, Feige noted that the issues that Marvel Studios have encountered in recent years were due to an overabundance of MCU projects, and not because the audience was experiencing superhero fatigue. 'For the first time ever, quantity trumped quality,' Feige admitted, referring to the post-Endgame era of the MCU. Originally reported by Tamal Kundu on SuperHeroHype. JESSICA JONES Star Krysten Ritter Talks About Returning to the Role in DAREDEVIL: BORN AGAIN Season 2 and Having to Keep It a Secret — GeekTyrant

Krysten Ritter made her Marvel debut as Jessica Jones in the Netflix series that ran for three seasons before Disney+ took over the Marvel properties and the shows fizzled out. Now that Jones' co-Defender, Matt Murdock aka Daredevil, is back in action in the series Daredevil: Born Again , fans are finally getting what they've been asking for with Ritter's return in season 2. Ritter has been asked nonstop about whether she'd be seen in the new series for the last few years, and she had to play coy, but it turns out that she knew all along, and has had to keep it a secret. While promoting her latest project, the series Dexter: Resurrection , Ritter chatted about the situation on the Bingeworthy podcast for The Playlist. She reflected on the torturous time during which she had to hide the return of Jones: "Keeping it a secret has been torture. I'd known for almost two years, and it's a long time. A long time. It's either been talked about, in the works, or some state for a long time. 'So, keeping that secret and keeping the enthusiasm and waiting until the [Marvel] upfronts to announce it, it was like, when it was finally out, I was like, 'Oh my God!' 'I'm always pretending I'm not in New York… I was like, 'If it gets out, it's not because of me, because I have kept the secret!' It's just really special and exciting. And the team is amazing, and I feel grateful." Ritter also talked about what it felt like to revive the fan-favorite private investigator, saying: "It felt crazy — like no time had passed. It felt celebratory; everybody was so excited. This is all due to fan demand. I really believe I'm back because the fans have been so vocal about Jessica and feeling so passionate about her. 'And I am so thrilled to be back in these iconic boots. This is a character that I love and means so much to me, and means so much to so many women and men. And the fact that she gets to come back in this huge way is a thrill. And it's a really great team." As for what the future holds for Jones in the MCU, nothing has been confirmed, but Ritter said, hopefully: "I think there are many opportunities for Jessica. I think that she's a great way in. I think that she brings her own flavor and her own style. And I think that you could probably find her anywhere, but I do love the grounded street element. 'And what I've always loved about Jessica is how deeply personal it is. I think there's just so much to this character. She's so dynamic that it's exciting to officially be in the MCU and be brought back in this big way. 'It's amazing and wild; it's really so rare that something like this happens. So, I'm thrilled that Marvel's been so amazing and that the fans brought her back. I'm just over the moon about it." Daredevil: Born Again season 2 is set to hit Disney+ in March 2026. via: Movieweb

Krysten Ritter Teases Return as Jessica Jones as DAREDEVIL: BORN AGAIN Season 2 Wraps Filming — GeekTyrant

Filming has officially wrapped on Daredevil: Born Again Season 2, and with that comes with the return of Krysten Ritter as Jessica Jones. She recently teased: "It's very exciting. I am very thrilled to be back in Jessica's boots. There's more story for her, and it's really exciting," Ritter told ScreenRant. She also talked about the tone of Born Again, which, as you know from the first season, is leaning into the gritty feel that made the original Netflix era so memorable. "Oh, it's gritty. It feels big, too. The crew's amazing. I've had an amazing experience. I can't say anything, but I love being with Charlie [Cox]. It was as if no time had passed. 'Like, my first day, I was looking around like, we're back… I think the fans are going to be very, very thrilled. We're doing some cool stuff." Ritter first appeared as Jessica Jones back in 2015, and quickly became a fan-favorite for her no-nonsense portrayal of the hard-drinking, reluctant hero. Showrunner Dario Scardapane confirmed the Season 2 wrap on Instagram, sharing a photo of a custom bobblehead gifted by the art department, and thanking the cast and crew, including new face Matthew Lillard. We'll find out what's in store for Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 when it hits Disney+ in March 2026. Source: ScreenRant

JESSICA JONES Revival: Marvel Reportedly Weighing TV Series or Special Presentation Format — GeekTyrant

Krysten Ritter's return as Jessica Jones is officially on the books with Daredevil: Born Again Season 2, but it might not stop there. According to insider Daniel Richtman, Marvel Television is actively considering bringing the hard-drinking private investigator back in her own project either as a full-blown TV series or a Special Presentation, similar to what they did with Werewolf by Night and The Punisher . Richtman shared, "Marvel is discussing doing Jessica Jones as either a [TV] show or a special of her own." This update comes after years of speculation and close calls. Jessica was rumored to appear in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law and even came close to a cameo in Echo , but that was reportedly scrapped when Echo pivoted into its standalone 'Marvel Spotlight' branding, an experiment Marvel Studios seems to have left behind. While the second and third seasons of the original Jessica Jones Netflix series didn't quite land the same way the first did, fans are ready to see Ritter take another shot at the role, especially with Marvel now leaning into grounded, street-level stories. Recent reports suggest the studio wants to clearly separate its small-screen stories from its cinematic universe, leaving the big Avengers-style crossovers for theaters and keeping streaming focused on street-level drama. This approach makes sense. Why crowd the MCU series with cosmic stakes when characters like Jessica Jones are at their best in alleys and courtrooms, not space battles? Whether it's a miniseries or a 45-minute noir-inspired one-off, there's a lot of potential here. Marvel TV boss Brad Winderbaum recently emphasized the importance of pacing and story-first decisions when asked about bringing back other Defenders characters like Luke Cage or Iron Fist: 'It's about not rushing and telling the best story. Yes, it's exciting to think about characters interacting, but it's about the reasons why. At times we've done that very well, at times we've rushed. The story has to lead the path.' This could hint that Marvel isn't rushing to throw every Netflix alum into Born Again , but they're definitely thinking about it. And if Jessica Jones clicks again with fans, a solo return makes perfect sense.
