David Tennant gutted to miss out on Marvel role

David Tennant was keen to play Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic In 'The Fantastic Four: First Steps'. The former 'Doctor Who' star - who played Killgrave in Marvel's Netflix series 'Jessica Jones' - has revealed he was eyeing the superhero role before Pedro Pascal landed the part. Appearing on a panel at MCM Comic Con in London on Saturday (24.05.25), he said: 'In terms of superheroes, I don't know, I did slightly have my eye on Reed Richards, and unfortunately, it looks like they've gone in a different direction, although if it has to be someone, I'm happy for it to be Pedro Pascal, frankly.' The 54-year-old actor doubts he'll get a chance to portray the iconic character, but was full of praise of Pedro. Tennant said: 'I would have quite liked to be Reed Richards, I'd quite like to be able to do all that. 'So I'll stick with that even though it's gone, even though it's gonna be a while before there's another go at that, I think, unfortunately.' He added: 'I think Pedro Pascal is great. I'm very, very pleased that he exists.' Pedro recently admitted he found playing Mister Fantastic "really intimidating". The 50-year-old actor always feels under immense pressure when joining established franchises, having had roles in 'Game of Thrones' and 'Star Wars', because he wants to make audiences "happy" while staying true to himself. He told Entertainment Weekly: 'It was really intimidating. 'I relied on the people that I was around to hold me to the experience and help get me through it. Stepping into something like Game of Thrones and then going into the early days of Netflix with Narcos and then Star Wars and the world of video games with The Last of Us, each time I've felt like I couldn't top how intimidating the last one was. They're all scary because you really want to make people happy, especially if it's something that's widely known with particular expectations around it because you want those expectations to be met. You also want to be authentic to yourself so that it can be the best that it can be for anybody who wants to be entertained by a story and travel with us into this world.' Ebon Moss Bachrach will play Ben Grimm/The Thing, with Vanessa Kirby starring as Sue Storm/The Invisible Woman and Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm/The Human Torch.

'I'm so excited to bring back this iconic character, and without giving too much away, there is much more in store for Jessica Jones. This is going to be an incredible season!' Ritter first played Jones in the self-titled Netflix series that debuted in 2015. 'Jessica Jones' was one of five Marvel shows to air on Netflix, along with 'Daredevil,' 'Luke Cage,' 'Iron First,' 'The Punisher,' and the crossover series 'The Defenders.' 'Jessica Jones' ultimately aired for three seasons, with its final Netflix season airing in 2019. It was canceled, along with all the other Marvel-Netflix shows, when Disney initiated plans to air Marvel Cinematic Universe shows on Disney+. Ritter received widespread praise for her portrayal of the character, who has super strength and the ability to fly. After a brief but failed stint as a superhero, Jones began working as a private investigator in New York. As Variety reported at the time, part of the Netflix-Marvel deal included a provision which prevented the characters featured in the shows from appearing in any non-Netflix series or film for at least two years after cancellation. Disney has already begun bringing the characters back, with 'Daredevil: Born Again' starring Cox and Vincent D'Onofrio debuting on Disney+ in March 2025. Jon Bernthal also returned in that show as Frank Castle, a.k.a The Punisher, with Season 2 of 'Born Again' already in the works. Krysten Ritter to Guest Star in "Dexter: Resurrection"

Yara Sameh Krysten Ritter will make a guest star appearance in 'Dexter: Resurrection'. The 'Jessica Jones' and 'Love & Death' star is set to play a character named Mia, but other details about the role are unknown. Production for the 'Dexter' sequel series at Showtime started in January in New York and the series is slated to debut on Paramount+ With Showtime in the summer. Michael C. Hall returns as Dexter Morgan in the series, which also stars Uma Thurman as Charley, David Zayas as Detective Angel Batista, Jack Alcott as Dexter's son Harrison Morgan, Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine as Blessing Kamara. The series also features Kadia Saraf as Detective Claudette Wallace, Dominic Fumusa as Detective Melvin Oliva, Emilia Suárez as Elsa Rivera, James Remar as Dexter's father Harry Morgan, and Peter Dinklage as Leon Prater. 'Dexter: Resurrection' is not to related to 'Dexter: Original Sin,' a prequel series that follows a young Dexter (Patrick Gibson) as he transitions from student to serial killer. That series, which also sees Hall return as Dexter's inner monologue, debuted in 2024 on Paramount+ With Showtime. 'Resurrection' is one of many offshoots of 'Dexter,' a hit serial killer drama that ran on Showtime for eight seasons, from 2006 to 2013. A sequel series, 'Dexter: New Blood,' aired in 2021, which also saw Hall reprise the role of Dexter. The series is executive produced by 'Dexter' vet Clyde Phillips, who also returns to serve as showrunner. Showtime Studios and Counterpart Studios serve as producers. Hall is an EP along with Scott Reynolds, Tony Hernandez and Lilly Burns, with Marcos Siega serving as producing director. Monica Raymund will direct four episodes, and Siega will direct six episodes for the series, which is distributed by Paramount Global Content Distribution. Ritter is best known for leading Marvel's 'Jessica Jones,' and she can also be seen in 'Breaking Bad,' 'Big Eyes,' 'Orphan Black: Echoes,' and more.
