More info A young Edinburgh-born woman is set to be the youngest competitor on The Great British Bake Off this year. 23-year-old Jasmine, who is living in London while she completes her medical degree, will be showcasing her baking skills in the 2025 Channel 4 series. The student, who learnt the basics of bread and cakes through her mother and aunts, said she likes "using classic flavours and techniques to produce delicious bakes." Twelve bakers, including two hairdressers and a creative entrepreneur, have been announced for series 16 ahead of the return of the baking contest on Channel 4, reports Wales Online. Drag king and service designer Jessika, who was raised in Cornwall, said she was alone at her friend's house when she got the call to be in the show. The 32-year-old said: "Seeing the big white tent for the first time was so weird. I've watched the show for years, and entertained the idea that, potentially, maybe, one day, this girl could quite possibly bake up a storm for the judges. "But it didn't really hit me until I was standing at my workstation, apron on, looking around at the other bakers and thinking, 'Welp, girl, you made it!'" Born in Hong Kong and now living in Essex with her husband and two children is bridal designer Pui Man who rediscovered baking during the Covid-19 lockdown. The 51-year-old said she was "extremely excited" but also "extremely nervous" about going into the tent. Belfast-based Iain, who is a former amateur powerlifter, mixes his love of live music with sourdough, immortalising album cover art on the crusts of his loaves. The 29-year-old software engineer said: "When I got the call to confirm my place I was in sheer disbelief, I had no idea it would actually happen. "I thought it was a prank at first, I got a call a few minutes after being told and I thought they were going to tell me they made a mistake and I wasn't actually on the show!" Ukraine-born Nataliia, who moved to the UK just before the war broke out with Russia, is an office assistant who follows traditional recipes that have been handed down through the generations. The east Yorkshire based baker, 32, said: "My husband secretly sent off my application without telling me, and when he told me that the Bake Off team wanted to speak to me, I was - to put it mildly - shocked. We were at home, and it was the most unexpected phone call." Business development executive Toby grew up in the seaside town of Sidmouth and now lives with his girlfriend Syd in Warwickshire with their rescue dog Bex. The 29-year-old said it was surreal to meet hosts Alison Hammond and Noel Fielding and added: "They were honestly just so friendly and we had a hug and introduced ourselves. I do remember I felt an overwhelming need to be interesting... whether I was successful or not, I'm not sure I want to know." Also competing are two hairdressers, 59-year-old Lesley, who lives with her partner Mark and two dogs in Kent, and Nadia, 41, from Liverpool, who blends Indian and Italian flavours with Scouse influence. The line-up is completed by senior systems architect Aaron, creative entrepreneur Tom, Welsh software delivery manager Leighton, and analytical research and development scientist Hassan from south Yorkshire. The Great British Bake Off will begin on Tuesday September 2 at 8pm on Channel 4.

Jessika Power shares heartbreaking update on her dog Sushi as she reveals the eye-watering amount it's going to cost her to bring him home

Married At First Sight star Jessika Power has given an update on her beloved sausage dog Sushi. The reality TV star, 32, was forced to leave her fur baby behind with her ex-partner, British DJ Brent Anthony, in France following their split. Taking to Instagram on Tuesday, Jessica, 33, shared a series of clips revealing where she was in her quest to bring Sushi home - and the whopping cost of making it so. Jessica slammed the company charged with transporting Sushi, claiming that they were the reason for the delay in returning the pet. 'Sushi is still in France,' Jessica said. 'The reason being is because the pet courier company I was going through... have no idea what they're doing. They don't get back to me when I try to contact them.' Jessika added that he quest to be reunited with her beloved Sushi had, thus far, taken five months. 'I've been trying to get this dog back since December. He had to wait six months for his rabies shot vaccination to kick in fair enough- all good,' she continued. 'However, now that's been done, I'm like well when can we get the dog over to England because Sushi needs to fly back to England first - in order for me to get him back to Australia. It's just an easier process.' Jessika then revealed the eye-watering cost associated with bringing her four-legged friend back home. 'It cost me €40 ($71AUD) to get him in - it is costing me €2,500 ($4,452AUD) to get him out,' she said. 'I don't know how it all works I should've really looked into it. It's been the hardest process just to get him out of France. 'Once he's in England it's a very straightforward process of getting him back over to Australia.' Aside from that cost, Jessika added that she was willing to foot the bill for someone to travel from England to France to retrieve Sushi. 'Sushi is still in France,' Jessica said. 'The reason being is because the pet courier company I was going through... have no idea what they're doing. They don't get back to me when I try to contact them' 'We're currently looking for a new courier or if I have any friends here in England that want me to pay for their flights to France for a couple of days,' she generously revealed. 'I'm happy to pay for your accommodation in order for you to grab Sushi and bring him back into the English water.' Continuing the expansive post, Jessika elaborated on the complicated process of being reunited with her pet. 'As soon as he leaves France he will be in England for possibly two or three weeks and then he will take the long flight over back to Australia. He will only have to quarantine for 10 days,' she explained. Rounding out the post Jessika said that while heartbroken over being separated from Sushi for so long, she was keen to follow protocols to the letter to ensure his safe return to Australia. 'I try to forget about it because it really makes me sad,' she said. 'I miss my dog quite a lot but, at the minute, I need to make sure I'm going though the right channels in order to get him home because if he is not properly vaccinated or anything like that when he arrives in Australian custom borders, he can be euthanised or he can be sent back home.' Jessika's post comes after she turned to fans for help in returning Sushi to her loving arms. Aside from that cost, Jessika added that she was willing to foot the bill for someone to travel from England to France to retrieve Sushi Back in January, Jessika announced that a GoFundMe page had been set up to assist in paying for her dog's trip to Australia. 'Missing my moo (sushi) sooooo much!!! He has 2 more months before he can come home - I hate how everyone thinks I would ever just abandon him. My good mate is looking after him,' she wrote on Instagram. 'I was so happy to leave him with people I loved and trusted but I can't wait to have him back in my arms. 'I have made a GoFund page to help bring him back because despite what I thought I could do it's seeming to be way more difficult than I thought.' Jessika went on to say she doesn't want her fans to think she's 'taking advantage but sometimes you just need to ask for help'. 'I don't need the hate and animosity (happy to block and delete) everyone thinks I earn millions and millions but I wouldn't ask if I didn't need it. 'Just because I'm a 'celebrity' doesn't always mean unlimited money. I've also already dealt with this in the past but I am asking please for a little help.' Jessika also shared a link to the GoFund me page, which is titled 'Help me get my sushi boy home.' 'I miss my baby so much and would love him to be back around people that I will ask for help,' she wrote.
