SM Prime to spend P7B to redevelop SM Megamall
SM Megamall Building A fifth floor garden will have an ETFE roofing system, a lightweight, highly transparent and eco-friendly alternative to glass that allows more natural light into the indoor garden. SM PRIME SM Prime Holdings Inc. is set to spend some P7 billion to redevelop SM Megamall to adopt a 'Crystal Islands' concept designed by the architectural firm known for developments such as Singapore's Jewel Changi and Thailand's Icon Siam. The redevelopment will be designed by UK-based architectural firm Benoy, emphasizing natural light, open flow, and organic forms, adding 20,000 square meters of gross leasable area. It will have a phased completion targeted between 2027 and 2029. It will also add themed retail zones, and operational upgrades including a new four-level basement parking facility with over 1,600 slots, state-of-the-art cinemas, a new Megatrade Hall, a redesigned food court, and upgraded areas and restrooms. SM Prime said the design also features sustainability initiatives such as a rainwater harvesting system with a 500-cubic-meter capacity, Ethylene Tetrafluoroethylene (ETFE) roofing, skylights and clerestory windows, and sensor-activated escalators. According to SM Supermalls president Steven Tan, SM Megamall is still ranked the highest out of all the company's malls in terms of per-square-meter sales, and this is expected to increase even further with the redevelopment. 'We have redevelopment lined up for the next five years now, as well as opening new malls. You know, we always assess the maturity of an existing mall if they are ready for expansion,' he said in a recent briefing. 'It has to have a certain level of maturity in terms of business and a certain occupancy that it has to reach. We have a matrix to go after that, but this is all planned out — not just for this year, and not just for next year, even for the next five years,' he added. Tan also noted that more retailers are expected to take space in SM Megamall with the redevelopment, as it also has the highest waiting list among all the company's malls. 'We always work with our partners when it comes to our rental or leasing of our space. We also always study the sales over rent of the tenants. If the threshold still allows us to increase the rent we normally do that annually, but of course working with our tenant partners is key here,' he said. SM Prime posted an all-time high net income of P24.5 billion in the first half of the year, as strong consumption and the recovery in retail and tourism drove revenues up by 5% to P68 billion. Aside from SM Supermalls, SM Prime's subsidiaries include SM Residences (the umbrella residential arm segment of SMDC, SM Signature Series, and SM Leisure Resort Residences), SM Hotels and Convention Centers, and SM Offices. — RSJ, GMA Integrated News

Stefanie Sun and Kit Chan to headline free concert in August as part of Changi Airport and Jewel's SG60 events
As Singapore approaches its 60th birthday, Changi Airport Group (CAG) and Jewel Changi Airport (Jewel) are marking the milestone with a series of festive events from July to August. The main highlight is the SG60 Homecoming Concert headlined by Stefanie Sun and Kit Chan. It will take place on Aug 1 at Jewel's indoor waterfall area. Joining the local music icons are Sezairi Sezali and Regina Song, The Freshman and SuperSonic. While admission is free, a ticket is required for entry and will be distributed to the public via ballot. Further details will be announced on Changi Airport's social media channels in early July. On Jul 27, Changi Airport will also be holding a charity walk in support of Community Chest-funded programmes for children with special needs and youths-at-risk. It will kick off at Terminal 2's Race Village and go on a two-kilometre route along the Changi Airport Connector before ending at Terminal 4. There will be a carnival where participants can enjoy nostalgic local treats like ice cream sandwiches and gem biscuits. Tickets are required for this event with sign-ups closing on Jul 23. Early bird specials are available until Jun 30, with exclusive discounts for Changi Airport community members. All participants will get a race pack filled with goodies including an event tee, eco-bag, and retail vouchers, which can be collected from Jul 18 to Jul 20. For those who are unable to attend in person, a 60km virtual run challenge is available. There is also the option to donate directly to the cause via the event's official website. In addition, Changi Airport is bringing Singapore's iconic flora and fauna to life across its terminals. Starting Jul 21, Terminal 3 will host a 270 sq m floral garden dedicated to Singapore's national flower, the Vanda Miss Joaquim. The floral extravaganza will include orchid varieties such as Dendrobium Changi Airport and Renanthera Singaporeans. Over at Jewel, the Jewel Forest Valley will also be transformed into its own orchid wonderland from Aug 1 to 31, featuring more than 1,200 orchids in red and white hues. To add to the fun, the Changi Experience Studio will have an interactive pop-up exhibition from Aug 1. The Evolution of Travel showcase will look at how air travel – and even in-flight dining – has evolved.

This restaurant is serving kitchen sponges & dirty sink water — and people are actually eating it
With a heart as pure as mine, April Fools is a yearly nightmare. Imagine falling for the same recycled lies again and again — all for the sake of a 'holiday.' And just when I thought the chaos was over, bam — KANTIN at The Granary in Sarawak and Jewel Changi in Singapore decided to dial it up with their dishwater and kitchen sponge combo. For RM27, you'll be treated to what looks like a classic lime green dishwashing sponge, soaked in suspiciously soapy suds, complete with bubbles for that oh-so-luxurious mouthfeel. You can even request a shot of extra detergent — straight from the bottle, darling. Now, I know what you're thinking: This is absolutely disgusting! And you're right. But also… when else will you get the chance to truly clean your mouth? Especially if you've spent the last month blabbering about your ex, your family, or the entire human race — this might be the universe's way of telling you it's time to start fresh. Just when you think it can't get any more unhinged, it does: the dish comes with a side of dirty sink water — scooped straight from KANTIN's well-worn kitchen sink. A little counterproductive? Sure. But when will you ever get to taste the air tangan of an actual dishwasher? Exactly. Okay, I know that some of you are getting more and more alarmed as this article goes on, but in case it wasn't obvious — yes, these are all edible! The 'kitchen sponge' is actually a delightfully fluffy dessert you can scoop and devour, and the 'dirty sink water' is a safe-to-drink concoction designed to test your courage and your palate. While this might trigger a few gag reflexes among the more picky foodies, for those who once nibbled on real sponges as curious kids (we see you), this might be the redemption arc you've been waiting for. So, what do you say? Dare to take a bite? KANTIN's April Fools special is available throughout Apr at both their Malaysia and Singapore locations. Get them while they last! Is Wingstop Singapore's IG account just a bold marketing stunt— or has it actually been hacked?
