Masterclass in deception: Saif Ali Khan and Jaideep Ahlawat face-off in 'Jewel Thief - The Heist Begins'
Saif Ali Khan, Kunal Kapoor, Nikita Dutta and Jaideep Ahlawat co-star in 'Jewel Thief - The Heist Begins'. Image: Supplied If you enjoy a slick action thriller in a similar vein to the 'Race' and 'Dhoom' franchises, then Siddharth Anand's 'Jewel Thief - The Heist Begins' won't disappoint. Aside from the star-studded casting of Saif Ali Khan, Jaideep Ahlawat and Kunal Kapoor, the film is bolstered by a witty script, laden with deception and one-upmanship. The Netflix Bollywood film, with English subtitles, underpins the action with family drama as Rehan Roy (Ali Khan) is sought out by his younger brother Avi (Gagan Arora). Having been cut off by his principled doctor father, Jayant (Kulbhushan Kharbanda), who learned of his fraudulent lifestyle, Rehan has been harbouring lots of resentment towards him. However, when he learns that his estranged father has unwittingly gotten into business with Rajan Aulakh (Ahlawat), an unsavoury art collector, he has no choice but to return to India. Sought-after by the authorities, especially Secret Service officer Vikram Patel (Kapoor), Rehan plans an artful return to the homeland, where he has to do one job for Rajan, who will then release Rehan's father from their business agreement. The job in question is no easy feat. Rehan has to procure Prince Gamunu's (Peter Muxka Manuel) African ruby, Red Sun, which is on display at a prominent Mumbai museum. Despite the tight security, Rehan is forced to come up with a plan to retrieve the ruby. Even with stringent security measures in place, Rehan must devise a strategy to get the ruby back. And he does - but it is thwarted by Vikram, who has been hot on his trail since he left Budapest. Video Player is loading. EXCLUSIVE! Jaideep Ahlawat on Netflix's ‘Jewel Thief - The Heist Begins': ‘Percentage of good cinema has increased now'
In an EXCLUSIVE interview with Firstpost, Jaideep Ahlawat talks about his film 'Jewel Thief - The Heist Begins', how he chooses his roles and more read more In Netflix's 'Jewel Thief - The Heist Begins', Jaideep Ahlawat plays a complex, ruthless character who actually is an underworld don, but to the outside world he is an art collector. His paintings are stained with real human blood after countless smashes with his fist. In an interview with Firstpost, he talks about how he gets into each and every character, why he hates being called a method actor and more. Edited excerpts from the interview: How do you choose your role differently all the time? Even Jaane Jaan was very different and it got into our heads so hard that we kept thinking about it even after we finished watching the film. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD I try to surprise myself all the time. While picking up a role, I try to understand how different it is going to be and I also ask myself each time whether I will be able to pull it off or not. When you prepare for a role for that matter, do you see yourself in the mirror… are you a method actor? No actually there is a process in finding, but I am not a 'method actor'. I actually don't like this word because it's misused by many people. For me it always starts with reading the part and the script again and again. And of course there is a web around the character that you are playing. And there is a director who guides you and then putting on the costume, you slowly get into the role. Cinema is changing… Good cinema is always like that where every role is important and not just of the hero whether it is cinema made in the 70s, 80s or 90s. If you talk about Indian cinema you will understand that there was always good cinema and cinema that made sense and where every actor or character of the story was as important as the lead actor. Only change is that the percentage of that kind of cinema is growing. As an audience we are also evolving, initially the filmmakers had an idea that whatever will be given to us we will take. But that isn't the scene now. I totally agree with this. The point is that the percentage of good cinema has increased now. Let's go a little behind, it was Ram Gopal Varma who changed everything. He got Manoj Bajpayee where he went on killing every one (referring to Satya). Every actor in that film is as important as he is. So, my point is good cinema was always there. Saif Ali Khan: Playing a thief in a heist movie is very interesting
Picture Credit: X Bollywood 's suave star Saif Ali Khan , who is all set to hit the big screen with his upcoming film ' Jewel Thief-The Heist Begins ', opened up about the allure of playing a thief. Sharing his thoughts on the role, he said that there's something intriguing about portraying a character who operates outside the system. Reflecting on playing Rehan Roy, Saif shares "Playing a thief in a heist movie is very interesting because he is someone who challenges the system, bending the rules, it's kind of fascinating to watch and read through and portray." Saif's character Rehaan is a charming rogue with a penchant for rebellion, an adventurous spirit and a deep seated love for family. He said that his character Rehaan "is a thief with organization, with swag, an adventurer at heart and a family man." by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Trade Bitcoin & Ethereum – No Wallet Needed! It was this dynamic that made him irresistible to portray and I believe attractive to watch." 'Jewel Thief-The Heist Begins' is directed by Kookie Gulati and Robbie Grewal, the upcoming movie also stars Jaideep Ahlawat , Nikita Dutta and Kunal Kapoor. However it wasn't just Rehaan's complexity that drew Saif in. The actor explained: "You don't get offers like this everyday". "It is addictive because you're living in an alternate universe full of energy. It is a world of red diamonds, mafia dons with guns, whiskey glasses being thrown at people's faces, people kicking you out of windows, high octane action, now robbing some museum, its action- packed yet fantastical." He said Rehan's character is cool, larger than life set in this neon universe, feels like a comic book, so it is really cool and fun. "Filming was so fun that when I got home, I was itching to come back and knew it would be weird when it's over. I think actors talk about how to get a film out of your system, I feel like this one will take time because I had an absolute blast shooting it," said the star.
