50 illegal hoardings dismantled in July

1 2 Ranchi: In July, the Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) has dismantled nearly 50 illegal hoardings which were installed without mandatory No Objection Certificates (NOCs) or in contravention of civic advertisement bylaws, as per enforcement provisions under the Jharkhand Municipal Act, 2011. These structures posed serious public safety hazards and cluttered key junctions. RMC teams targeted major stretches across the city such as Kutchery Chowk, Jail Chowk, Circular Road, Lalpur Chowk, and Dangratoli Chowk, Hinoo, Doranda and more where visually obtrusive and structurally unsafe hoardings were removed on the spot. In several cases, installations dangerously close to drains or electric transformers were found. Additional municipal commissioner Sanjay Kumar on Wednesday said, "The campaign is part of a continuous enforcement drive. We will keep going until all unapproved hoardings are eliminated, this is not a one-time effort but a sustained push." Under the Jharkhand Municipal Act of 2011, municipal authorities are empowered to swiftly remove any unsafe or unauthorised structures, including outdoor advertisements, without prior notice, especially those violating licensing norms, obstructing visibility, or posing threats in high-traffic zones.

Now, stringent waste collection norms for JSR eateries and shopping centres

1 2 Jamshedpur: Public squares in the Steel City will be turned into garbage free zones under a new Zero Waste Market initiative of the Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee (JNAC). "Under the initiative, shopkeepers, traders, vendors will have to keep two separate bins at their respective establishments for segregated collection of dry and wet waste. They were earlier asked to place two bins but now it has been made mandatory," Krishna Kumar, deputy municipal commissioner (DMC) of JNAC, said. Swacchata squads of JNAC will randomly inspect the commercial establishments and those found flouting the mandate will be penalised as per provisions of Jharkhand Municipal Act of 2011. Kumar said besides enforcing the mandate, the squads will create awareness among the traders on waste segregation. The mandate will also be applicable for malls and shopping centres besides roadside grocery stores, restaurants and apparel stores. "It is imperative that the waste generated by the local market are not dumped carelessly," Kumar said. "Restaurants in the colony markets have been complying with waste segregation. The initiative will also focus on enforcing the ban on sale and use of single-use plastic items," he added.
