Assam's Kaziranga National Park suspends Jeep Safari from May 19; know why

Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve in Assam is one of the prime wildlife attractions in India home to the rare one-horned rhinos . According to a latest update, the park has suspended Jeep Safari from May 19, 2025, until further notice. The decision was taken keeping in mind the bad weather and worsening road conditions across the park. This new update has also raised safety concerns for visitors and staff alike. The Divisional Forest Officer of the Eastern Assam Wildlife Division made the announcement in a notice. The news was also confirmed by Assam's Chief Minister's Office on X (formerly Twitter). The notification read, 'It is notified for general information and best interest of all concerned that Jeep Safari for the visitors in Kaziranga National Park & Tiger Reserve will remain closed from 19th May, 2025, due to inclement weather and road conditions'. This closure comes shortly after Kaziranga recorded a historic surge in tourist visits during the financial year 2024–25. As per the Field Director Sonali Ghosh, the park welcomed a record 4,06,564 visitors, including 17,693 foreign tourists. This also brought a revenue of INR 10.90 crore. Contribution of foreign visitors Foreign visitors now make up around 4.5 percent of the total tourist footfall. Muscat: Oman has reviewed prospects for cooperation with the Kingdom of Bhutan on the Gelephu Mindfulness City (GMC) project, focusing on the project's components and future plans. The review took place during a meeting between H E Sayyid Badr bin Hamad al Busaidi, Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Abdul Salam bin Mohammed al Murshidi, President of the Oman Investment Authority, alongside the project team and Liew Mun Leong, CEO of GMC. The Gelephu Mindfulness City Special Administrative Region (SAR) is a visionary undertaking announced by King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck on Bhutan's National Day in 2023. Spanning 2,500sqkm in Gelephu, South Bhutan, the GMC SAR is strategically located at the centre of a land bridge that connects more than two billion people in the dynamic economies of South Asia and Southeast Asia. The development envisions a thriving economic centre that seamlessly integrates the core principals of Bhutan's philosophy of Gross National Happiness – equitable economic growth, cultural preservation, environmental sustainability and good governance. The GMC project is one of Bhutan's most prominent development initiatives, aimed at creating an integrated smart city that combines innovation, sustainability, and a knowledge-driven economy. The project seeks to attract investments across several sectors, including advanced technology, education, healthcare, and hospitality.
