Weezer Bassist's Wife Jillian Lauren Officially Charged For April's Cop Shooting Incident
Weezer Bassist's wife Jillian Lauren Shriner has officially received her charges, but lower than expected. Scott Shriner's wife was finally charged for getting involved in a firearm incident involving law enforcement agents last month. Jillian Lauren Shriner, was shot and arrested by Los Angeles police after she allegedly pointed a handgun at police officers during a search for a hit-and-run suspect. The Los Angeles County District Attorney officially filed felony charges against her for the discharge of a firearm with gross negligence and felony assault with a semiautomatic handgun. Initially, she faced an even more severe accusation: attempted murder of a peace officer. The incident occurred on April 8 when police searched her Eagle Rock neighborhood for a suspect. Jillian Lauren emerged from her home with a pistol, leading to a confrontation captured on body cam and security footage. As officers, who were behind a wooden fence, shouted at her to drop the weapon, she allegedly raised her arm and fired at them, prompting officers to return fire and strike her in the shoulder. Despite the violent nature of the encounter, when she was later in contact with law enforcement, it appeared she was unaware that she had pointed a firearm at the police. She reportedly called to report a prowler in her area and later surrendered to law enforcement after they arrived. Jillian Lauren was then arrested after receiving medical treatment for her injury. TMZ reported that prosecutors are now pursuing a potential sentence of up to 19 years in prison if she is convicted. Fortunately, it seems Jillian Lauren is recovering well from her injury, as noted by her husband shortly after the incident. The Blast shared that Jillian Lauren made headlines when she announced that she is undergoing cancer treatment this year. In a lighthearted March 4th Instagram post from her hospital bed, she expressed gratitude towards her care team. "I'd like to thank the Academy, my amazing hair and makeup team, and the lighting designers here at #glendaleadventisthospital. As if they all hadn't been through enough with the fires right next door!" she penned down. The writer also humorously acknowledged her diagnosis, referring to it as "a little bit of the C word." She praised the incredible oncology team that helped her through a complicated operation. Jillian Lauren could not stop gushing about the compassionate and excellent medical care she has received throughout her life. Concluding her post, she touched on the emotional weight of the experience with a simple reminder to "breathe." Jillian Lauren remained silent following the recent arrest, with no statements released by her representative. Uncertainty also surrounded her legal situation, as she has not yet made an appearance in court. Married to Scott since 2005, the couple has two children and faced significant challenges on their journey to parenthood, including struggles with infertility. They eventually found fulfillment through adoption, welcoming their son Tariku from Ethiopia. Jillian Lauren's writing often garnered critical acclaim for its explorations of trauma, identity, and resilience, but her recent legal troubles add a troubling new dimension to her already scrutinized life. Amidst these developments, law enforcement indicated that only one of the three suspects involved in the hit-and-run incident has been located and cited. As noted by The Blast last month, just days after the chaotic events in their Eagle Rock neighborhood, Scott and Jillian Lauren made their first public appearance together. Photos revealed a visibly frail Jillian Lauren leaning on Scott for support as they approached a waiting car. The writer was reportedly recovering from a gunshot wound to the shoulder, which she sustained during the incident involving police in April. The drama reportedly began earlier in April when a suspect, after a three-car crash on the 134 Freeway, ran into the couple's neighborhood, engaging in bizarre behavior to evade capture. Amid the chaos, Jillian Lauren reportedly felt compelled to defend her home from the intruder. Police later retrieved a 9mm handgun from their residence. Despite the gravity of the situation, Scott maintained a lighthearted demeanor when speaking to reporters about his wife's condition, reassuring them that she was "alright." In true rocker fashion, he also added, "See you at Coachella." In a statement addressing the arrest, LAPD spokesperson Jennifer Forkish provided insights from their preliminary investigation into the serious incident involving the author. The investigation reportedly uncovered key evidence, including a shell casing and video footage that illustrated the suspect's (Jillian Lauren) failure to comply with police commands to disarm. Reports indicated that she fired her weapon at LAPD officers, leading to her booking on charges of attempted murder of a peace officer. Additionally, dramatic audio recordings from the scene reveal the situation's urgency. Officers on the scene reportedly alerted dispatch about Jillian Lauren's armed status and categorized her actions as assault with a deadly weapon against a police officer. What face awaits Scott Shriner's wife after these charges? Time will tell!

Weezer's Scott Shriner to Perform at Coachella Amid Wife's Attempted Murder Arrest
Weezer bassist Scott Shriner is still set to perform with the band at Coachella despite an incident earlier this week where his wife was shot by police and arrested on attempted murder charges, a source close to the band tells Rolling Stone. According to the news release from the Los Angeles Police Department, the incident occurred Tuesday afternoon, April 8, after California Highway Patrol requested backup in locating three misdemeanor hit-and-run suspects who fled into a residential neighborhood of Eagle Rock in Los Angeles. LAPD officers approached the back of a home where one of the suspects was seen running, and Jillian Lauren Shriner reportedly appeared in the yard of a nearby residence, armed with a handgun. 'At that point, there were some commands given, multiple commands to drop the gun, drop the weapon, unfortunately, it did result in an officer-involved shooting,' Detective Meghan Aguilar said at a press conference Wednesday. Shriner and a babysitter eventually left the residence and surrendered to the police; Shriner was taken to a nearby hospital and treated for a non-life-threatening gunshot wound. A 9 mm handgun was recovered from her residence. Jillian Lauren Shriner, an author with two New York Times bestsellers, was later booked on attempted murder charges — police allege she fired her weapon at them before she was shot — and after arraignment, was released on $1 million bail. Despite the incident, as the saying goes, the show must go on, and Weezer — who themselves were a late addition to the Coachella lineup as a replacement for FKA Twigs — proceeded with their festival obligation. Neither Weezer nor Shriner have publicly commented on the incident. Weezer are still set for a number of other festivals, including Kilby Block Party next month, Soundside in September, and When We Were Young in October. Over the summer, they're scheduled for a slew of festival dates in Europe, including U.K.'s Glastonbury festival. Days Before Weezer Set to Play Coachella, Bassist Scott Shriner's Wife Shot by LAPD
New York Times best selling author Jillian Lauren Shriner - who is married to Weezer bassist Scott Shriner - was in stable condition Thursday, a day after she was shot by the LAPD and arrested on attempted murder charges after a wild foot pursuit prompted by a three-car freeway crash led cops to the couple's Eagle Rock neighborhood. The Hollywood-action-style incident began around 3 p.m. Tuesday when California Highway Patrol responded to reports of a crash in the eastbound lanes of the 134 Freeway, west of Figueroa near Eagle Rock. Three occupants in one of the cars smashed up on the freeway fled the scene on foot, which prompted CHP to call the LAPD for backup. A foot chase ensued in the upscale neighborhood where Jillian Lauren Shriner lives with the rocker and their two sons. At some point the 51-year-old mom emerged with a handgun and approached a neighbor's yard where LAPD officers were about to apprehend one of the three men suspected in the hit-and-run on the freeway. That man, police say, had stripped down to his underwear, jumped into a backyard pool, and was watering plants in an attempt to blend in. As cops moved in on that suspect, the LAPD says, officers spotted Shriner allegedly armed with a 9-millimeter handgun in the backyard at her home nearby. Police say she pointed the weapon at officers and refused to drop it despite several orders from the cops. An officer then fired a round that hurled through her shoulder, what the LAPD calls a non life threatening injury, LAPD officials say. "During the search, officers encountered a woman armed with a firearm in the backyard of a home. After repeated commands to drop the weapon were ignored, an OIS occurred," the LAPD said in a statement. "The woman, later confirmed to be a resident, was struck by gunfire & taken to the hospital for treatment."Wounded, Shriner ran back into her home and emerged with her hands up alongside a babysitter minutes later where she was arrested on attempted murder charges. The weapon was recovered inside her home. Shriner's husband Scott has not made a statement about his wife's incident, which comes just days before Weezer is slated to play the famed Coachella festival on Saturday afternoon. Lauren Jillian Shriner, who advocates self defense on her Instagram page, was charged early Wednesday with attempted murder, with bail set at $1 million, according to the public arrest record. She posted bond Wednesday night. Shriner is the author of a true crime tome that she wrote alongside famed writer Michael Connelly, "Behold the Monster: Confronting America's Most Prolific Serial Killer" along with two memoirs that became New York Times bestsellers. "Some Girls: My Life in a Harem" is based on her time working for Prince Jefri Bolkiah, brother of the Sultan of Brunei and 'Everything You Ever Wanted' about her journey into motherhood through adoption. The couple are parents to two sons, Tariku Moon and Jovi Starshine. The man who stripped down to his underwear in an unsuccessful attempt to elude police after the freeway crash was taken into custody. The two other suspects who fled the collision alongside him remain at large.
