Lorde releases new album 'Virgin': Read her heartfelt post about the project

Lorde's new album, " Virgin," is out today and the singer is opening up about the heartfelt meaning behind the project. The "What Was That" singer shared an Instagram post on Friday and said she feels "simply crazy," explaining how the new album came to life. "For a long time an album is just a handful of word docs and Logic sessions, a couple whiteboards, a raw image from a medical scanner in an undisclosed country lol," she began. "I tried to love Virgin right the way through these stages at the same time as I was learning to love myself in my many stages of change, growth, brokenness and wholeness." She continued, "I'm still in shock and awe that so many of my heroes worked on Virgin — it has changed me collaborating with people this good." She ended her post by saying, "This album broke me apart and forged a new creature out of me. I am so proud to stand before you today as her, grateful for this beautiful life spent singing to myself and to you, for as long as you'll have me." The new album includes the singles: "What Was That," "Hammer" and "Man of the Year." Lorde co-produced the album with Jim-E Stack. This September, Lorde will embark on the Ultrasound World Tour in support of her new album. According to a press release, the tour has already sold out multiple nights at Madison Square Garden, London's O2 Arena and Kia Forum. Her tour will kick off in Austin and make stops in Boston, Philadelphia, Minneapolis, Las Vegas as well as stops across Europe, before wrapping up in Brooklyn, New York, on December 17.

Lorde makes a powerful comeback with her new album 'Virgin' after a four-year hiatus

Lorde launches a revealing, rebellious and rejuvenating new chapter with her new album "Virgin". Image: Instagram. After a four-year hiatus, pop sensation Lorde has burst back onto the music scene with her highly anticipated fourth album, "Virgin". Released on Friday, June 27, the Grammy-winning singer-songwriter has filled her latest album with raw honesty and vulnerability. "Virgin" arrives as a follow-up to her indie-folk project, "Solar Power", and is the culmination of a transformative period for Lorde, who described the writing process as both a personal exploration and a creative rebirth. Collaborating closely with producer Jim-E Stack, along with contributors like Dev Hynes and Daniel Nigro, Lorde carefully crafted each track over the past couple of years in cityscapes from London to New York. "What Was That", a powerful break-up anthem, is the album's lead single. It further unfolds with tracks such as "Man of the Year", "Shapeshifter", "Broken Glass" and "Hammer". Lorde Summer Is Upon Us As Pop Star Releases Latest Album ‘Virgin': Stream It Now

Patience is a virtue, a fact that fans of New Zealand-born pop phenomenon Lorde have learned time and time again throughout her career. But luckily, patience is no longer required when it comes to the singer's newest full-length project. On Friday (June 27), Lorde unveiled her much-anticipated fourth studio album, Virgin. Released via Universal Music, the new album features 11 new songs, including its three previously released singles 'What Was That,' 'Man of the Year' and 'Hammer.' More from Billboard Lorde Says MDMA Therapy 'Changed the Game' on Her Stage Fright Ask Billboard: Here Are the Nos. 1 & 2 Reasons That the Hot 100 Has Been Historic This Month Inside Bouyon: How a Fusion of Local Folk Music & Digitized Instruments Gave Way to Dominica's Fast-Spreading Homegrown Genre In a statement released alongside the album's announcement back in April, Lorde compared Virgin to the color 'clear' — and, more specifically, all the things that are clear. 'LIKE BATHWATER, WINDOWS, ICE, SPIT. FULL TRANSPARENCY. THE LANGUAGE IS PLAIN AND UNSENTIMENTAL,' she explained of the record. 'I WAS TRYING TO SEE MYSELF, ALL THE WAY THROUGH. I WAS TRYING TO MAKE A DOCUMENT THAT REFLECTED MY FEMININITY: RAW, PRIMAL, INNOCENT, ELEGANT, OPENHEARTED, SPIRITUAL, MASC.' While the singer touted the importance of having some of the same sounds throughout the project, one thing that remains very different about Virgin is the producers the singer teamed up with; the LP boasts a series of new collaborators for the singer, including Jim-E Stack, Dan Nigro and Dev Hynes, while her Melodrama and Solar Power producer Jack Antonoff doesn't make an appearance. While Lorde called Antonoff a 'positive, supportive collaborator,' she added that 'I just have to trust when my intuition says to keep moving.' In the lead-up to the new project, Lorde also spoke extensively about how Virgin was inspired by her recent examination of gender. The singer said that a conversation with fellow pop star Chappell Roan prompted her to think more critically about her own gender identity. 'I was like, 'I'm a woman except for the days when I'm a man,'' she said. 'I know that's not a very satisfying answer, but there's a part of me that is really resistant to boxing it up.' Lorde's New Song ‘Hammer' Is ‘an Ode to City Life and Horniness'

Lorde's back with a new single. 'Hammer' is the third offering from her upcoming album, Virgin, which will officially drop a week from today. It's the first track on the LP and, as Lorde put it, is 'an ode to city life and horniness tbh.' Written by her and Jim-E Stack, the song pays homage to both of those themes with the opening lines: 'There's a heat in the pavement, my mercury's raising / Don't know if it's love or if it's ovulation.' Some lyrics also nod to gender expression: 'Some days I'm a woman, some days I'm a man,' she sings. On her website, Lorde described the song as, 'MAGIC JEWELRY. NINE MOONS. LARRY THE PIGEON MAN. FLIRTING WITH THE GUY AT MNZ. OVULATION. CRISP SPRING SUN. IMMENSE GRATITUDE TO BE ALIVE. BRAIDING WITH LANGUAGE. BUDDY'S GRANULAR SYNTH. LOGIC OPEN ON THE PLANE. BIG BREAKTHROUGH IN LONDON. FIRST SONG SENT TO MIX. ALWAYS TRACK 1. THE SOUND OF MY REBIRTH.' Earlier today, she dropped the music video directed by Renell Medrano. She's shown swinging naked in a hammock, smoking with her friends, running in a field, and getting a butt tattoo in the woods. You can check out the full lyrics to the track below, courtesy of Genius.
