Riptide Racer splash lands at Castaway Cove in Wichita Falls
WICHITA FALLS (KFDX/KJTL) — If this heat wave has you wanting to cool off in the water, Castaway Cove's newest attraction could be for you. The water park held a ribbon cutting for its Riptide Racer this afternoon, Wednesday, May 14. The multi-lane mat racer slide has been in the works for over a year after city councilors approved the purchase in March last year. H-Two management and marketing president Jimmy Holmes, who operates the park, said the new slide is an economic driver for the city. 'Help drive attendance to the park, and it'll help with guest satisfaction. People are going to really like this. People are coming to the park and further than that, but consistently a 75-mile radius from the drive here to Wichita Falls. They visit the park, they buy gas, they, you know, restaurants and stay in the hotels.' Holmes said. Councilors Mike Battaligno, Austin Cobb, and Mayor Tim Short had a friendly competition while testing it out! Castaway Cove opens for the season this Saturday, May 17, at noon. The park will be open daily through August 10 and on weekends until September 1. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Attendance, profits at Castaway Cove slightly down during annual update
WICHITA FALLS (KFDX/KJTL) — Castaway Cove officials blame lousy weather days and maintenance for slips in attendance and profit for the 2024 season. The water park gave its annual update to city councilors on Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2025. 'Bill is being paid': Lake Arrowhead residents express frustration as city raises rent Attendance dropped about 1% last year, with the park seeing 73,720 people. Profit margins nearly reached a 5% loss or $10,911.71. 'Our expense increased by two percent. Part of that, a big chunk of that was unexpected maintenance issues,' water park marketing director Jimmy Holmes said. Holmes said the park will probably scale back on its 'Friday Night Beach Parties'. 'We didn't do quite as well as what it had in the past,' Holmes told councilors. 'We think it's run its course for now. Also, a couple of weekends with the weather were impacted.' Holmes said the main focus would be the new race track, ' The Riptide Racer.'
