My priority now is to work on a different genre with Rahman sir: Vaishali Samant
Working with Rahman sir is a blessing. I become an enthusiastic kid whenever I work with him. I ask him, 'Did I sing correctly? Is this what you wanted me to sing?, says Vaishali. Vaishali Samant , who returned to Tamil playback music with Jinguchaa ( Thug Life ) after 25 years, says singing the wedding song was her 'life comes full circle' moment since she collaborated with the same composer and filmmaker (AR Rahman and Mani Ratnam, respectively), who introduced her to the Tamil industry, again. Excerpts from a candid interaction: 'WHEN I GOT TO KNOW I WAS SINGING FOR MANI SIR, THE CIRCLE WAS COMPLETE' Long ago, I had sung Yaro Yarodi ( Alaipayuthey ). When we were recording Aaya Re Toofan from Chhaava , Rahman sir said that I should sing in Tamil again, and within a month or so, he made me sing Jinguchaa . I was very happy that he called me for a Tamil song, but I didn't know it was for Thug Life and that the song was written by Kamal Haasan sir. When I got to know I was singing for Mani sir again, I felt that the circle was complete. 'THE RHYTHM AND MELODY OF TAMIL MUSIC HAVE A DIFFERENT ENERGY' The combination of Mani sir and Rahman sir is known for its wedding songs, and I'm happy that I got to sing two of those songs. After hearing Jinguchaa, many people told me that I don't sound like a non-Tamilian, which I was happy to hear. I'm from Maharashtra, and the music there has its flavour and roots. Similarly, artistes from Tamil Nadu are multi-talented. The rhythm and melody of the music here have a different energy. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Din pensionstilværelse kan vare 30 år. 'WORKING WITH RAHMAN SIR IS LIKE ENTERING A CLASSROOM WHERE YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT THE SUBJECT IS GOING TO BE' Working with Rahman sir is a blessing. I become an enthusiastic kid whenever I work with him. I ask him, 'Did I sing correctly? Is this what you wanted me to sing?' He is always in an experimental zone. Working with him is like entering a classroom where you don't know what the subject is going to be. But you're sure that your professor is going to teach you something incredible. My priority now is to work with him again on a different genre. I would love to sing something emotional, serious, or romantic for him. 'THE AUDIENCE ARE CLEVER; THEY KNOW WHAT TO SELECT AND WHAT TO REJECT' As artistes, we have to keep the connection between the audience and ourselves alive, and social media helps facilitate it. However, I use social media for sharing my music work primarily. Apart from that, I hardly post anything. I'm careful about what I post. Just because I have an audience, I don't want to overdo it and do something that I don't like. As the audience are very clever, they know what to select and what to reject. 'TO CATCH THE FLAVOUR OF EACH LANGUAGE CORRECTLY IS A CHALLENGE' I keep on exploring and listening to different genres of music. And I love singing in multiple languages because every language has its own flavour. To catch that flavour correctly is a challenge, and I love doing that. Learning a language, getting the pronunciation and emotion right, and figuring out which words to emphasise — I call this a phonetic study of a song. The same composition can sound different in different languages.

(Also read: Thug Life OTT release: Kamal Haasan, Mani Ratnam's film skips 8-week window, streams online a month after theatrical run) Kamal Haasan and Simbu in the promo for Thug Life. The video shows Kamal Haasan and Simbu sitting in front of a bunch of journalists as part of a media interaction. One of them says that the Jinguchaa dance was absolutely amazing, to which it is Simbu who says thank you, irking Kamal. A second journalist asks that the actor started off as a child artist and has been doing it so successfully for so many years. How was the experience? To this, again, it is Simbu who replies, 'It's an incredible experience.' Kamal looks at him again, faking a smile. When a third question is thrown at them asking who is the real 'thug' in real life, the two of them pause for a while. Then Simbu answers, 'I am the Thug.' Then he adds, to everyone's surprise: 'But the hero of all thugs is Sir!' Simbu asks him to strike a pose, which he agrees to do, and the promo ends with a montage of clips from the Mani Ratnam film. User reactions Reacting to the clip, a user commented: 'Promo was so better than the whole movie.' A second user said, 'this promo > the movie.' Another said, 'Vinveli Nayaga looks better here.' A comment read, 'This promo watching 10+ times, but watching this movie… umm I am not sure.' 'So much effort for the promo, why wasn't the same in the film?' asked a second user. Thug Life is Mani and Kamal's first film together after the 1987 cult classic Nayakan. The gangster drama revolves around him and his adopted son, Amaran, played by Silambarasan. Trisha Krishnan, Ashok Selvan, Joju George, Ali Fazal, Abhirami, and others also star in it. The film was released amid huge controversy over Kamal's remarks on the Kannada language and was not released in Karnataka. The film also received mixed reviews from critics and fans.

Aashima Mahajan talks about her experience of working with A. R. Rahman in ‘Thug Life'
Playback singer Aashima Mahajan, who has crooned the song 'Jinguchaa' from the upcoming film 'Thug Life', has spoken up on the process of recording the track, and working in tandem with the Oscar and Grammy-winning music composer A. R. Rahman. Aashima has sung both the Hindi and Telugu versions of the song. The singer admitted that Telugu being a new language, posed a challenge for her as she required more takes to record the song compared to its Hindi version. The singer told, 'For the Hindi version, we recorded two to three takes, and based on the requirement of the song, he chose the one he liked. The Telugu version was a bit tougher for me and took more time and effort'. 'Jinguchaa' is a vibrant and celebratory song that has captivated audiences with its infectious energy and star-studded visuals. Aashima Mahajan shares the vocals with Sukhwinder Singh, Ronkini Gupta & Vaishali Samant, adding to the festive spirit of this foot-tapping number. The lyrics are penned by veteran megastar Kamal Haasan and the video features performances by Silambarasan TR, Sanya Malhotra, and Kamal Haasan. 'Since I don't speak Telugu, I had a pronunciation guide who helped me with the diction, learning how to pronounce the consonants and vowels correctly. I already knew the melody and emotions in the Hindi version, but switching to Telugu meant learning a new language, where even the word placement changes depending on the meaning. So, it was a bit of a challenge, but I really enjoyed the process. We ended up recording and had a lot of fun', she added. The word 'Jinguchaa' translates to 'celebrations'. Aashima is an alumnus of A.R. Rahman's KM Music Conservatory. Talking about her experience of working with A.R. Rahman, the singer said, 'It's incredibly rewarding to be part of such a beautiful and globally acclaimed project, especially with maestros like A.R. Rahman and Mani Ratnam were involved. I feel truly overwhelmed to see that the track is still trending and receiving so much love from audiences. My heart is filled with warmth and gratitude for all the appreciation the song has received'. 'Working with A.R. Rahman Sir has been nothing short of a dream come true for any singer. He is a force of music, almost a celestial soul, yet his aura is both empowering and calming, he has a way of instantly putting you at ease. I will never forget the moment when, after listening to my album track, he said I have the potential to be the Indian version of Adele. That compliment means the world to me and I will keep that in my heart forever,' she added.
