Angels' Ron Washington Announces Injury News After Guardians Game
Angels' Ron Washington Announces Injury News After Guardians Game originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Los Angeles Angels snapped a four-game losing streak with a 4-1 victory over the Cleveland Guardians on Friday night at Progressive Field. Right-hander José Soriano delivered a stellar performance, pitching six scoreless innings while allowing only four hits and striking out two batters. Advertisement Jo Adell contributed significantly on offense, going 3-for-4 with an RBI, while Jorge Soler added a solo home run in the ninth inning. The Angels' offense was efficient, with eight of the nine starters recording at least one hit, showcasing a balanced attack that had been missing during their recent skid. The highlight of the evening was the return of three-time AL MVP Mike Trout, who had been sidelined since April 30 due to a bone bruise on his surgically repaired left knee. Los Angeles Angels right fielder Mike Trout (27).Kiyoshi Mio-Imagn Images Batting fifth as the designated hitter, Trout went 1-for-5, recording a single in the fourth inning. Trout's return is particularly significant given his history of knee issues, including two surgeries in 2024 to repair a torn meniscus. Advertisement However, the victory was tempered by concerning news regarding reliever Robert Stephenson. In just his second appearance since returning from Tommy John surgery, Stephenson exited the game after throwing only three pitches due to right biceps discomfort (via Angels PR). There was initial concern the injury could be related to his surgically repaired elbow, but Angels manager Ron Washington announced a positive update after the game. "Ron Washington said he thinks Stephenson is going to be fine," Jeff Fletcher of the OC Register wrote. "Just day to day, he says. We are waiting to talk to Stephenson." Advertisement Fletcher added, "Stephenson said he was checked by a doctor and he did some quick tests. He's encouraged that's it right in the middle of the bicep (not by his elbow). He said he is planning to try to throw tomorrow and go from there." The Angels had high hopes for Stephenson's return to bolster the bullpen. The team will monitor his condition closely as they return to action against the Guardians on Saturday, hoping to clinch the series. Soriano's tosses 6 scoreless innings as Angels beat Guardians 4-1 in Trout's return
CLEVELAND (AP) — José Soriano threw six scoreless innings, Mike Trout had a hit in his return to the Angels' lineup and Los Angeles beat the Cleveland Guardians 4-1 on Friday night. Jo Adell had three hits and an RBI and Jorge Soler hit a solo homer down the left-field line in the ninth inning as the Angels snapped a five-game losing streak. Cleveland's José Ramírez had his 21-game hitting streak snapped. He drew a walk in the eighth inning to extend his on-base streak to 26 games. The Guardians, who have dropped four of their last five, avoided a shutout on Nolan Jones' RBI single to right with two outs in the ninth. It was the third time this season Soriano (4-5) has gone at least six innings and not allowed a run. The right-hander allowed only four hits with two strikeouts and four walks. Trout, activated off the injured list after he missed 26 games due to a bone bruise on his left knee, lined out to Ramírez at third in his first at-bat before he lined a base hit to left-center in the fourth inning. Adell singled to right with one out in the second to drive in Soler, who drew a walk off Luis Ortiz (2-6) to lead off the inning. The Halos added a pair of runs in the seventh when Scott Kingery scored on a passed ball and Soler had a run-scoring single to center. Key moment The Guardians had the bases loaded with two outs in the fourth inning, but Soriano got Gabriel Arias to chase a 98 mph sinker for the strikeout. Key stat Trout went 1 for 5 and batted fifth as the designated hitter. It was the first time since Sept. 26, 2011, the three-time American League MVP started a game hitting lower than third. Up next RHP Kyle Hendricks (2-6, 5.23 ERA) goes for the Angels while RHP Slade Cecconi (1-1, 3.27 ERA) takes the mound for the Guardians. ___ AP MLB:

Reports: Angels set to activate Mike Trout on Friday
May 30 - After one month on the injured list, Mike Trout is set to return to action when the Los Angeles Angels open a road series against the Cleveland Guardians on Friday. The three-time American League Most Valuable Player sustained a bone bruise on his surgically repaired left knee while trying to beat out a grounder on April 30. This week, Trout resumed running the bases and taking batting practice. He returns to an Angels team that has lost five games in a row after winning its previous eight straight. Trout is in his first season as a right fielder, having moved from center field in an attempt to maintain his health. In his absence, Jo Adell served as the primary right fielder, hitting .200 with four homers and seven RBIs in 23 games this month. That average is actually higher than Trout's .179 this year, and Trout has a .264 on-base percentage. However, Trout has nine homers, 18 RBIs and a .462 slugging percentage through 29 games. Trout, 33, captured AL Rookie of the Year in 2012, then won AL MVP honors in 2014, 2016 and 2019. He also finished second in MVP voting in 2012, 2013, 2015 and 2018. The 11-time All-Star is a nine-time Silver Slugger honoree. Across 1,547 games in 15 seasons, Trout owns a career batting slash line of .297/.408/.579 with 387 homers, 972 RBIs and 214 stolen bases. --Field Level Media
