Ammon News - The value of bounced checks decreased to JD109 million in July, compared to JD113 million in June, representing 2.97% of the total value of checks in circulation. A statistics from the Jordan Payments and Clearing Company (JoPAC), which Ammon has reviewed, showed that the total number of bounced checks in July reached 17,300, of which 65.2% were returned for financial reasons, worth JD74.4 million, and 34.8% were returned for technical reasons, worth JD34.9 million. The number of checks in circulation decreased by 2.1% in July, to 551,000, compared to 562,000 in June. The total value of checks in circulation in Jordan last month reached JD3.68 billion, a 9.8% increase compared to June. The value of checks circulating in Jordan during the past seven months of this year reached JD23.26 billion. It is noteworthy that the number of checks in circulation in Jordan last year amounted to 6.51 million, with a value of JD40.3 billion.

This compares to 5.5% for withdrawals, 4% for deposits, and 1.1% for purchases. The number of e-wallet users in Jordan increased by 1.2%, reaching 2.58 million users, of whom 88.1% are Jordanians and 11.9% are non-Jordanians. The data indicates that 50.3% of e-wallet users are female, and 49.2% are male, with the age group of 18 to 30 years forming the majority of e-wallet users. JoMoPay is an electronic system that enables mobile payment services through e-wallets, where electronic wallets are registered on the system to facilitate the exchange of financial transactions between e-wallets, including transfers to and from bank accounts.

The data also reveals that 9.9 million transactions were recorded last month, a decrease of 4% compared to 10.32 million transactions in January. Regarding the user base, the number of "Click" users in Jordan increased to 1.74 million users, reflecting a 2% growth in February. According to the statistics, 96.3% of the platform's users are Jordanian, with Jordanians making up 1.6 million users, while users from other nationalities total 65,000, representing 3.7%. The data also showed that the majority of "Click" users in Jordan are male, at 62.2%, compared to around 35% of females. The most active group using the service is young people aged 18 to 30. In terms of transaction types, money transfers accounted for 85.3% of all transactions carried out through "Click," while purchases via "Click" made up 14.7%. "Click" is the latest instant payment system in Jordan, launched by JoPAC in 2020. The system enables the instant transfer and receipt of funds between bank accounts in all participating banks and e-wallets in Jordan. These results reflect the significant development in the electronic payment sector in Jordan, strengthening the position of digital services as a secure and efficient alternative to traditional transactions. They also highlight the shift towards an advanced digital economy in line with global technological developments. It is worth noting that the total number of transactions conducted through the "Click" instant payment system last year amounted to 83.9 million transactions, valued at 12.1 billion Jordanian dinars.
