Indianapolis Colts' best and worst PFF grades from preseason game vs. Ravens

Following the Indianapolis Colts' performance in Week 1 of the preseason against the Baltimore Ravens, which players received the highest grades from Pro Football Focus, and which received the lowest? Now, before we dive into all that, I do want to mention that while PFF's grading system is certainly helpful at quantifying a player's performance, it is not the be-all and end-all when it comes to evaluations. It is one tool out of many that are out there and should be treated as such. For some context around these grades, below is the grading scale. 90.0+: Elite 80-89.9: High quality 70-79.9: Good 60-69.9: Above average 50-59.9: Average 40-49.9: Below average 39.9 or less: Poor Colts' five highest graded players vs. Ravens CB Alex Johnson (94.9): Johnson got the start at cornerback, and on the two targets that came his way, he got his hands on the ball, forcing a pass breakup and coming away with an interception. LB Joe Bachie (94.7): Bachie made all three of his tackle attempts and two stops in the run game. Giving his overall grade a big boost was the red zone interception Bachie came away with. DE Isaiah Land (86.2): PFF credited Land with one pressure and thought he held up well in the run game, which included forcing two run stops. IOL Josh Sills (86.2): Sills played 42 snaps and didn't allow a single pressure. He also had a run-blocking grade of 81.3. TE Tyler Warren (78.4): Warren was as advertised. He caught all three of his targets for 40 yards, was physical, and proved to be a difficult matchup over the middle of the field. Colts' three lowest graded players vs. Ravens DE Durrell Nchami (35.0): Nchami generated two pressures on just 10 pass rush snaps, which is very good. But on 24 run defense snaps, he had just one assisted tackle and received a grade of 28.6. DT Eric Johnson (38.1): Like Nchami, bringing Johnson's overall grade down was his run defense. Johnson saw a lot of snaps early when Ravens' running back Keaton Mitchell was generating some big runs. CB Johnathan Edwards (39.0): A small sample size for Edwards, but he allowed one reception on one target--although it was for only nine yards--and missed a tackle, both of which contributed to his lower overall grade. Former Michigan State linebacker signs free agent deal with the Indianapolis Colts

Former Michigan State linebacker signs free agent deal with the Indianapolis Colts NFL free agency is in full swing, and a former All-Big Ten linebacker for Michigan State football has found yet another landing spot in the NFL as he keeps his career moving forward despite going undrafted in the 2020 NFL draft. On Wednesday, it was announced that Joe Bachie has signed a new deal with the Indianapolis Colts. Bachie spent the last few seasons with the Cincinnati Bengals. Originally, Bachie got his first opportunity in the NFL with the New Orleans Saints, before signing a deal with the Philadelphia Eagles. Indianapolis Colts updated linebacker depth chart after signing Joe Bachie

Indianapolis Colts updated linebacker depth chart after signing Joe Bachie After signing free agent Joe Bachie, what does the Indianapolis Colts' linebacker depth chart now look like? After signing free agent Joe Bachie, what does the Indianapolis Colts' linebacker depth chart now look like? The linebacker position was viewed as a likely need for the Colts prior to free agency beginning, and that only became more true once EJ Speed and Grant Stuard ended up elsewhere. However, it's not a unit that we've seen GM Chris Ballard really add to. In the seventh round of the NFL draft, the Colts drafted Wisconsin safety Hunte Wohler, who the team listed as a linebacker, but from the sounds of it, he will handle some linebacker and safety duties. The Colts also have to be mindful of not putting too much on his plate early on. So the need at this position was twofold. Depth and special teams help after losing Stuard, and ideally, competition for Jaylon Carlies and that starting role next to Zaire Franklin. The addition of Bachie can help provide the former, but there isn't any clear-cut competition on the roster for Carlies at this moment. However, with the Colts being very bullish on the second-year linebacker, I don't know that they view that as a concern. "When we took (Carlies) and moved him from safety to linebacker, we thought the transition was really, really good," Ballard said via the Indy Star. Ballard would go on to say, "It's a position we've been pretty good drafting and developing. I give our coaches and scouts a lot of credit for that," Ballard said. "Don't forget now, E.J. Speed, it wasn't like he came on right away. No, it took him a little time. Zaire Franklin did not come on right away. Great special team player, but eventually became a linebacker that was a good player." Carlies' presence next to Franklin will provide a needed coverage ability at the position, not to mention that Lou Anarumo's attacking and disguise-heavy scheme at the second and third levels can put the linebackers in some advantageous situations. Colts sign LB Joe Bachie

The Colts have added a linebacker who has experience playing under their new defensive coordinator. Indianapolis announced on Wednesday that the club has signed free agent Joe Bachie. Bachie, 27, spent the last four seasons with Cincinnati with now-Colts defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo. Advertisement He was primarily a special teams contributor for the Bengals, on the field for about 66 percent of the unit's snaps in games played over the past two years. But back in 2021, Bachie did start two games for Cincinnati. Bachie has played a total of 51 games with two starts for Philadelphia and Cincinnati since 2020.
