New York Jets insider suggests Day 2 pick from 2024 NFL Draft might not make roster
The New York Jets made big changes this offseason in bringing in a new general manager, head coach and quarterback. With new leadership in the building, it appears one of the club's top picks from the 2024 NFL Draft isn't a lock to make the roster. Rich Cimini of ESPN shed light on the upcoming second year for wide receiver Malachi Corley. After missing the start of offseason activities with the new regime, Corley now heads into the summer behind in the receiver room and he'll need to prove himself to remain with the club. 'My old coach, Bill Parcells, used to say the first thing you need to be is you need to be available. He's missed some time, and there's a learning curve here, so he's in catch-up mode right now.' He was taken well ahead of Jalen McMillan, who recorded 8 touchdowns and 461 receiving yards in his rookie season. Corley appeared in just 9 games last season, making one start. The 5-foot-11 receiver failed to record a single game with multiple catches, with two of his receptions failing to even clear 5 yards. Corley finished the year playing just 91 total snaps (83 on offense, 8 on special teams). New York also spent a fourth-round pick on wide receiver Arian Smith. Paired with Allen Lazard restructuring his contract, Corley could be fighting with Tyler Johnson to be the fifth receiver on the depth chart. Advertisement If it becomes clear late in the summer that Corley won't make the Jets' 53-man roster, the team likely shops him around the league before cutting him. While his pedigree might generate some interest, Corley's inability to get on the field consistently last season might drive down enough interest that he's eventually released. Report: Former New York Jets general manager lands new job with Super Bowl champs
Six years after leaving Philadelphia, Joe Douglas is making a return. The former New York Jets general manager is joining the Eagles as a senior scout, sources confirmed to Philly Inquirer's Jeff McLane on Monday. Douglas served as Philadelphia's vice president of player personnel from 2016-19. Advertisement Douglas played a role in building the Eagles roster that defeated the New England Patriots in Super Bowl LII. The success he had in Philly led to the Jets hiring him as their general manager in 2019. However, that success didn't carry over as New York had no winning seasons or playoff appearances with Douglas as GM. The Jets fired Douglas in November after a 3-8 start to the 2024 season. They went 30-64 during his tenure. But now Douglas returns to a team he's not only familiar with, but had great success with and will look to help the Eagles to a second straight Super Bowl victory. Report: Former Jets GM Joe Douglas returns to Eagles
May 19 - Joe Douglas is returning to the Philadelphia Eagles in a senior scouting role after being fired as general manager by the New York Jets, the Philadelphia Inquirer reported Monday. The Jets terminated Douglas midway through the 2024 season, more than a month after first firing head coach Robert Saleh on Oct. 8. The team was 3-8 when it parted ways with Douglas. Douglas, 48, signed a six-year contract to become the Jets' GM in June 2019. In that span, New York compiled a record of 30-64 with zero playoff appearances, continuing a drought that dates to 2010. Douglas was vice president of player personnel for the Eagles from 2016-19 before leaving for the Jets' post. He is credited with building the Eagles' Super-Bowl winning roster in 2017. He was also with the Baltimore Ravens from 2000-14 and the Chicago Bears in 2015. --Field Level Media

Joe Douglas returning to Eagles after midseason Jets firing
One year after he got the bad end of a trade with Eagles general manager Howie Roseman, Joe Douglas is re-joining his former boss. Douglas, the former Jets general manager, is returning to the Eagles in a senior scouting role, according to multiple reports. Douglas was the Eagles vice president of player personnel from 2016-19, until he was hired to lead the Jets. The Eagles and Jets essentially flipped pass-rushers during the 2024 offseason — and no one wound up happy. Jets owner Woody Johnson (l.) with former Jets GM Joe Douglas (r.) in 2023. Charles Wenzelberg/New York Post After the Eagles signed Bryce Huff away from the Jets during free agency, Douglas turned around and traded a 2026 third-round pick to Roseman for the disgruntled Haason Reddick. Huff only had 2.5 sacks in 12 games, lost his starting job and was a healthy scratch in the Super Bowl. But that sounds like optimal production compared to what Reddick gave the Jets when he held out for the first seven games of the season — after misleading Douglas about his demands for a new contract — and then contributed one sack in 10 games before leaving for the Buccaneers as a free agent. Douglas helped build a Super Bowl-winning roster in 2017 with hits throughout free agency and trades. That notch on his résumé helped him a few years later to land the Jets job, where he was first partnered with head coach Adam Gase and then hired Robert Saleh to replace Gase. His gold star is the 2022 draft class, when he landed Sauce Gardner, Garrett Wilson, Jermaine Johnson and Breece Hall with top-34 picks. Douglas was fired last November — after Saleh already had been let go — near the end of the final year of his contract. A few weeks later, he was shoulder-to-shoulder with Roseman at an Eagles home game — a precursor of what was to come. The Philadelphia Inquirer first reported Douglas' new job.
