Crust & Crumb to create 120 jobs in Co Cavan
Pizza maker Crust & Crumb is to double the size of its production facility at Ballyconnell in Co Cavan. The company said it is creating 120 jobs, which will allow it to support its continued business expansion with supermarket chain Tesco. Crust & Crumb makes 30 different varieties of pizza for Tesco with five new premium pizza lines landing on shelves in recent weeks. The new €12.5m investment in Ballyconnell will increase the site capacity from 40,000 to 80,000 square foot. 282 people are currently employed at the Co Cavan facility, with a further 120 jobs to be added once the new build is finished later this year. The partnership between Tesco and Crust & Crumb began five years ago when the retailer looked to bring production of its pizza range to Ireland. It saw 35% year-on-year volume growth in 2024 and the annual contract is now worth over €10m. Mark McCaffrey CEO, Crust & Crumb, said the relationship with Tesco has grown from strength to strength over the past five years. "The support from retailers like Tesco enables us to make the necessary investments needed to expand and grow. Brexit presented many challenges as we know but also offered some great opportunities to home-grown Irish suppliers like ourselves," he added. Joe Manning, Commercial Director at Tesco, said the partnership with Crust & Crumb highlights Tesco's long-standing commitment to supporting Irish suppliers and helping to grow jobs in local communities. "The quality of the products that Crust & Crumb produce for us means we can ensure that our customers have access to the finest premium products, made locally," he added.

Cleanup underway in Waukee 4,000-gallon Diesel spill
WAUKEE, Iowa — Manning Ag Services is working to clean up a 4,000-gallon diesel spill caused by a former employee. Joe Manning, the Co-Owner of Manning Ag Services, said that cleanup costs will exceed $200,000. 'We scraped the driveway, tested the rock. Uh, the pond will be there next project. They're going to skim the pond with the diesel that on top of it. And then this is the main project right now. And the field where all the, uh, diesel fuel is leaking into our field tiles. We also farm with our trucking company. It's leached out into the field tiles, and that's what's going it just going into the stream,' Manning said. Watching the Conclave from an Iowa Catholic landmark Manning plans to add a keypad to the diesel pump tank to prevent a spill from happening in the future. 'We're getting quotes out to put in a keypad system on the pumps that only our employees that are still employed with us have numbers,' Manning said. Ginny Renaud, a resident who lives near Little Walnut Creek, has concerns about runoff from the spill. 'We're more of a retirement community here. But almost every one of us has children and grandchildren, and the first thing we want to show them is our cute little creek back here. And of course, in time we'll probably waiting through that. So that is a huge concern,' Renaud said. The DNR recommends staying out of Little Walnut creek for a while. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. 132-Year-Old Pyrex Plant Closes for Good After Four Shutdown Delays
The Anchor Hocking Glass Plant in Charleroi, Pennsylvania has roots going back 132 years, but the last two have brought with it a unique kind of whiplash. The 300+ workers supply Pyrex glass – a product line owned by Instant Brands until a 2023 bankruptcy led to the sale of its housewares division to a company called Centre Lane Partners, owner of glass company Anchor Hocking. The news – made public in September – was greeted with outrage, as stakeholders rallied outside the plant and lawmakers asked company leaders to reverse course. Pennsylvania then-senator Bob Casey even called on the FTC to investigate the events that led to the plant's closure decision. Meanwhile, a confusing chain of events ensued and, by February, indecision seemed to be guiding the futures of the plant's employees. By February, the closure had been delayed three times and 'at the 11th hour' it happened again. Workers had reportedly cleaned out their lockers by the time they were told that the plant would remain open for a few months longer in order to fulfill a large order. But by then, as reported by Pittsburgh local news outlet WESA, interest in the factory's fate had waned. Some blamed this on the fact that the political fortunes of local lawmakers had been decided, leaving few champions for Corelle in Charleroi. Now, we might actually now be at the end of the road for the factory. Last week, CBS News reported that 'after a long and emotional roller coaster ride, the Corelle Brands plant owned by Anchor Hocking closed.' This time, reports suggest that it's for the final time. And while Charleroi Borough manager Joe Manning said it was 'a gut punch,' he did add that several parties had expressed interest in possibly repurposing the site.
