'Fingers crossed they can find another couple of gems'
Former Bournemouth defender Joe Partington is hesitant about the replacements the club has signed for Milos Kerkez, Dean Huijsen, and Illia Zabarnyi. Kerkez, Huijsen and Zabarnyi were integral players for the Cherries last season which saw them finish as high as ninth in the Premier League. However, all three of them departed for big money moves this summer to Liverpool, Real Madrid and Paris St. Germain, respectively. Partington believes the club's recruitment department will deliver with quality replacements but chasing European football this season might be a step too far for the Cherries. "Do I think this back four will be the back four that emulates the success the ones last season had? I don't think so," Partington said on the Cherries: Unpicked podcast. "I think they will need to sign two [central defenders] and those two will need to do as well as Zabarnyi and Huijsen did last season to sustain this level that Bournemouth are hoping to achieve. "They weren't far off the European places last season, and if that is the level they want to get to, then I fear the back four we are looking at right now isn't capable of that, albeit they are still good players. "It is good business, but make no mistake, you are losing three huge players and massive contributors to last season's success. But it is good money, and Bournemouth have had a habit of investing the money well, on players that are unknown and turn out really well. "Hopefully they can recreate that. Historically, the recruitment team at Bournemouth have done really well especially in the recent past."Fingers crossed they can find another couple of gems."Listen on BBC Sounds

'Bournemouth are on a fine line'
Bournemouth are on a "fine line" in building a future whereby talented players don't view the club as a stepping the view of former player Joe Partington during a summer in which Dean Huijsen has left for Real Madrid and Milos Kerkez is bound for the latest episode of Cherries: Unpicked, Partington said: "Bournemouth have reached a certain level now where a lot of teams in Europe want to come and take those players."The difficult thing the club have got to do now is sign players that do very, very well but then want to stay at Bournemouth and continue to do well and don't necessarily see it as a place where they might be able to go onto greater things afterwards."I suppose that Huijsen and Kerkez have paved the way now for players to believe they can come to Bournemouth and do well and that the training ground and facilities are now at a certain level that players at the top of the game want to come and be involved in that."But they do have to be very careful that all they're doing is not basically nurturing players for other teams and that these players are consistently contributing to the success of the football club."It's a fine line that the club are on at the moment between success and maybe not having players to recreate that season upon season. Obviously it's a big job the guys at the club have got who manage that process to try and sustain a certain level of consistency."Listen to the full episode on BBC Sounds

Spurs 'a difficult place to go in and do well' - Partington on Iraola links
Former Bournemouth defender Joe Partington spoke to BBC Radio Solent's Cherries: Unpicked podcast about reports linking Cherries boss Andoni Iraola with boss Ange Postecoglou has come under pressure in recent weeks - his side are 15th in the Premier League, seven spots below Bournemouth."Iraola is doing a wonderful job at Bournemouth," Partington said."He did a wonderful job at his previous club too, and I suppose the natural progression of a manager who does well at the clubs who aren't deemed as being 'bigger' clubs is being hunted by those bigger clubs."Speaking further, he said: "There are some clubs in the UK at the moment which are difficult to manage. Tottenham is one of them, Manchester United is another one. There are clubs underperforming."If you are one of those clubs who believes they should be near the top of the Premier League and you're looking at the clubs that maybe shouldn't, Bournemouth is probably one of them. And then you look at the manager [Iraola] and the impact he's had, not just on the pitch but certainly off it as well, you want that - that is something you seek to try to achieve."Maybe Tottenham are the club that Iraola believes is the opportunity he needs to showcase himself at the top of the game, but it's a very difficult place to go in and do well, as many other managers who have been very successful have found recently."Listen to the full episode on BBC Sounds
