Disgraced snooker star Mark King LOSES appeal as five-year ban and huge fine for match-fixing is confirmed

SNOOKER star Mark King has lost his appeal against his five-year ban for match fixing. King was handed the ban in November 2024 and handed a £70,000 fine. 1 The former Northern Ireland Open champ was found guilty of "one count of match fixing and one count of providing inside information on that match." He appealed the decision but the World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association [WPBSA] have turned it down. A WPBSA statement read: "On 7th November 2024 the Independent Disciplinary Committee delivered its final decision in the case of the WPBSA and Mark King. "He was found guilty of one count of match fixing and one count of providing inside information on his match played against Joe Perry on 13th February 2023. He was suspended from the sport for 5 years and ordered to pay £68,299.50 in costs. "Mark King appealed the decision of the Independent Disciplinary Committee and on 8th April 2025 his appeal was heard by an Independent Appeals Committee Chaired by Philip Evans KC. "On 13th May 2025 the Independent Appeals Committee issued its decision on the Appeal. Mr King's Appeal has been refused and the findings against Mr King regarding his match with Joe Perry and in relation to the sanction that was imposed at the original Hearing will stand. "A decision regarding the costs of the Appeal will be made in due course." King, 36, was initially suspended by the WPBSA in March 2023, a month after his match against Perry. Suspicious betting had been reported, with an investigation carried out alongside the WPBSA's bet monitoring partner Sportradar and the Sports Betting Intelligence United at the Gambling Commission. King was then charged with "fixing the outcome of the Perry match", as well as his December 2022 game against John Higgins. He was also charged with "providing inside information on those matches that was used for betting."

In August 2024, the Rock and Roll Hall of Famers cancelled the remainder of their postponed 'Peace Out Farewell Tour' and officially called it quits after Steven Tyler suffered vocal cord damage. '[Tyler] has spent months tirelessly working on getting his voice to where it was before his injury,' the band shared via Instagram. 'We've seen him struggling despite having the best medical team by his side. Sadly, it is clear, that a full recovery from his vocal injury is not possible. We have made a heartbreaking and difficult, but necessary, decision – as a band of brothers – to retire from the touring stage.' Since that tough call was made, the classic rockers have stayed true to their word and haven't played a show in the last nine months. Still, that hasn't stopped guitarist Joe Perry. The legendary axeman recently announced his group, The Joe Perry Project, is embarking on an eight-concert tour this August. That includes a stop at Port Chester, NY's Capitol Theatre on Saturday, Aug. 23. At all shows, Perry, 74, will be joined by Aerosmith bandmates Brad Whitford and Buck Johnson, The Black Crowes' Chris Robinson and Stone Temple Pilots members Robert DeLeo and Eric Krentz. 'Well … it's time to let the music do the talkin' again,' Perry said in a statement. 'I'm really excited about the JPP line up this year…The set list is gonna include my fav JPP cuts, STP, Black Crowes, and with Brad we'll be hitting the Aero hits and some deep cuts and then ya never know!!!! Gonna be a BLAST, and if you've ever been to one of my shows you know the words 'GARAGE BAND on STEROIDS' come to mind! See you there!!!!' The ten-track record — which features classic rock stalwarts like Cheap Trick's Robin Zander, Extreme's Gary Cherone and New York Dolls' David Johansen on vocals — is a high-octane blast of good, old-fashioned barroom rock and roll. Highlights here include the propulsive, bluesy 'Fortunate One' (with Chris Robinson on vocals), the epic anthem 'Quake' and ferocious yet twinkly 'Aye Aye Aye' that sound like they could have been recorded at the height of Perry's heyday. Don't skip out early either. The last track 'Won't Let Me Go' is a hard-charging closer that'll rev you up one last time. Want to give the record a spin? You can find 'Sweetzerland Manifesto MKII' here (also, Perry's gutsy 2018 'Sweetzerland Manifesto' ain't half bad either if you want to dig deeper). The Joe Perry Project origin Perry launched his side group The Joe Perry Project — he's also in The Hollywood Vampires with Alice Cooper and Johnny Depp too (!) — way back in 1979 after he took a break from performing with Aerosmith. If you're looking to familiarize yourself with their catalog, we recommend starting here. The Joe Perry Project band members On the road, Perry will be joined by five seasoned rockers. Rock legend to make shock guest appearance at Ozzy Osbourne's final show months after retiring due to vocal cord injury

Ellie Henman, Bizarre Editor Published: Invalid Date, AEROSMITH were forced to retire early last year after frontman Steven Tyler suffered a serious vocal cord injury. The US rockers had to pull the plug on their 2023 Peace Out: The Farewell Tour and said at the time that the decision was 'devastating'. 8 8 But Steven has been working hard on getting himself back to his best, and I've learned he is now gearing up to appear as a special guest at Ozzy Osbourne 's final Black Sabbath show, at Birmingham's Villa Park on July 5. A source said: 'Steven's injury was so bad and it has been a long road to recovery. 'He still loves performing live and has sung at a couple of charity events after they cancelled the tour. 'Playing at Ozzy's Back To The Beginning show was an offer he couldn't turn down and he will be on the line-up this summer. 'They are hoping Aerosmith guitarist] Joe Perry might be joining him too, but the final details are still being ironed out.' The line-up for Ozzy's farewell show, which will see the original Sabbath line-up reunite to perform, is out of this world for rock fans like myself. From Metallica, Slayer, Anthrax, Tool and Van Halen to Pantera, Guns N' Roses, Limp Bizkit, Smashing Pumpkins and Megadeth, the streets around Villa Park are going to be shaking when the concert kicks off. Rage Against The Machine's Tom Morello is in place as the musical director and teased there may be even more big names to come, saying: 'There's some pretty great surprises that are not posted anywhere.' The show is being billed as 'the greatest day in the history of heavy metal' and I'd be lying if I said I wasn't counting down the days. Ozzy, who has been plagued with ill health in recent years, is currently in training to prepare for the concert, where he will perform a selection of tracks with Black Sabbath. Ozzy Osbourne fights back tears as he thanks wife Sharon for 'saving his life' in appearance at Rock N Roll Hall of Fame He said last week: 'I've got a guy living at my house who's working with me. 'It's tough — I've been laid up for such a long time. 'I've been lying on my back doing nothing, and the first thing to go is your strength. 'It's like starting all over again. 'I've got a vocal coach coming round four days a week to keep my voice going. 'I'm used to doing two hours on stage, jumping and running around. 'I don't think I'll be doing much jumping or running around this time. 'I may be sitting down, but I'll be there, and I'll do the best I can.' AMANDA TURNS UP THE CHEAT 8 SHE is already one of the biggest stars on British TV, and now Amanda Holden is a Netflix hit, too. She posed in racy golden underwear as it was revealed her new reality show, Cheat: Unfinished Business, has entered the top ten on the streaming service in 22 countries, including the UK and the US. In the show, Amanda and relationships expert Paul C Burnson help eight cheaters reconnect with their exes. It's been so successful since it launched just over a week ago that a second series is already in the pipeline. Celebrity spin-offs can be tedious, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed for an especially juicy star-studded version. MILEY SNAKES THINGS UP 8 I STRUGGLE to find one nice outfit for a night out, but Miley Cyrus managed to wear four at a single bash. She was in full promo mode at a Spotify fan event on Tuesday evening to celebrate her album Something Beautiful, which is out in three weeks. And she revealed another fashionista will sing on the record, confirming Naomi Campbell 's vocals will be on the album, after I told how the supermodel would feature in the star's visuals for the project. And just as with Naomi's usual look, Miley was dressed to impress, wearing a leather jacket and miniskirt to arrive, before changing into a strapless snakeskin dress for a Q&A on stage. Later she wore a black minidress with golden polka dots, before leaving in a quirky tux with a tummy-baring white shirt, below. During the event, Miley let slip that Alabama Shakes singer Brittany Howard also features on the album, and teased that the second single, More To Lose, will be out tomorrow. On what to expect from the record, she joked: 'It's not only my best album, but my gayest.' ECK' OF A SUMMER 8 THEY'VE got a bright future ahead and now my favourite rising stars Ecko have kicked off a summer of shows across the UK. The Scottish band, who I first championed after hearing their cool track Let Go back in February, played DJ Ewan McVicar's Pavilion Festival in Ayr over the weekend before heading down to their first show in London at The Elephant's Head in Camden. And they absolutely nailed both shows – the crowds giving frontman Jamie Warden, guitarist Matthew Welsh, drummer Jonny Armstrong and bassist Liam O'Connor rave receptions. At Pavilion, where Ecko played alongside acts including DJ Annie Mac and Happy Mondays, Ewan opened up about the importance of giving up-and-coming bands and singers the opportunity to play on bigger stages, as well as ensuring tickets are not allowed to become unaffordable. He said: 'Working-class people getting priced out of things is getting worse and worse. 'I know what it is like to be skint – about five years ago I was living off my overdraft.' He added: 'Look at the Brit Awards – nearly all the winners were privately educated apart from Sam Fender. 'I feel quite alienated at these events where you'll ask someone how they got into there to perform and they'll say it's because their dad did this and that. 'I worked my buns off to get where I am.' Getting behind grassroots artists is more important than ever and Bizarre will keep banging that drum. SYDNIE'S SWEET VE SALUTE SYDNIE CHRISTMAS is on a mission to help younger generations learn about the importance of remembering the fallen. The BGT winner has released a cover of Dame Vera Lynn classic We'll Meet Again for VE Day. Sydnie told us: 'I wanted to show my respect. 'I had family in the war like a lot of us did. 'I wanted to do Vera Lynn proud. 'Ideally I want the young people of today to go back to her version.' She continued: 'I don't think a lot of kids of today know the importance of it. 'My great grandad fought in the war and didn't meet my nan until she was five years old and the war had finished. 'Also my great-uncles fought too, but died on the beaches in France.' JESSIE'S UP FOR BAFTA TOM GRENNAN and Jessie J have both signed up to entertain the nation with performances at the Bafta Television Awards on Sunday. The glitzy ceremony will air live on BBC One from 7pm, with Jessie giving her first TV performance in six years, singing an unreleased song, aptly titled The Award Goes To. She said: 'I haven't sung on British television in years. 'What a way to come back – it's an honour. 'But who will the award go to? That's the question.' Meanwhile, Tom will give a telly exclusive with the first performance of his new single Full Attention, which is being released tomorrow. READY TO STAR IN LOVE ISLA 8 8 ISLA FISHER is single and ready to mingle, according to my pals who spotted her working the room at a party held before Sir David Attenborough 's Ocean film premiere in London. She began her night posing with Cara and Poppy Delevigne, as well as Georgia May Jagger at Gloobles' pre-Ocean premiere drinks at Notting Hill pub The Pelican, before attending the premiere and cosying up to Stephen Fitzpatrick, the owner of Kensington Roof Gardens. My onlooker said: 'Isla was sitting next to Stephen throughout the film and they seemed to be very flirty. 'They got on like a house on fire and it was the talk of the night.' It's either love . . . or she wants the best seats in the Roof Gardens next time she visits. No one has seen as much of the world as Sir David. THE Mercury Prize is leaving London for the first time in its 33-year history and will be held in Newcastle in October. The award, celebrating the best British album of the past 12 months and previously won by Pulp and Arctic Monkeys, will be presented at the Utilita Arena on October 16, with tickets on sale now.

Aerosmith fans are only just learning the true meaning behind the band's iconic name

Aerosmith fans are only now just learning what the band's name really means despite them forming over five decades ago. The band – consisting of lead vocalist Steven Tyler, bassist Tom Hamilton, drummer Joey Kramer, and guitarists Joe Perry and Brad Whitford – began making music in the early 1970s. Together they developed a sound which is mostly rooted in blues-based hard rock with influences of pop rock, heavy metal, glam metal, and rhythm and blues. While they've had mega hits throughout the years, including Sweet Emotion, Dream On, and Walk This Way, the group's name has left many fans stumped. Unsurprisingly, there has been much speculation over Aerosmith's name over the decades. Writing on Quora, one fan claimed: 'Joey Kramer, the drummer came up with it, used to doodle the name over and over in his high school notebook. 'Anyway, the rest of the guys in the band liked the name and spelling and the rest is history, America's best rock band was born…' A conflicting theory suggested that the name Joe and Brad's idea. 'Aerosmith's name has an interesting origin,' another fan said. 'The band's lead guitarist, Joe Perry, and rhythm guitarist, Brad Whitford, came up with the name in the early 1970s. 'It is said that they combined the word "aero," which suggests a sense of airiness or flight, with "smith," a suffix that implies craftsmanship or creation.' But it was the band's cofounder and drummer Joey Kramer, co-founder who coined the group's name. According to his 2009 memoir, Hit Hard: A Story of Hitting Rock Bottom at the Top, he was drawn to the name in 1968. 'I was listening to an album at the time, by Harry Nilsson, called Aerial Ballet,' he said. 'We were listening to this record and I started really getting off on the lyrics. 'We started kicking around this word "aerial," and "aerial" eventually came into "aero" – I don't know how that happened. And it was like Aeromind, Aerostar, Aero-this, Aero-that. And somebody said "smith" — Aerosmith? Wow! 'And from then on it was all over my high school psychology books and my math books. The question was always, "What's Aerosmith?" 'And I would tell people: "When I leave high school I'm going to go have a rock 'n' roll band, and that's what it's going to be called. And we're going to be big and famous, and that's the scoop." And they were all like, "Oh, that's very nice, Joey." Last year, Aerosmith announced their retirement from touring after 54 years, citing lead singer Steven's incurable vocals as the reason behind the tough decision. The singer sustained vocal cord damage during their farewell tour in 2023. In a statement written in all capitals, they said: 'IT WAS 1970 WHEN A SPARK OF INSPIRATION BECAME AEROSMITH. 'THANKS TO YOU, OUR BLUE ARMY, THAT SPARK CAUGHT FLAME AND HAS BEEN BURNING FOR OVER FIVE DECADES. SOME OF YOU HAVE BEEN WITH US SINCE THE BEGINNING AND ALL OF YOU ARE THE REASON WE MADE ROCK 'N' ROLL HISTORY.' Aerosmith formed in Boston in 1970 and had been touring for over five decades as they have had dozens of hits in the process leading to four Grammy Awards and a Rock 'N Roll Hall of Fame induction in 2001. The band - known as 'the Bad Boys from Boston' - also broke boundaries intersecting rock and hip-hop with their epic collaboration with Run-DMC for Walk This Way. The statement continued: 'IT HAS BEEN THE HONOR OF OUR LIVES TO HAVE OUR MUSIC BECOME PART OF YOURS. IN EVERY CLUB, ON EVERY MASSIVE TOUR AND AT MOMENTS GRAND AND PRIVATE YOU HAVE GIVEN US A PLACE IN THE SOUNDTRACK OF YOUR LIVES. In 2023, the iconic rock band had been forced to postpone the tour dates on their farewell tour - called Peace Out: The Farewell Tour - after the frontman had sustained a vocal cord injury. The statement to their fans continued: 'WE'VE ALWAYS WANTED TO BLOW YOUR MIND WHEN PERFORMING. AS YOU KNOW, STEVEN'S VOICE IS AN INSTRUMENT LIKE NO OTHER. HE HAS SPENT MONTHS TIRELESSLY WORKING ON GETTING HIS VOICE TO WHERE IT WAS BEFORE HIS INJURY. WE'VE SEEN HIM STRUGGLING DESPITE HAVING THE BEST MEDICAL TEAM BY HIS SIDE. 'SADLY, IT IS CLEAR, THAT A FULL RECOVERY FROM HIS VOCAL INJURY IS NOT POSSIBLE. WE HAVE MADE A HEARTBREAKING AND DIFFICULT, BUT NECESSARY, DECISION - AS A BAND OF BROTHERS- TO RETIRE FROM THE TOURING STAGE.' They concluded their sincere message to their millions of fans by expressing their gratitude to them and everyone else who helped contributing to making them one of the most iconic acts in Rock 'n Roll history. The statement concluded: 'WE ARE GRATEFUL BEYOND WORDS FOR EVERYONE WHO WAS PUMPED TO GET ON THE ROAD WITH US ONE LAST TIME. GRATEFUL TO OUR EXPERT CREW, OUR INCREDIBLE TEAM AND THE THOUSANDS OF TALENTED PEOPLE WHO'VE MADE OUR HISTORIC RUNS POSSIBLE.

Aerosmith fans are just realising what iconic band's name means after 55 years

Aerosmith, the American rock band that's been making waves in the music industry since 1970, hails from Boston and boasts a lineup of music icons - lead singer Steven Tyler, bassist Tom Hamilton, drummer Joey Kramer and guitarists Joe Perry and Brad Whitford. These rock legends have created a sound that's all their own, mixing blues-based hard rock with pop rock, heavy metal, glam metal and rhythm and blues. It's no wonder they've inspired countless musicians with their distinctive style. While hits like "Dream On", "Walk This Way" and "I Don't Want To Miss A Thing" are well-known, many fans might not know the story behind the band's name. Curiosity about Aerosmith's name sparked discussions on Quora, where fans speculated about its origins. The truth behind the name is quite intriguing. When asked what the band's name means, one response read: "Aerosmith's name has an interesting origin. The band's lead guitarist, Joe Perry, and rhythm guitarist, Brad Whitford, came up with the name in the early 1970s. "It is said that they combined the word 'aero', which suggests a sense of airiness or flight, with 'smith', a suffix that implies craftsmanship or creation. Additionally, the name was inspired by the band's earlier name, 'Joe Perry's Aerosmith', which referenced Perry's last name. "Over time, they shortened it to just Aerosmith. The name reflects the band's rock and roll spirit and has become iconic in the music industry." Steven Tyler of Aerosmith performs during the 62nd Annual Grammy Awards (Image: AFP via Getty Images) Another person added: "Joey Kramer came up with it while doodling on a book cover as I recall. Other members invoked the name of the book 'Arrowsmith', and he said: 'no - AERO'. "The rest approved and the name was adopted for the fledgling band. The seminal Aerosmith 'wings' logo was a direct homage to the old 'Flying A' gas station signs. It of course evolved (in time) well past that humble beginning." A third also suggested: "Joey Kramer, the drummer came up with it, used to doodle the name over and over in his high school notebook, and not that awful boring book Arrowsmith. Anyway, the rest of the guys in the band liked the name and spelling and the rest is history - America's best rock band was born." Notwithstanding the mix of stories, there seems to be an authentic one among them. Joey Kramer, the co-founder and drummer of Aerosmith, is credited with naming the band. The band have had a number of big hits (Image:for Janie's Fund) In his 2009 memoir Hit Hard: A Story of Hitting Rock Bottom at the Top, and during a chat with Ultimate Classic Rock Nights in 2019 , he shared that the inspiration for the band's name came to him back in 1968. This stroke of creativity occurred two years before Aerosmith was formed when Kramer was still a high-schooler, and he cites a Harry Nilsson album as the source of inspiration. Reflecting on the past, he reminisced: "I was listening to an album at the time, by Harry Nilsson, called Aerial Ballet. We were listening to this record and I started really getting off on the lyrics. "We started kicking around this word 'aerial,' and 'aerial' eventually came into 'aero' – I don't know how that happened. And it was like Aeromind, Aerostar, Aero-this, Aero-that; and somebody said 'smith'-Aerosmith? Wow! "And from then on it was all over my high school psychology books and my math books. The question was always, 'What's Aerosmith?' And I would tell people: 'When I leave high school I'm going to go have a rock 'n' roll band, and that's what it's going to be called. And we're going to be big and famous, and that's the scoop.' And they were all like, 'Oh, that's very nice, Joey.'"
