Panthers' 1st-round pick in the 2025 NFL draft may be down to these 3 prospects

Panthers' 1st-round pick in the 2025 NFL draft may be down to these 3 prospects Could the Carolina Panthers' top pick of the 2025 NFL draft be down to just three particular players? A little over four hours before the start of tonight's first round, Joe Person of The Athletic offered a bit of late intel about the team's possible direction with the eighth overall selection. As expected, they're likely to zero in on the defensive side of the ball—but an offensive skill player might be in the running. Here's what Person posted to Twitter/X on Thursday afternoon: University of Georgia linebacker Jalon Walker, as noted by Person, has been the presumed favorite for the selection. The Salisbury, N.C. native and 2024 Butkus Award winner could serve as a versatile chess piece for a historically-bad defense that needs both leadership and pass-rushing prowess. Something similar can be said for University of Michigan defensive lineman Mason Graham, who can help patch up the Panthers' problems against the run. Despite Carolina's free-agent additions to the trench from earlier in the offseason, the All-American and national champion wrecking ball could form quite a duo with Pro Bowler Derrick Brown. Then you have University of Arizona wide receiver Tetairoa McMillan, one of the most polarizing prospects in recent weeks. Will general manager Dan Morgan and company add to quarterback Bryce Young's arsenal of weapons with the talented 6-foot-4 pass catcher? We'll soon find out! Panthers announce major update on their upcoming training camp

Panthers announce major update on their upcoming training camp The Carolina Panthers will be wearing their hard hats this summer . . . and the next. As announced on Wednesday, fans will not be permitted to attend the team's training camp practices for both the 2025 and 2026 seasons due to construction at their practice fields. The team released the following statement on the matter this morning: Due to ongoing construction at the Carolina Panthers practice fields, the team is unable to host fans onsite throughout the 2025 and 2026 Carolina Panthers Training Camps. The Panthers will host fans during Fan Fest at Bank of America Stadium on Saturday, August 2, 2025. Per Joe Person of The Athletic, the construction relates to the Panthers' new indoor practice facility—which will be completed in phases to maximize field space for the team. Person also noted that the organization did not consider returning to Wofford College, the site of their training camps from 1995 to 2023, for their upcoming sessions. The Panthers, starting in 2024, moved their training camp to the practice fields across from Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, N.C. Report: Panthers 'open' to trading down in 1st round of 2025 NFL draft

Report: Panthers 'open' to trading down in 1st round of 2025 NFL draft The Carolina Panthers may be all ears during the first night of the 2025 NFL draft. In a new article from Monday, Joe Person of The Athletic examined the possibility, and precedent, of a first-round trade-down for the Panthers. And before diving into some potential scenarios, he noted the following about Carolina—who could use a division rival's need for a new quarterback to their advantage: First, any other team targeting [Shedeur] Sanders (or another quarterback) could look to move in front of the [New Orleans] Saints by trading with the Panthers, who are open to the idea of moving back depending on what happens in front of them in the draft, according to league sources. On Friday, we learned that Saints starting quarterback Derek Carr is dealing with a significant shoulder injury. According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, the 34-year-old veteran may also opt for surgery, which would likely sideline him for at least a portion of the upcoming campaign. New Orleans is currently positioned in the ninth overall slot of the draft, which has them sitting right behind Carolina and the eighth overall pick. So, yeah, the Panthers might be in the sweet spot for another passer-needy team looking to cut off the Saints. President of football operations and general manager Dan Morgan, in fact, has already stated earlier this offseason that he wouldn't rule out a trade off that No. 8 selection. "I don't see us trading up. I do see the potential of us trading back and picking up more picks," Morgan said on WFNZ's Mac & Bone back in late February. "That's always a possibility. But we're gonna play all the different scenarios and we're gonna be ready when the time comes." Well, that time could come next Thursday night. Panthers beat reporter believes team is eyeing these 2 draft prospects . . .

Panthers beat reporter believes team is eyeing these 2 draft prospects . . . The Carolina Panthers seem fully intent on building up their defense this offseason. Joe Person of The Athletic has offered up quite a few new nuggets regarding the team following their trip to the 2025 NFL Scouting Combine. And as far as the early favorites for their first-round pick go, Person thinks the Panthers could be eyeing a pair of top defenders—including University of Georgia linebacker Jalon Walker . . . With pro days and top-30 visits still to come, I left Indy still thinking the Panthers would love to see Michigan defensive tackle Mason Graham fall to 8. But they also seem to like Walker a lot. Graham, perhaps the second-best defensive prospect in this year's class, may be a pipe dream for Carolina with the eighth overall pick. Although president of football operations/general manager Dan Morgan would probably love to have the 296-pound wrecking ball help fortify a weak front, the 2023 national champion and 2024 unanimous All-American is likely to be selected before the Panthers hit the clock. Walker, another national champ and All-American, feels like a more realistic option. The Salisbury, N.C. native, who played a bit of off-ball linebacker in Georgia, could line up primarily as a edge rusher at the pro level. But however the board eventually unfolds, the Panthers might be lucky to have either after allowing the most points ever in a single season (534).
