Love Island boss reveals HUGE ‘never seen before' week one twist in show – but rules out Joey Essex-style shock
LOVE Island boss Mike Spencer-Hayter has revealed this year's series will launch with a major twist in the first week. And it's something he says has 'never been done before' on the show, anywhere in the world. Ruling out a repeat of a big-name entrance - following Joey Essex 's shock signing last year - creative director Mike said viewers can still expect something dramatic. He told The Sun: "Something big is coming in week one. We've got a really big week one planned. It's hard to say what we're doing without saying it. "It's not a celebrity. We've not seen it before.' Mike added that changes will be noticeable from the very start of the series. He said: 'There will be things happening for the first couple of days we've not done before and certainly in week one. During that week, there's something incredibly big we've never done before. 'Hopefully we can do it. It's quite experimental. I just think you can't rest on your laurels, being like, 'This is really popular.' 'We have to keep it exciting and tear up the rule book a bit.' Mike also revealed that producers have broken with tradition by planning further ahead than usual. He said: 'We've mapped out two weeks, which we don't usually do, to be honest. So we've got two weeks planned and one very, very big thing that's never been done ever on Love Island. Globally.' Mike recalled telling ITV 's head of media relations about the twist, teasing: 'I told Justin what we're doing, and I never usually tell people, and you were like, 'What the f**k?' You were very excited.' Second new Love Island hunk questioned by cops after being accused of stealing woman's phone during night out In keeping with Love Island tradition, 2025's summer edition starts on ITV2 the week after the Late May Bank Holiday. Maya Jama will be welcoming a cast of contestants looking for love into the famous villa at 9pm on Monday, June 9. The TV presenter called for even more 'twists and turns' in the trailer for Love Island 2025. She said: "This year Love Island needs something bigger, something bolder, I want ideas. "This year I want more drama, more bombshells, more break-ups, more makeups. "I want more twists, I want more twists than ever." Maya flew out to Mallorca on May 26, 2025, sharing a snap of six suitcases and three bags with her followers before heading to the airport. Once she had landed, Maya shared videos of herself dancing on Instagram along with the caption: 'On holiday until I start Love Island.' Spilling the beans on what she's already uncovered about the latest series of Love Island, Maya also told her TikTok followers: "Do I even know who the Islanders are? "Do I know what time and date I'm flying to Mallorca? No, but guess what? "We are so back. We are so f***ing back. I'm really excited, guys. The sun is out!" She added: "Summer Love Island 's about to happen. "They released a little advert. It ain't even the real advert yet. I can smell it in the air. "A bunch of new cuties are about to enter that villa. Your 9pm's will be gone. You will be locked in!" 4 4 4

Instead Islanders can nip inside for a civilised cocktail or cosy chat with one rule - they cannot be in an official couple to use the space, like last year. The Hideaway has seen raunchy scenes as recently as summer 2024, when Joey Essex and Jessy Potts had the champagne bucket rocking with their nighttime action. Executive producer Mike Spencer-Hayter said: 'It's about keeping the show fresh and exciting. 'I personally don't want to see 'ooh, let's open a cupboard and get something out.' 'I think we've seen it time and time again. I think we've got to move on. 'I don't want this show to feel static. This show has to feel fresh. 'I think as producers we need to keep ahead of the curve because we are the number one dating show in the world. The stats speak for themselves but we can't rely on that. 'We've got a push forward. Elsewhere there's been another huge loss - the iconic garden beanbags. Instead of the 'cursed' yellow sacks, a series of chic, beige wooden seats are in place. The pool has also had an upmarket overhaul with a Bali-style hammock added near the outdoor shower. And another new aspect is a huge dining table has been added to the kitchen because for the first time, conversations as Islanders eat their lunch and dinner could be screened. Mike said: 'We just thought, why not, let's just keep those chats. 'It will still probably feel a bit off camera, but it feels like in this day and age, show it. 'Sometimes, it feels like, why isn't it on camera? There's always lots of whispering and obviously sometimes it will affect show action, like how do they know that? 'The viewer hasn't seen that, now they will see it.' There's also some impressive new changes made to make this villa the most sustainable ever. The entire site now runs on solar power. And there's also a watt bike in place so the Islanders can pedal to charge up their Google Pixel mobile phones. The changes come after Mike laid down the gauntlet to the whole production team to ensure the series was the best yet to mark the tenth anniversary. Mike said: 'When we sat down at the start of the year we were having a discussion about how to do Love Island this year. And with every single aspect of this show, let's look at it, let's see how we can improve it and let's see how we can make it more exciting for the viewers. 'Because it's a big commitment - 57 shows through the summer. 'You need people to tune in every night, get invested and follow the love stories. 'So I think we did set the challenge to every department - how do we make this better?' Mike reckons they've got a fun cast this year too - with a huge number ready to roll through the doors. He added: 'I think we'll be putting more bombshells in than before - we did 54 one year. 'I feel like it reminds me of Love Island in the early days. Personality is key. 'I think we're going to see real love. 'They're a good group and a good mix, but great bombshells as well.' Joey Essex puts £2.2million Essex mansion up for rent for £10,000 a month as he leaves the UK to chase boxing dream
Joey Essex has put his £2.2m Essex mansion up for rent for a whopping £10,000 a month after deciding to leave the UK for a year to train as a boxer. The reality star, 34, has signed himself up to undergo intensive training at gyms in Los Angeles and Dubai. He is reportedly getting in shape to tackle some of the biggest names in boxing, including KSI, Jake Paul and YouTuber Deji Olatunji. The five-bedroom spacious mansion is in a gated property with its own swimming pool, hot tub, and bar area and has been praised by estate agent Durden & Hunt for its desirable location. It is described as being 'the epitome of modern luxury living' and comes complete with a large, sprawling garden with its own mini tennis court. Inside, the bedrooms are spacious, as is the kitchen and living area, and there is even a pool room, making the mansion perfect for entertaining. From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the DailyMail's new Showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. Joey, while known for reality TV, is connected to the world of boxing through his uncle, who is British trainer Tony Sims. He is being supported with his boxing dreams by Misfits Boxing, whose co-founder, Mams Taylor, said he has got the commitment needed to succeed in the ring. Mams said said: 'Joey's got family background in boxing so I think he's excited to get in the ring and we're excited to have him. 'Joey's going to be very committed, we've spoken daily for the last few days and he's really on it.' MissFits was launched in 2022 by YouTuber KSI and boxing promoter Mams. Mams perviously SunSport that Joey needs to take his training seriously but said he is 'not someone who's gonna do this half-a****'. He added: 'I'm very confident we'll see Joey Essex in a Misfits ring, very soon. 'Sooner rather than later.' Joey's decision to take a break from the UK comes after his Baby Reindeer-style stalker was deemed 'unfit to stand trial'. The obsessed online fan allegedly bombarded the reality star, 34, with 100,000 messages, including some which contained apparent death threats towards his then girlfriend Jessy Potts, whom he met during 2024's Love Island. But according to The Sun, police have now agreed criminal prosecution would not be the most appropriate course of action, with Joey instead being protected through safeguarding interventions. MailOnline have contacted Joey's representatives for comment regarding the news. The former TOWIE star, who split from Jessy in September just seven weeks after leaving the ITV villa, contacted Cheshire Police in August of last year after becoming concerned about the violent nature of some of the sinister messages. He told The Sun at the time: 'I love my fans and want to be able to talk to them online but there has to be a line somewhere and sadly this is it.'
