Jakob Breum decision raises Celtic eyebrows amid transfer interest as striker target hopes look wrecked

The champions saw a bid for the Danish star turfed out last month Celtic transfer target Jakob Breum has been left out of the squad for Go Ahead Eagles' Eredivisie opener against Fortuna Sittard. ‌ The Danish winger was the subject of a £1.5million bid from Brendan Rodgers ' side earlier this summer that was quickly rejected by the Dutch outfit who have stated that they won't sell the player for any less than £5million. ‌ Record Sport has learned that the Dutch outfit are standing firm on their valuation of the player because 25 per cent of his next transfer fee will be awarded to Breum's former club Odense, having inserted a sell-on clause into the Dane's switch to the Netherlands two years ago. ‌ Breum started in last weekend's 2-1 defeat to PSV Eindhoven in the Johan Cruyff Shield but will not be a part of the travelling party to face Fortuna away from home on Friday night. However, De Stentor report that the player's absence is not related to his future and that Breum has missed out after picking up a knock against PSV. The player himself recently hinted that he could move on from Go Ahead before the window slams shut on September 1. Speaking to ESPN, he said: "Time will tell. "There's still one month left, but as long as I'm here, I'll do my best. It's a boring answer, but that's the way it is. Now that important players have left, other players have to step up." Meanwhile, Napoli forward Giuseppe Ambrosino is reportedly closing in on a loan move to Serie A newboys Cremonese. ‌ The 21-year-old had emerged as a potential target for the Hoops after catching the eye for Italy at the U21 European Championships. Ambrosino is expected to be moved on by Antonio Conte's team and Corriere del Mezzogiorno (via claim that Napoli will meet with Cremonese officials today in order to thrash out a loan deal with an option to buy. ‌ You can get all the news you need on our dedicated Celtic pages and sign up to our newsletters to make sure you never miss a beat throughout the season. here.

PSV Eindhoven beats underdog Go Ahead Eagles to win Johan Cruyff Shield

Dutch champion PSV Eindhoven came from behind to defeat cup winner Go Ahead Eagles 2-1 on Sunday to take the Johan Cruyff Shield, the country's Super Cup. American fullback Sergino Dest scored the winning goal in the 84th minute, securing the third trophy under former Borussia Dortmund manager Peter Bosz. Go Ahead scripted one of the biggest underdog stories in Europe last season, winning the KNVB Cup — its first major trophy in 92 years — beating AZ Alkmaar 4-2 on penalties. In the Super Cup final, it took the lead in the 35th minute when Mathis Suray turned home a low cross from left-back Dean James. It looked on course to continue the dream run when Eagles defender Gerrit Nauber's own goal restored parity in the second half. Dest then found the net, six minutes from time, to start the 2025-26 season on a high. Eindhoven is the defending Dutch Premier Division champion and is looking to secure a hat-trick of league titles, something it has not achieved since 2008. (with inputs from Reuters)
