Man arrested in Limpopo days after brutal murder of Gauteng woman A 36-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the brutal murder of a missing woman from Eersterust, east of Pretoria city centre. According to Pretoria Rekord, the woman's body was discovered on Thursday, partially buried in an open field, just weeks after she was reported missing. Gauteng police spokesperson Captain Johan van Dyk says a dedicated five-member investigation team was established to pursue the case. 'The team immediately began following leads and gathering crucial information to piece together the events surrounding the murder.' At least 60 Aarto infringement notices were issued, amounting to R30,000 and one vehicle being discontinued due to non-compliance with the Road Traffic Act,' Van Dyk said. He added that police conducted targeted patrols and searches at 25 identified crime hotspots, disrupting criminal activity. The operation resulted in the arrest of nine people for public drinking and two individuals for dealing and possessing drugs, with 417 ziplock bags of various drugs and an undisclosed amount of cash seized. Additionally, authorities inspected 32 liquor outlets, closing 11 for non-compliance and seizing liquor and two gambling machines. Tshwane district Commissioner Major-General Samuel Thine thanked all stakeholders for their support and collaboration, assuring the public that similar operations will continue across the district.

Father dead, mother critical after domestic shooting in Pretoria's Elardus Park

A mother is fighting for her life and a father is dead after a domestic dispute turned violent in the early hours this morning at their Elardus Park, Pretoria, home. Pretoria Rekord reports that their teenage daughter, who was asleep during the shooting, is now in the care of trauma counsellors. According to police spokesperson Captain Johan van Dyk, the shooting happened at approximately 03:30 this morning. 'Members of the Lyttelton SAPS responded to a report of a shooting incident at a residence in Rietvalleirand, Elardus Park. 'Upon arrival at the scene, members were met by security and emergency medical personnel, who confirmed that a woman had sustained four gunshot wounds to the upper body. 'She was stabilised on the scene and airlifted to a nearby hospital for urgent medical treatment.' Van Dyk says preliminary investigations revealed the body of a man, who was found deceased at the scene with a visible gunshot wound to the head. 'A 9mm pistol was recovered next to his body, along with several live rounds and spent cartridges believed to have been discharged from the same firearm.' Medical officials declared the man dead at the scene. The couple's daughter had been placed in the care of trauma counsellors, as there is currently no immediate family available in Pretoria, says Van Dyk. He adds that the daughter said that her mother had recently returned home late after attending a work-related training session. 'It is believed that this led to an argument between the victim and the suspect. The daughter reported that she later awoke to the sound of gunshots, but was unable to confirm the exact events that followed. 'Crime scene experts attended the scene and conducted a thorough investigation. The firearm was seized and will be sent for ballistic analysis as part of the ongoing investigation.' Police are investigating a case of attempted murder and have opened an inquest docket relating to the suspected suicide.
