Harsh reality finally catches up with Filipinos with borrowed names
SEREMBAN: Five Filipinos living with borrowed identities have been convicted, with prosecutors calling for a heavy sentence as the offence could compromise national security. In two Magistrate's Court here, the harsh reality of using fake Malaysian identity cards came crashing down for the five accused persons after they all pleaded guilty to the charges. They were jailed between two months and five months. Brothers Johari Camal, 38, and Peter Camal, 45, and Ajid Hasan, 43, were sentenced to five months in jail while Aisa Hamjalin Katang, 40, and Rasid Olek, 27, were jailed for two months. The five were charged separately before magistrates Nurul Saqinah Rosli and Saiful Sayoti. They admitted to committing the offence between 7pm and 9.30pm on May 6 in Nilai. The five were charged under Rule 25(1)(e) of the National Registration Department Regulations 1990, which carries a jail term of not more than three years or a fine of not more than RM20,000 or both, upon conviction. In mitigation, the five, who were unrepresented, asked the court for a lenient sentence as they have families to provide for. Prosecuting officers Zulkarnain Ahmad, Md Shahedan Md Taib and Hairul Azlin Ahmad, who represented the National Registration Department, asked the court to impose a heavy punishment because what the accused did could compromise national security. Another two accused, Alvin Faisal, 31, and a woman claiming to be his wife, Alsaida Hassan, 28, pleaded not guilty to the same offence. Lawyer Sarabmeet Singh told the court that his clients are Bajau from Sabah. The court allowed Alvin to be released on a RM6,000 bail with two local sureties. His wife was not offered bail. The court fixed June 11 for mention.

Foreigners charged with using fake MyKads jailed, two others plead not guilty
